The Arsenal Board needs to be more honest with the fans and move with the times

Is The Board To Blame? By Lorenzo Sallows

Growing concerns are manifesting themselves amongst us Gunners and these are stemming from the lack of communication we are receiving from the Arsenal Board. We pay premium prices for our season tickets, we pack pubs and bars to catch a glimpse of the team we adore, we shoulder countless criticism yet still we wear our red jerseys with pride so why does the Arsenal board insist on shutting us out?

Communication is key, between a club and fans; however we simply are not receiving any. We are entitled to know roughly how much transfer kitty there is, which targets both board and manager believe to be targeting. I am here to dispel growing rumours and quest for the truth of this matter.

Lack of clear communication results in rumours and speculation. In turn this leads to frenzy and accusations. This is fundamentally the current climate as keeping us in the dark is ridiculous. The Arsenal board are not villains but their lack of transparency leads people to believe they are. It is never as 2-D as the board is the reason we do not sign players. It cannot be that simple as Arsene Wegner would not stand for such a regime. Nothing is as black and white and this is why we NEED clarification, so as to avoid frustration.

Some people attribute, wrongly, the lack of transfers as a sign that the Board has no ambitions. I do not intend to defend the Board, as they indeed have a lot of work to do, but everyone working for Arsenal strives to achieve the same objective of distinction, even though some members of the Board prefer mathematics to football. It is essential that Arsenal maintains healthy revenue so as to maintain the “business” element of the organization but this cannot impede with the football we play. I am not asking for mindless, Manchester spending but a balance has to be found.

If Arsenal won, week in and week out, home and away, then there would be no problem. This is not the case, as it is we seem to lose inexplicably to small, ordinary teams and this raises questions. First the manager is attacked, either for lack of transfers or fielding a bad formation, but once this red mist clears and it is evident Arsene is not to blame, then the logical progression of attack is towards a higher power, i.e. the Board as there is no higher authority.

Therefore, the Board need to respond. THIS IS WHAT THEY NEED TO DO. Much like in Tottenham’s Board, they need a powerful chairman like Levy who has the power to stop players leaving, by having courage in his convictions. They need a more constructive PR team who can communicate facts, other than figures to us, the supporters, and the people who really matter. The wage structure needs to be altered so that there are CLEAR categories. A world class band that supports wages in excess of 100K, a middle of the road category, a basic salary and a youngster pay scheme. The Board of Arsenal needs to take a leaf out of Newcastle’s book. Newcastle’s Board fully commit to purchases such as Cisse and are right behind Alan Pardew, providing satisfaction to their fans. Furthermore, every season Newcastle are accused of selling their best players yet every year they buy more talent to replace them and so continue to thrive in form. Our Board seems disjointed with Arsene and so a more fruitful relationship needs to be established and we need to actively invest in the football of Arsenal, not just the accounts!

It is easy to say “sack the whole Board” but that would not provide the key to salvation. Instead let us praise the Board that is evidently spectacular at levelling accounts, and demand, for it is our right, MORE communication on transfer matters. Let us in! We are not the enemy! I have written to the Board outlining my frustration and shall Post the response!! Let us put aside the revolution, relinquish your pitchforks and encourage our board to blossom and share news with us! Moreover, we as fans demand that Stan Kroenke start to have an impact on our club. He needs to wield the same force as Roman Abramovich in seeking out players and investing in them, of course on recommendation from Arsene. He may be American but I am sure he can do North London proud.

In Arsene We Trust.

    Dear Fans,

You only communicate to the one you value. Therefore its not surprising that the Board is not doing so. Whatever irrational decision they take, we simply stomach it. Some fans have hanged themselves,we have spent alot in maintaining the team’s healthy balance sheet the Board is proud of. Such a situation wouldnt happening in big teams.

We need to stop this irrational exploitation by hitting the pocket, the only thing that hurts the Board.

Well… Gooners! Who blame expect ourselves! Really really good post and I believe that AW have to make a choice between being a Manager or a Board Member! We can critise the board but it will goes by what AW say! We can critise the team but who pick the team. Fulham and Swansea defeat just bring us back in September! Defeat does happen but in those fashions. This is disgraceful and I come to the conclusion that we are a MID TABLE team. Now everyone waiting on JW as the savior. This is not fair on the kid, everyone put the finger at AR this not fair either but when it comes to AA and TW ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Mr Wenger as to stand up and make an example.

The club keep saying we do not have money blablala but come out and sell dreams to fans. Today you want a tittle YOU HAVE TO SPEND MONEY!!! That is fact and I am not even talking about players at £60 million but let face it bargain we missed recently:

    Van der vaart
    Parker
    Enrique
    Granero
    Cahill
= this lot make roughly 60 million and guarantee you at last a top 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BAD BAD BAD Manegement! AW philosophy that I so often defen just backfire by not being able to be flexible.

My conclusion is AW must move to a more executive role build a coaching team Bergkamp – Adams – Bould who with his guidance will be successful.

Maybe they should say let’s not take our bonus this year and invest in some world class established players. As long as the current owner is in charge the fans won’t have much of a say in the matter. For me I’d be satisfied with a clear message from the board on what they want to achieve. We have made more money off player sales than any other English club during the last few years. During this time only the genius managerial skills of arsene wenger has kept us in some kind of contention with the top teams. Year by year we have been comin closer to being more of a Newcastle or Aston Villa, a decent team that can compete for Europa league places and maybe create an upset in one of the cups.
I will obviously keep supporting the arsenal no matter what but it would be great if they told me what they want. Is dividencemor important than title aspirations? Will arsene get te support that he needs in order to hold on to and attract great players or will we continue to sell off our most valued squad members. I just want to know and I wish they’d tell me.

sky and the birth of the premier league are to blame, to much money going into, football,. premier league transfers are out of control, no player on earth is worth 5 million. let alone, 20-30-50 100 million,.

and premier league players asking for extortionate, wages,
50-75 100- 200 thousand a week, transfers and wage demands. should be capped. and big name premier players need to look at what they have, and then look at the, starving, homeless. and desperate, maybe they should donate 10,000 a week out of thier wages , to help these people. becasue if premier league players cannot survive on 5, grand a week. and live in more moderate housing., spend less on . fast cars. only our troops and thier families deserve more, being killed and maimed, every day around the world. when some prem players get tackled u would think they had been shot thier a disgrace, no doubt english premier league is the best in the world, but lets start taking control of whats important,, you premier league players. i dont agree with wenger, not buying , but when palyers are asking for more than 50,000 a week he does have a point, arsenal are solvent they are not in debt, they need to buy more stronger players, not kids, . man u did they spent 50 million, after winning the title last summer. and they are 700 million in debt

I really do not understand this. Why say we are a mid table team when we are 5th in the Prem. Why on earth say we are going down? Don’t be so bloody rediculous! We are also still in FA cup and Champs league for effs sake. We do have problems with the board but no amount of protest will remove them. And do not keep trotting out the same old ‘don’t go to games’ don’t spend on merchandise etc. For every fan that gives up his seat there are a hundred waiting to take it. Any empty seats you may see now have already been paid for in advance. Go to the club shps in London, in other towns and at the stadium and you will see them full of buyers. So when we beat ManU this week, then Villa in cup next week and then Milan in CL perhaps you will all stop this bitching! Mind you if we lose those three games then I agree we have a serious problem! As for transfer speculation that is all it is, speculation. I read on another board suggesting we look at someone and then all of a sudden it becomes a rumour. Remember the press and these blogs make up stories to get more hits on their sites. How about having a go them too. If it does go tits up then perhaps a year out of the CL will be good for us and shake a few of the board up. It did not do our closest rivals spurs any harm did it. They are are now way above us this year. I wNt Arsenal to be top and whilst it hurts that both Manc clubs are above us the real pain to 90% of Gooners is that spurs are above us!

arsenal profit in last 4 years year end 31/05/11 £12.9m, 31/05/10 £67.4m, 31/05/09 £36.4m, 31/05/08 £36.5m, could easily use this money to make team 10 times stronger by getting rid of sczshitsney, ramsey, arsharvin, djourou, squilachi, rosisky, chamack, and the rest we need not mention these players are no way near the quality needed, if we got rid of this quantity plus all retained profits we could make 3 signings that would make our team a lot better, Jan vantroghen, mario goetze/ gourcuff and podolski to be realistic cos we all know we will never get hazard and players like that

Also, the writer of this article neglects Wengers failings, either Wenger is afraid to stand up to the board and make a stand or he is complacement in endorsing the multitude of failures from inability to give his underperformers a kick up the arse, altering wage structure, holding best players, shambolic transfers (mertsacker, jenkinson etc the new standard) to tactical naivety).

Wenger is every bit as much to blame as the board as he would have made a stand long ago for wage structure for a start. He is stuborn, refuses to evolve and is a dictator from everything to transfers and coaching.

Wenger is bringing us down as much as the board.

We are 5th in the league due to our countless injuries that seem to happen every year. We haven’t properly backed up our starting 11 with enough quality/impact subs on the bench because we insist they will be good enough “soon”.

I honestly think Kroenke is in because they board know he’s “silent” and they can control everything the way they want to. As long as it’s run properly as a business and it makes vs loses money he will be happy. Usmanov is the exact opposite and that’s why he’s not currently in charge. Get rid of Gazidis and Kroenke and things would improve instantly!

Times change and if you don’t change with them and adapt you get left behind. What stage are we at? Realizing we need to adapt or refusing to adapt and getting left behind.

I don’t think we need a massive clear-out in the locker room but we do need to make some big changes. I totally agree that there needs to be much more communication between Arsenal and the fans who support the club.

Good article, although I slightly dissagree with the statement that newcastle are an average outfit this year. Pardew has made some of the best transfers Ive seen in years, a group of players remeniscent of the types David Dein would have bought. Ben Arfa, Cisse, tiote, cabaye and the scoring machine Demba Ba are all signings I admire, and would have been excited had arsenal had the ambition to have made. Notice the French connection has dried up at Arsenal, with the injured bacary sagna, this connection has moved up the country to newcastle.

I along with the rest of us would love to see some of the roumours actually happen. The roumours of Gotze, Hazard, podolski, benzema, samba, raul albiol, kaka coming to arsenal are laughable! Oh no lets sign benayoun isntead in a last minute panic, along with a german mule who is supposed to have over 70 inernational caps.

    I cant stress how important it is that we keep our key players who (at bare minimum) I believe are;

    RVP
    Song
    Vermaelen
    Koscielny
    Wilshere

Board – I know you want to run the team like a sustainable business, and what Manche$ter City are doing is ruining football, I admire our policy of raising talent and youth policy. But Gotze and Hazard are barely in their 20s! If you want to be the best you must be able to compete wih the best. Wheres our ambition?

I still believe in Arsene Wenger. He is still one of the best managers in the world and deep down we all know that we are lucky to have him. without him and his ability to develop unknowns into world class players things woyld be a lot worse. It really angers me when people slag the manager off; they have short memories and need to wake up and realise there is no one else out there that could dp what he does. we have been over achieving in recent seasons; mainly because of Wenger. I am not convinced there is money to spend; surely as a fan, which he is, he would want arsenal to compwte with the very best in the world. so surely he would spend if the money was there.

kronke has to invest to gain our trust; if he doesnt then the bored wont survive.

times will get worse before they get better. but dont be fooled; we need wenger more than ever.

Ok. Lets get 1 thing straight. Lets b happy that we r nt sittin at the bottom of the table. Stan mite b the worst of the worst but there mite b some1 hu comes in his place(not usmanov) and drives them into the ground. I agree with many of the comments that communication is neccessary between the club and us fans. So all in all, All hail Arsenal and in Arsene i trust.

I’m goin to protest outsyd da emirates before the arsenal v man utd match. If ur a true gunner u will protest aswell. Like if u will protest. Us gunners r fed up. We still haven’t won a single trophy at the emirates and we have become a selling club. If the board wanted to they could throw 150million to wenger for transfers and we could buy sum world class talent like neymar for example. U can’t expect to buy players for 13million and expect to win trophies. World class talent costs 20million plus. And if fings stay like dis we r never gna progress we r gna b mid table team. I’m shocked fans haven’t protested yet. What r u waitin for? 2022? Please protest at the emirates on sunday!!!

Wenger has said that he is not going to buy in this window adn that he ‘trusts’ in his current squad. Sadly (in my opinion) that ends our chance of makin top 4 :-( Chelsea have just most likely sorted out their woeful defending this season by signing Gary Cahill for 7million from Bolton, a player Arsenal were strongly linked with all last year. And why did we miss out?Same reason we missed out on Juan Mata, simple ignorance by Wenger refusing to pay an extra 2 or 3 mill because its not what he values these players at. Guess what Arsene, 90% of the world values these players at these prices, hmmm wonder why 90% of Arsenal fans are tearing their hair out right now. Dont get me wrong i think he is one of the worlds top managers but his transfer policies and opinions are among the worst in the world. If Van Persie leaves, which he probably will seeing as we are in the cash generating business, i realy realy do fear for our future, not in the long term because i think our glory days will return 1 day but for the next 5 or 6 years its gonna be hard times. <3 Arsenal :-(

Lol at hazard for 4Omill. At da end off summer transfer market wenger panicked n made enquiries for 20 players. I’m sure hazard was one of dem n wenger wudnt pay 40mill for him. That wud b stupid considering neymar has a 40mill clause n bringin him wud make arsenals attackin force be sumfin to make world class defenders shiver in fear. But we need to strengthen on da defence area mainly.

Find a couple of midfielders with a little more fight or the balls to play some creative passes FORWARD and arsenal would be in a much stronger position. The board have been the same for years and everyone only winges about them when the form of the team drops a little. Arsenal have competed year in year out selling their top class players and that won’t change. The defence is a lot more solid than previous seasons and when in form we have some of the best forward players in the league. Just watch what a difference wilshere along will make with his style of play in the next month or so on his return. In my opinion arsenal will still finish top four its not as bad as it seems right now, one or two midfielders, workers, will turn everything around. Remember what the signing or arshavin did for the club. Wait till the end of the season then start your crying.

All the teams in EPL are looking to plug in on their defficiencies….even the most poorest! We scream all over the place how healthy financially we are and when we decide to buy we bring in some third rate players whose money should have been used to buy quality…And these board all it does is seat on their rocking chairs and laugh at us…Our players lack confidence, are easily intimidated and still no mention of any arrivals…ITS HEARTBREAKING!!!!!

Arsenal supporters are the most passive football supporters in the country. The only problem arsenal has is arsen wenger. This guy has lost it he has no clue. Just look at his recent recruits. no other top manager would go for those players. It is not about money because he could have gotten better players here for the same price of even less. Arsenal defensive problems have been well documented in the last seven years and everyone in the world of football knows them but Arsen wenger. For the past seven years Arsen Wenger has been unable to address Arsenal’s defensive problems. I think Arsen has done his time he should leave now and let someone else in
