The one quality signing that could save Wenger and Arsenal
A way to save our Club by Roy
As most of you Arsenal fans out there feel frustrated about our inactivity in the transfer market or about the transfer sagas of Fabregas, Nasri, Clichy, Bendtner, Denilson.
One thing really is starting to stand out as being the biggest threat to our club that is hindering the manager’s hand in the transfer market (some fans have already talked about it or felt it), and although money might come up quickly as being the reason no it isn’t. It is sadly big players and uprising stars too are joining other big clubs and leave us to choose from the leftovers that will not improve our squad.
So the plan to solve this problem is try to get a big star that might pull a lot others with him, by my logic no one will come but if Wenger looked carefully he might see a Ronaldinho as being the player that would cover up for both Fabregas and Nasri if they left, or at least might convince one of them of staying and enjoying playing with him.
Why Ronaldinho?
1) A Brazilian Magic that the Supporters would love and pay to see.
2) would attract big players to play alongside him.
3) Have won a lot of medals in his career.
4) would teach players like Wilshere, Miyaichi, Wellington Silva some skills and tricks so they can mature to be world class more quickly.
5) would provide some advice to Wenger on whom to buy from Brazil before they get on the radar of other big clubs.
6) His price wont be too much (not more than what Man United paaid for Jones 16m) since he is playing in Brazil and his club is suffering financially, and he isn’t that young anymore.
7) He needs an opportunity to prove that he isn’t finished in a team that let him shine to win back a place in the Brazil national team and stay there until the world cup finishes
He could provide us with some good 3 years, inspire the team and lead us to the title.
Ok it now seems like I’m a Ronaldinho fan not Arsenal, but no, Its Arsenal first and last, but his name came to my mind after I became very afraid of were the club is heading and seeing players avoiding the club, very sad really, even if we pay more money now we might still lose against other big clubs.
The Club now is in a very dangerous situation, if the Manager doesn’t make the right moves he might destroy his legacy at the club, He must think how to solve the difficult questions that are knocking on his door and They are:
1) How to end the sagas of players wanting to leave after letting their contract run till one year only.
2) How to make the Fans happy and support him again, by buying quality players and getting rid of the ones that are milking the money from the club and not providing anything in return.
3) How shall he convince Lansbury and Bartley to stay when he is looking to buy another players, and what he will do with Traore and Botelho.
I don’t know the solution, but what I know for sure is that the club need leaders, guys with characters, who will bleed for the cause and never give up. It does seem like its half English Players and the other is world class players with experience and winning mentality.
Wenger must buy a forward, strong tackling midfielder and commanding center half, drop Squillaci and we will have 5 quality center backs and may the best win their place.
As for the sole defensive midfield position, if both Denilson and Spurs-loving Diaby go and the Frimpong doesn’t make it, so Arsenal must buy a bigger tougher player that forces Song to sit on the bench and up his game, then the position will be complete.
Toral (who can wait) as the young Catalan is destined to complete the triangle with Wilshere and Ramsey in 2 years time maximum (remember his name), So that leaves Lansbury in an awkward position, I for one would at least put Lansbury on the right back as a back up for Sagna, he and Bartley can give Arsenal what Wilshere gave to the team last season.
Wenger must stop this mass Young Gunners thing, a little from here and there is good, but for the wage bill no it is not.
Sell: Fabregas, (Nasri if they have to), Arshavin, Bendtner, Denilson, Diaby, Clichy, Rosicky, Vela, Eboue, Squilachi, Almunia, Mannone, Traore, Jay Emmanuel Thomas, Frimpong, Sanchez Watt, Sunu and Galdinio.
And then Arsenal will have a real money to add to their 45m supposed war chest, the thing that let us laugh more is the fact that we will emerge way better from every aspect, from reducing the wage bill, to dispose from rebels and the dead wood, add some local players that actually loves the club and proud to wear the shirt and have the money to buy some much needed stars to help the team.
Buy: Falco, Ronaldinho, De Rossi or Filipe Melo, Giorgio Chiellini.
Surely the money should be enough with the mass sale of the dead wood and their wage bill, luckily and that’s one of the good things that Wenger have done is that with all these players leaving we will still have a very good squad and a fantastic young players coming through that can actually make it at the club.
From the depth of despair, a rosy picture arrives that let us believe the club will not fall and rot anymore, If just the Manager can read some wishes and solutions he would have a great time managing the club and continue his legacy, its as simple as doing the obvious things and not complicating it more that it needs to, sell the dead wood and buy some real quality players.

Dnt nid 2 sell Arshavin, wen not @ his best he has better stats than e PFA player of the year & his mature. Dnt sell Frimpong, Mannone ws outstandin when he got his chance, future Italy goaly. Id rather hav Shweinsteiger or Kaka 2 Ronaldinho coz I still watch him in Brazil & he can barely get past players dis days. His blockd left, ryt & centre

Great article.
Ronaldinho seems like a good prospect but I’m afraid that’d mean losing out on Neymar (if he ever was a real possibility)
also, fabregas and nasri out? that’s not intelligent. i mean, fabregas had one off season but you don’t sell the man who fissured his leg by scoring an equalizer against barcelona and risking his world cup championship

if u sell so much reserve players there will be no one left to play reserve league. Wenger should stop his policy of not giving more than one year contract for 30+ aged players which is exactly why vander wart chose spurx over arsenal even with rvp appealing to him.
Ps. I always thought nasri as a skilled player who didn’t do much for the team….i would have sold him anyway. The thing is the money we spent on him and what we get for him.

@Gooner lol that was a very strange transfer list he made lol my guess is, he plays too much Fifa 11 haha.
I’ll name JUST ONE of the many problems with getting Ronaldinho. His wages are far, far, far to high for Arsenal.

Cristiano Ronaldo went to United because they paid a much bigger transfer fee. Phil Jones went there because he’s a United fan. Vieira and Balotelli went to City because their old manager was there. Name me a player who has chosen an EPL team other than Arsenal because of the reputation of players at the club ? That’s just a ludicrous suggestion. They might choose United because they are the champions and because they are consistently champions but not because they have Wayne Rooney. If anything that’d put players off because he’s a d***. Eden Hazard is the hottest property in the market right now and we are reliably informed that his favourite club to join from Lille is Arsenal so your theory is rubbish.

Three seasons ago I was heralding the purchase of a star perfomer to attract the crowds, a true glory boy. I reminded Wenger he was not only in the football business but in the entertainment business and even if Arsenal did well with his youngsters he could be “singing to empty tables” unless he buys a star attraction. The fans need someone to worship who`s on the world stage. Fabregas, good as he is, is home grown as well as home sick. Imagine, the reaction if Messi came to town, not that he will but it makes my point. Then a ticket price hike would be more than acceptable.

This is complete BS, Wenger will sell either Fabregas or Nasri but not both. He wont sell Frimpong, Lansbury and Bartley because they can all play an important role in their respective positions.
Ronaldinho is a good player but he is NOT known as one that will ‘fight for the club’s cause’. He is a party animal only really interested in himself!!!

I was fortunate enough to be able to go to Brazil this past year to watch Flamengo v Fluminese and see Ronaldinho in action, and I must admit that I was very underwhelmed. While his skill is undeniable, he is a selfish player who gave the ball away much more often than a player of his caliber should. For a possession oriented, passing style of attack, I think that Ronaldinho is definitely not of the Arsenal mold. Signing him would be a mistake.

hahaha you are a joke.
ronaldinho? solving our problems?!?! your having a laugh…
every suggestion you make is ludicrous, lansbury at right back!?! pfft…your signings? your sales? sigh….
BUT!
the premise of your article might be worth debate…would a big name signing help arsenal, outside of the pitch?
possibly, yes. it might get the media off our backs, it might get some fans off the clubs back, off the managers back. it might persuade players like cesc, nasri, clichy to stay. it might also attract other big players to arsenal…
however arsenal is a very attractive club to players. sometimes players will choose man u, sometimes arsenal, thats okay…there are other big clubs out there. we have competition after all and it is fierce, thats good and makes it exciting.
if we miss out on a player, there are hundreds of others our there. its not a game where there is fixed potential, numerical stats. humans have exponential potential to learn, and change, and grow.
ill put it this way…if miyachi, or wellington or wislhere becomes the next messi, and i get to see that seed grow, the arsenal way, and start delivering with a team of similar arsenal bred players id be alot happier that if we buy ronaldinho!!! if i have to wait another couple seasons to realize that dream thats okay….because i believe when they start winning, they wont stop for quite sometime!
lets make some changes sure…but lets find our own players, and our own solutions and not buy into it all.

A big name like who ? With the shirt sales generated you end up doubling the price if you’re buying someone marketable and Arsenal are hopeless at marketing so it’s pointless. The way to do it is to create legends within the club such as Thierry. Gervinho would be a great purchase, even better would be Eden Hazard. Cahill would probably sell shirts just because everyone will see him as the savior of our defense if he comes. The last time someone bought an established big name was Real buying Ronaldo and that cost them 80m. Who’s to say that it wouldn’t be more this time. The best players on the market (or not available, who knows) are probably Neymar, Hazard, Pastore, Benzema, Falcao, Hamsik and Mario Gotze. Forget existing big names, those are the guys that you want in your team and they will sell shirts.

Ok i give up. Three times i tried and my post didn’t appear. What i wanted to say was forget existing big names the list of players you want at your team reads as follows.
Eden Hazard, Mario Gotze, Javier Pastore, Neymar, Falcao, Benzema, Marek Hamsik, Alexis Sanchez. I must admit i don’t know much about La Liga beyond the top two but those are the best of the rest. Melo has been terrible this year at Juventus, i don’t know why he keeps being mentioned. A much better player is Arturo Vidal at Leverkusen, Marcel Scmelzer at Dortmund or Yann M’Vila at Rennes.

When we signed Bergkamp, i remember reading that Ian Wright was so excited and disbelieving that he drove to the Stadium to confirm that it was true. There are not many players that would do that today and there are not many players that would make another player do that. Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, Neymar i am struggling to think of anymore. However seeing as we could not afford any of them, i guess the most exciting player we can hope for is Benzema or Hazard.
BTW i almost agree with all of your sales, however, i would pay Nasri the extra £1m a year that he needs just to get him on a longer contract. Fabregas we have no need to sell he has 4 years remaining so set a price £60m+ make it public and be done with, if anyone meets the price then it is up to the player. Also i would keep Mannone, Frimpong and Galindo, i would also try Arshavin in another role for 1 season, if he does not improve sell him with a year still to run. You can add Hoyte, Boateng, Mcdermott, Meade and Murphy to your list.
And as for the reserve league, pull out or simply use it as we are doing. It really does not matter if we win it, but is a great way to give players a game coming back from injury and a way of toughening up the U18′s.

Ridiculous article. Out of touch from reality. I am not even going to begin to explain how wrong this arrival is on so many levels. Its obviously written by a coach potato on psych med. Yes I have met one previously and no they shouldn’t be aloud to write arrivals. Sorry Mr its like the screeching singer on xfactor whose family think he or she are brilliant but they are so off pitch its painful and they need to be told to stop and never sing. If not forthemslevs then the sake of everyone else’s ears. If arsenal even attempt to buy ronaldinho I will strip naked and stand at Trafalgar square with a sign around my neck “I’m am an idiot! No single player is going to make a difference to the team we have. You’re forgetting we had Thierry Henry spearheading the team once and we had better players then – so what is Ronaldinho going to do … it’s ridiculous.
You say about frustration in the transfer market … you should know the Transfer window doesn’t even open until July 1st … no players are being signed anywhere YET.
You should also know that the chief executive Ivan Gazidis deals with all the transfer negotiations – Not Arsene Wenger … I’ve told you this before.

Buy 2 world class strikers (Gavinho and Falco), when one is away on nations’s cup the other is active, if RVP is injured with have another regular goal machine. This is important so that you don’t have 0-0 games or 1-0 let alone 0-1. Spend big on 2 defenders ( not necessarily big money, but spend big, the like of Samba is big and is another big cover in the post against all sort of flying set pieces.
The make the fans extremely happy by now bringing in one established goal keepers. If we do this and keep Fab and Nasri then no need for more midfield players to come in. Leave the Lille Eden to stay there one more season.
Sell, Almunia, Denilson, Traore,Diaby, Rosisky, Scilachi, vela, and bendtner( since he prefers to leave, though I think we need him and his big ego).
And on top of this, allow Pat Rise to spend his one year extension on another role. Bring in another former captain to be assistant manager like Dennis, viara or Tony Adams.
Hmmm lots to say – Bring in Guadiola in as Manager next season on three years contract, move wenger to be Director, after Guadiola is done winning all we want, let him go where he wants next, bring Wenger back as Manager to be assisted by Henry.
Now, I have just woken up, can someone interpret my dream?

You make a very valid arguement. But your solution is off about 4 years. If we were to ever have bought Ronaldinho it should have been after we gave him his Champions league medal. I agree that the single player that would give us back our swagger would be Eto. Between him and Zlatan, Eto would get the edge on mentallity and cohesion with RVP. Who could stop that front line?

Ronaldinho is not the answer. Why dont need more attacking players. Lets concentrate on the defence and a good holding midfielder. Only buy attacking players if we lose some of the ones we currently have. For one stop pissing about and Get Nasri signed he was outstanding at the start of the season mainly when Fabregas wasnt playing he was at his best. Get rid of Fabregas as he clearly wants to go so why keep him. Clichy let him go then move TV5 to left back and buy Cahill and Samba

I don’t think Ronnie will help us in this kind of situation. Ronnie has been trough his best, and now he is just enjoying football as the way it is. He no longer has goals and aims in football. It doesn’t suit us who are targeting to stop this dry-seasons curse. Ronaldinho is one good figure but no, thanks.

Hey, guys calm down, it was his opinion and i agree with part of it but i also think part is stupid and he is leaving out key players we could still snatch and the likes of Willian from Donetsk, yes start signing other then young talent but keep signing the young talent as well. Willian could be the future of this club, Thiago from Barca for the Cesc deal could be huge! Gervinho could still pick us seeing how he has more favor for us and in addition he wouldnt play on man city. With Dzeko Tevez and Bollateli idc if any of them leave its still a bench spot for Gervinho. So i say my transfer list is this.
Sell: (Again Nasri if needed) Eboue, Arshavin, Clichy, Squilachi, Vela, BD52, Denilson, Almunia and sadly i think this is the Summer we have to let Cesc go
He has done alot for us and i personally love the guy but the money we could get for him would be crucial.
Sell all of them or most and we would have a huge huge amount of money to spend during this transfer window.
Buy: Falco/or Benzema/ as our striker. I would try for a bid on Kaka seeing how hes saying hes happy at Madrid but his agent says hes not.If Kaka isnt a option in midfield we could use hazzard and maybe instead of hazzard(Want to def get) or kaka in the central midfield Arda Turan who is usually a high class wing player also plays part time for Galastray in the CAM position. If Diaby leaves which i dont think is smart with the CDM posistion low on numbers then i would say we should buy a CDM of some quality maybe Tymmoschuck even tho hes old he could be a expierenced player to lead the team and be a bench player ready to pot in for Song. Then in the Center D. area i think we will need the likes of Chillini who is a word class center half, or the likes of Samuel whos contract is winding down. Really i think Kaka if we could get him would be the captain type of leadership we need at the momment, and i think if we cant get him ARda Turan could be a sutible replacement ( iwant hazzard regardless); and i think a commanding center half would be Chillini and even maybe Benzema over Falco due to his expierence at higher levels of soccer.

The best idea is to sell Wenger or as they say fire him, send him back to France and let him do his dirty, nasty, stingy strategy over there.
Rebuilt a team comprise of skilled world class players mix it up with the talented youngster we have now.
Every summer Wenger does this to us Arsenal and there are some who childishly fall for it. He is cheap, stingy, and works for shareholders. Every season he brings in a team with so many deadwoods, and manages to stay in 3rd or 4th, and that is exactly what the owners want big money no spending and heart broken fans.

Very good article.
Interesting point of veiw.
I think ronaldinho would be better suited to bring in as a player/coach role. Emphasis on the coach!
Selling all those players is a bit extreme there dont u think. Like you basically would sell our bench and half the first team and bring in 6 players and some possibly talented yet unproven youngsters. Would that not put us back a few years?!
I dont think Lansbury would make a good right-back. I can see where your coming from he is strong and a work-horse but theres a difference between a big guy running at you and actual defending.
But ya good article with some interesting veiws!

1) I wish people look at the whole picture without ignoring the rest of good points, I stated the positives of signing Ronaldinho, (in a perfect world I would like to take a bet if he is signed and failed to deliver but Wenger wont do it), and am sure there are others who see’s only negatives in him and they are free to think that way,(even I know some!), but it doesn’t mean I have to agree completely with them.
I’m still convinced with the price of players linked to Arsenal he would be a good gamble, Gervinho 15m, Chamberlain 12m), Surely I’d gamble on Ronaldinho than paying this kind of money on unproven players an day.
2) Lansbury playing right back, that’s not because I want to, but because i don’t want the manager to drive him out of the club when he can’t guarantee first team opportunities that he truly deserves, we all know without being given enough chances he can’t dislodge either Wilshere, Ramsey or Song, and if Diaby, Denilson stays the dark road will be longer, and if a new enforcer arrives to help song it will be impossible definitely, I can’t be happier if he make it at the club.
3) I don’t play at all any kind of football manager really without joking.
4) About selling half of the team and closing the reserves too! no body should talk about this without actually knowing the players that we have and who we can get rid of without being damaged.
Enough is enough, any player that is not at the level needed at our club (which should be high by a chance)we should get rid off sooner rather than later, and I know the club would emerge stronger immediately, just check out the first team and they quality players that are coming through you will find it amazing how we will not suffer at all.
like Afobe, Aneke, Coquelin, Bartley, Igansi Miquel, Wellington Silva, Freeman, Toral and a lot others so we will not have a shortage with reserves teams.
Look at the players and their affect to the team if they left:
Fabregas, (Nasri if they have to) here we will suffer and we will have to buy one player at least, but I’m betting if the right players comes and Nasri got the pay rise that he wants he will stay, so no money is needed. (money gained to strengthen the squad Positive)
Arshavin, lazy to say the least, can’t play more than 20 minutes in the premier league is criminal, Surely Ronaldinho couldn’t be any worse if he tried to. (Positive)
Denilson,Diaby < Wilshere, Ramsey, Song, (De Rossi or Filipe Melo). (so it isn't a loss, Positive)
Bendtner < Falco. (positive surely)
Squilachi < Giorgio Chiellini.(Positive Surely)
Rosicky < Miyaichi which will scare a lot of defenders with his pace or Lansbury, saving his wages and having a local boy instead. (positive)
Clichy we must sell so we can have some money, and he is past his best. (positive)
Traore If Wenger promote Gibbs or brings back botelho who is making a name for him self in spain. (positive)
Vela, he will never get a chance and probably wont make it so selling for some money. (positive surely)
Eboue, although if he stays i wont be sad (he can still deliver the goods when needed), but if the manager truly believe his new signing Carl Jenkinson have the quality to play for the first team, then he should start as understudy to Sagna and gain experience and impress when he has the chance to do so, and a couple of players that can cover there too if needed, some money. (positive)
Almunia, past his best (positive)
Mannone and James Shea, we have Wojciech Szczesny, Fabianksy and Emiliano Martínez which is enough. $$$$$$$$ (positive)
Jay Emmanuel Thomas, Eastmond, Sanchez Watt, Frimpong
and Galdinio, because there path is closed by young Quality players mentioned above and having the likes of Lansbury and Francis Coquelin impressing and staking a claim to be included in the first team. $$$$$ (positive)
Sunu, wont get the chance to play, and Lorient want him. $$$$$ (positive)
Hoyote < Ignasi Miquel (positive)
A lot more of the worthless youngsters can be sold to take them of the wage bill, only the very best should stay.
So in the End Wenger will have more money from the sale of the dead wood and the wages that are saved, which i pray that he will invest in some top quality players.

ronaldinho? dont be a plonker. falcao now… although he’s not a BIG player, he did score 33 goals this season, i believe we need someone with that spirit and hunger to win the game, not just by one but by 3 goals or 4 just like the old days. if not falcao we definitely need another striker to help RVP. maybe who knows, they develop a good relationship on the ground and it can lead us to more wins. we also need some new broads at the back.. and believe it or not, we definitely need a better goalkeeper to be totally honest..

roy you can’t just sell players like bloody hot cakes. sell frimpong? are you joking? we should give him time, he seems like a good prospect for the future, and besides selling all those players i doubt we’d have enough to fill for 11 men loool

Wenger, go to the market and get us some solid players. and while you are at it, make sure you keep our present solid players. Act like a coach for once in a long while.
you keep doing the same thing over and over, while expecting a different result…that’s lunacy dude.
Gooner, Win or Loose.

Wenger should change or else he lands the team into oblivion. The problem is that he thinks he is too intelligent to buy established players. Worse still he wants to wait to end up buying free lance players

Are you ever going to make players like Alan Sunderland and Frank Stapleton. It is sad for us gunners here in Zambia.

douglas costa is the closest thing to ronaldinho and cheaper than neymar. buy him and benzema keep cesc and nasri we’ll have a great team. i am not really bothered about samba, kyle bartley can step up and add some needed muscles in defence.
mohammadou diarra is free he can provide leadership and steel in the middle of field.

Are some people really just plain stupid? Fabregas and Nasri were on the verge of leaving anyway.. So don’t criticise someone who is up to date with reality! Ronaldinho? He would be the perfect signing for Arsenal.. Why? Because of his experience of winning with Barcelona, Ac milan.. His experience of being involved with a similar style team as Arsenal (Barca) He wouldnt cost much, Fans and I would most ceirtainly enjoy watching him! If some of you spent the time to research, you’d find that although Ronaldinho is in his early 30′s he is still performing at top level, But because of his age we could find a bargain! He would create a fantastic buzz at Arsenal be a real boost for the fringe players who are struggling to perform, ie Rosicky, Raamsey, etc Although Rosicky has displayed some talent of late..
Ronaldinho’s effect at Arsenal = Priceless! & Arsenal are in a great financial situation to be able to fund such a deal.. It’s a no brainer!
