Theo Walcott – “We Need To Start Doing It On The Pitch”
Arsenal have come in for a lot of criticism this season, and rightly so after their worst start for 58 years, but Theo Walcott reckons the players should be to blame and not boss Arsene Wenger.
Speaking to Absolute Radio today Walcott said, “The boss is a great man, he can deal with anything thrown at him. He’s been at the club for over 15 years and so he’s not under any pressure at all. Us players, we need to look at ourselves and start doing it on the pitch, to be honest.”
Quite right Theo. I am a firm believer that players, not managers, should take more of the blame for results. OK managers pick the team, but once those 11 players cross that white line they should be held more accountable. After all you don’t see players getting sacked after a couple of poor games do you!
Walcott went on to say, “A lot of people say about the defensive sort of issue, but it’s not just the back four, you need to look at defending as a whole team. We haven’t managed to do that so we need to make sure we’re at it against Bolton at the weekend. It’s going to be a tough game. They have come from a good result during midweek. We’ve got our home fans as well. We’ve got a few home games and that’s important for us now, to have our home support. The boss can deal with anything.”
It is mainly about the back four Theo, but it is good to see you sticking up for your team mates. He then said, “We’re scoring goals. We managed to score three goals away from home and still lost, which was disappointing. But we just need to forget about it. We need to just move on. That is important for us, not to dwell on these results we’ve had. We just need to try and just win, take it game by game. Maybe we’re thinking too far ahead at the moment. As soon as we start getting a good run, hopefully you’ll see the true Arsenal come back. Manchester United had a bad start last season, not as bad as us, but you can bounce back from that so we’ve got nothing to worry about.”
You can bounce back, and the majority of Gooners, myself included, believe that we will. No better time to start then than tomorrow against Bolton. To coin a phrase lets show some real bouncebackability!

I agree with Walcott Arsenal certainly don’t defend well as a team. Nobody attacks the ball at set plays nobody tracks runners. These things need sorting if we are going to stop conceding the amount of goals we are.

@ guv never beleive zonal marking worked, and it didnt last week. IF we concede two we have the strenght, pace and ability to score three. It is the mentality that the likes of United adopt why not us.

I remember when Arsene signed unwanted star-in-the-making players such as Henry, Vieira and unknown talents such Ljungberg, Kolo Toure, etc. I really think Wenger should start doing this again. There are a lot of Madrid players who are regarded as surplus requirement. If Drenthe can prove himself in the Premiere League, oh please sign him Wenger!!!

some seasons ago the Legend Tony Adams give critics to Arshavin because he did to the defense job properly. He said when he played in Arsenal every one was working for the defense from forward to defenders and that what made them so good. I agree with Adams this season more than ever, they need to play on the hole team.
I am still belonging to the group “In Wenger we trust” but he need to buy a stable back!

As much as I don’t want to hear our players talking about anything, Theo is right. This is what I have always been saying. The team is absolutely no where when it comes to team defense. They give so much space to their opponents in their own half. I always say that Barcelona has BAD defenders but they are covered by that incredible team defense. The lack of team defense make bad teams look good when they play us. We have very good defenders but they look bad because they do not get any help from their teamates. Come on you Arsenal
