Wenger – I WILL sign a defender before end of World Cup 16

Posted on June 18, 2010 by admin

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is commentating for a French TV station at the World Cup, but he insists that negotiations are ongoing and there will be a defensive signing before the tournament ends.

With William Gallas looking for a better contract elsewhere, and Phillipe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre out-of-contract too, and Sol Campbell seemingly decided to move to Celtic next year, I imagine that Wenger will be looking for more than one defender!

But when he was asked how his transfer dealings were going, he replied: “We are not close to signing anyone at the moment. We are quiet.

Exclusive David Seaman video – penalties and the World Cup! 2

Posted on June 11, 2010 by admin

The Arsenal and England legend David Seaman opened up Yahoo!’s World Cup summer of football by setting up some goalposts on the South Bank, and inviting fans to try their luck at getting one past him.

Here is an exclusive video, given to me by Yahoo, of a few people following in the footsteps of Ronaldinho, who famously scored against Seaman in the World Cup, and some snippets of conversation from the great man.

My favourite quote was the question about being stranded on a desert island with Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman would be the first to get eaten because he never stops talking about football!

Laporta – We WILL have Fabregas before the World Cup! 33

Posted on June 04, 2010 by admin

Just a few days ago, Arsenal clearly stated on their official website that they were not going to listen to any offers from Barcelona for Cesc Fabregas, but the Spanish giants seem to think that this was just a ploy in the negotiating process.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who has been in charge of negotiations since Fabregas was in the womb, has clearly stated that he fully expects Arsenal to cave in and let Fabregas go before the World Cup begins. He is alarmingly confident, but he is quite convincing.

Bendtner – I want to follow Fabregas to Spain 63

Posted on May 27, 2010 by admin

In a fantastic case of bad timing, the Arsenal and Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner has admitted in an interview that his greatest wish is to play for either Barcelona or Real Madrid in La Liga.

The great tug-of-war between Arsenal and Barcelona over Cesc Fabregas has already annoyed a hell of a lot of Gooners, and Bendtner’s statement at this time seems to be a bit of foot-in-mouth disease!

Clichy – I’d rather win the Premiership than the World Cup! 3

Posted on March 17, 2010 by admin

The Arsenal defender Gael Clichy thinks that winning the Premiership with Arsenal (currently 3/1 third favourites) is more important than winning the World Cup with France (around 14/1 in the World Cup 2010 betting). In an interview with Goal they asked Clichy outright which was the more important trophy to win this year.

He replied: “To choose it would be really difficult. The World Cup is the best competition ever but at the same time I know that if I’m a champion with Arsenal then I’ve got a good chance of going to the World Cup. So I’d say I’ll go for the Premier League.”

Walcott moves closer to World Cup as Beckham is ruled out for season 4

Posted on March 15, 2010 by admin

Last night the England winger David Beckham suffered a career-ending injury during AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Chievo in Serie A, and has just about ruled himself out of any chance of playing in the World Cup this summer.

There were no other players near Beckham when he pulled up with a torn Achilles tendon, and his manager and team-mates were devastated after the game.

The Milan coach Leonardo said: “Beckham’s injury makes us feel terrible.

“He is an extraordinary guy and today’s game proves it yet again.

“I cannot enjoy this evening considering this serious injury.

Wenger going to World Cup to find players, and is interested in the Koreans! 4

Posted on March 07, 2010 by admin

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been talking about why he loves to go to the World Cup, and says he will “look at every player he can find”, but he specifically said that he is intrigued by the form of Korean players, as Jung-Si Park has shown that they can adapt to the Premier League.

“I know that the Korean players in England are doing very well and of course it excites a little bit your curiosity,” Wenger said.

“The Korean players have done one important thing. There are very few Asian players who have made it in Europe and especially the Premier League but the Korean players look to adapt very well.”

Djourou – I’m working hard and I’ll come back stronger! 3

Posted on March 03, 2010 by admin

The Arsenal and Switzerland defender Johan Djourou has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury while on international duty last August, but feels that his recovery is going well and he could be back in training in as little as six weeks time.

“The injury is coming along very well,” Djourou said. “I’m very happy to actually maybe see the end of the tunnel now because it has been a rough route, it has been very hard with ups and downs. But I am working hard to get back on the field. Hopefully in a month and a half I will be back training.

Kieran Gibbs out for rest of season – no chance of World Cup place 1

Posted on January 21, 2010 by admin

The young Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs was hopeful of getting a long run in the team when Gael Clichy got injured, but he was immediately struck down with a broken metatarsal in the Champions League game against Standard Liege.

It was first thought that he would miss a couple of months, which would still have given him time to try and persuade Fabio Capello to take him to the World Cup next summer, but it has now been revealed that he needs immediate surgery, and will not play again this season.

Walcott – My World Cup experience helped my career 1

Posted on December 19, 2009 by admin

The Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has been reminiscing about his incredible experience of being picked for the England squad for the 2006 World Cup.He says that he didn’t really expect to play, but as time went on he felt more and more frustrated: “Looking back to 2006, things did come around very quickly for me. The move to Arsenal then playing in the World Cup.” he said.

“It did create a lot of pressure. It was so surreal being there at THE World Cup with some great players who had been playing for years in the Premier League and there I was, not having even played a game.
