There are consequences when you leave Arsenal
Feel sorry for Wenger by AS
Some fans loyal to Arsenal Football Club will be fervently hoping the last couple of days have been a really bad nightmare, most probably caused by something you ate. They’ll be hoping that Robin van Persie has not borrowed Fabio da Silva’s number 20 jersey at Manchester United. Others will fervently hope that the injuries the Dutchman suffered at Arsenal come back to haunt him.
Whatever the reaction suffered by Arsenal fans, I’m sure you’re all feeling sorry for yourselves. You’ve seen a man who was in such scintillating form last season he made Batman look like his sidekick.
You were, I’m sure, hoping he would backtrack on his statement released on the fourth of July, with the ardent wish that he would commit to a new deal at the Emirates.
Well, don’t feel sorry for yourselves, feel sorry for Arsene Wenger.
The Frenchman has seen some of his Club’s best talent leave North London for greener pastures for several years now. Indeed, so predictable has it now become that fans of rival clubs now tell Gooners that new Captain Thomas Vermaelen will be on his way out next season.
Over the last few years, Arsene Wenger has seen the likes of Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy, Ashley Cole, Francesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Emmanuel Adebayor, Robin van Persie and now Alex Song leave Ashburton Grove in pursuit of ‘ambition’ and ‘success’.
What hurts is not that these players left the club, what hurts is that these are players that Arsene Wenger hand-reared to make them the footballers they are today. What hurts is the manner in which they left the Club. And though there are exceptions to the rule, not many have gone on to win accolades away from the Ashburton Grove. Ironically, had these players stayed at Arsenal, instead of trickling out the exit door, they could’ve actually won something.
While the above statement may not be absolutely true, football is, more often than not, about what lies beyond that which is immediately tangible.
Yes, Samir Nasri has won the Premier League title (on goal difference), but so insecure is he about his place in City’s starting eleven that he takes a jab at Arsenal every now and then. Is he really worth the £25 million City forked out for him last season? As Arsene Wenger says, football rules are made such that a player can be worth a lot today and nothing tomorrow. Nasri seems to be acutely aware of that fact. He may have tasted success on the field, but judging by the way he behaves off it, few will remember what he’s done on the turf. His behaviour at the European Championships in Poland-Ukraine was atrocious, and the French Football Federation have handed him a two-match ban as punishment.
Emmanuel Adebayor is now forever on-loan, and it is quite evident that he moved to Manchester only to significantly increase his earnings. Tottenham Hotspur recently wanted to buy him after he had spent last season on loan there, but he was not willing to take a pay cut to move to Arsenal’s hated rivals. As the Togolese himself put it, he was content to earn money while playing on the City bench.
Kolo Toure was once captain of the Citizens, but the arrival of Vincent Kompany has seen him forced out of the starting XI. Toure then took a slimming pill which contained a banned substance (possibly in an attempt to keep himself fit) and tested positive for drugs. Toure was banned for six months, in which time Joleon Lescott had made the centre-back berth his own and Stefan Savic had been signed.
Despite making 14 appearances and winning the league last season, Toure is no longer first choice, and doesn’t see eye-to-eye with Roberto Mancini. This was clearly seen when Toure flung his Community Shield winners’ medal into the crowd in anger after City had beaten Chelsea 3-2 at Villa Park recently. Toure had spent the entire game on the bench, with the young Savic being preferred to him.
There are many other examples I can provide you with. Arsenal’s talisman Cesc Fabregas has failed to win anything of note – with the exception of the Spanish Cup – against Athletic Bilbao. Victory in the UEFA Super Cup, Supercopa Espana and the Club World Cup were expected. Alexander Hleb was frozen out of Barcelona’s squad, and today is playing for his boyhood Club BATE Borisov, after loan spells at Birmingham City and VfB Stuttgart and a short stint at Russian club Samara Sovetov. Even today, he regrets leaving Arsenal.
The King of Arsenal, Thierry Henry, like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, was excluded from Barca’s plans towards the end of his time with the Catalan giants. Like Zlatan, he was not given an explanation as to why he wasn’t featuring for the Camp Nou side. He remained a Gunner for life, though, having returned to Arsenal for a loan spell from New York Red Bulls last season. He has also expressed a desire to join the coaching staff at Arsenal once he retires.
What of Mathieu Flamini at AC Milan? The other half of the Fla-Fa combination at Arsenal, Flamini was third choice behind Massimo Ambrosini and Gennaro Gattuso at AC Milan. He has recently signed a contract extension, but that will see him take a significant pay cut.
Only Gael Clichy has gone about his business quietly. So has Ashley Cole to a lesser extent. Because the truth is that Wenger made them who they are today. They would not be capable, proven players who had the audacity to command such high wages had it not been for Wenger. They left Arsenal just as they were about to peak, and have gone on (for the most part) to regret it. Because the truth is, that had they stayed at Arsenal together, their careers would’ve definitely flourished.
As ex-Gunner Paul Merson puts it, few players leave Arsenal and live to regret it.

I don’t blame the players for leaving, the club are sending the wrong signals ie come to our club we will develop you and then after you have a tantrum, you can leave. So obviously this will attract the wrong types of players. The club needs to be more stricter with players and punish them with fines, like we have seen with modric and Dempsey just this season.

I think Wenger has changed and we’re seeing it without realizing it. It looks like he is building a new team. His first team – Arsene 1.0 did brilliantly, the Invincibles. Arsene 2.0 almost got there and he had a lot of faith in them but they let him down, the Invisibles. It looks like he has had enough and we’re seeing the construction of Arsene 3.0. Certainly his transfer activity is uncharacteristic.
What do you guys think?

i don’t know, i feel obligated to cast a little doubt on this article… i constantly read about ‘club loyalty’ and this and that but i call bull#$%@…
i mean, yes, some players have admitted to regretting leaving arsenal (hleb) but players want more money and they want to win trophies. it’s not rocket science. arsenal doesn’t pay very well so players go where they can make better salaries. it’s as simple as that.
and honestly, you can’t blame them at all, yet so many idiots do because they think all players should prioritize loyalty above the financial security of their children. just because the fans are diehard supporters of a particular club doesn’t mean the players will be.
a professional athlete’s window for securing their future (and their kid’s future and their grandkid’s future) is quite small, so they need to make as much money as they can before they turn 30 or thereabouts. most of these guys have no other skills in life so football needs to be what carries them into and past retirement
ask yourself how loyal you would be to the company you work for if the rival company right across the street offered you double your salary. you’d take it in a heartbeat because you’d be a f’ng idiot not to

We all don’t knw wengers secret weapon but what is suprisin players don’t learn from their fallen frens

In africa they say a farmer who blames the hoe is not a farmer. They can’t fight for their team to win titles and next thing they do is pack and look for titles and they get these titles not in the starring role but as benchwarmers because that’s who they are they want others to fight for them.

The truth is that Arsenal plays a community type of game. Players compliment each other and selfishness is not common. It is easy for a good player to bring out his best in such circumstance. When players leave to another club where your individual skill and efforts need to bear, the shortfalls are exposed. That is why some players cannot shine outside Arsenal. Their love for money and perceived trophy always blind them to leave so those players in Arsenal now need to look before they leap.

No one cares who made these players …we just want to win trophies. They way to do that is to keep our best players not sell them to rival teams.
The way Song left was upsetting….he did not come out like Van Mercenary and was our second best player last season. There is no point all of a sudden calling him lazy…just be truthful and say the board are cashing in. We appear to be overhauling the team but we are paying for this by selling key players and the risk is that late additions to the team don’t have much time to gel.
No one is saying spend zillions…but the board should just stop beng so greedy.

I think Robin Van Pursestrings will show a bit of form for a few games early to mid season and tail off and he will either be an the be on the bench or injured, I think that Man Ure play a different style to us and it will not suit RVP, in the end only time will tell as to whether he regrets it, with all my heart I hope he does.

Come on guys, whilst we all wish rvp fails , transfers for more money or percieved greener pastures are normal, how are we going to get Llorient , how did we get Arteta, how did we get Mers. The only issue is to hope that players do it with dignity and integrity like Ces Fab and Henry. So let’s leave the foolish buggers alone, what once looked like green pastures to them is likely to turn into a quagmire. In the case of Song this is most likely to occur soon, he has a lot to lose, he is comparatively young and has a number of years to go and he is not as accomplished as he believes , he is good but needs nurturing something unlikely to happen in the Barca first team. RVP is likely to end up like Berbatov. Ok for about half a season then the pressure and burden will get to him and then he will land up on the bench. At Manure there will be a lot more competition and a lot less warmth and this will be his undoing. He will find this difficult, no longer will others be in awe of him as at Arsenal. We now need to get behind the new arrivails , be patient and make sure they feel welcome and appreciated, then they will settle well and begin to perform as we would want.

I don’t see Song being a first team starter. Masch and Busquests are better defensive midfielders than he. Csec and Xavi are better central midfielders than him. Inesita is a much better attacking player. Alcantra has more upside too. He’ll live to regret his move, unless he’s content with a back up role at Barca. Truth is, he’s just not that good. RVP, hopefully he gets injured soon.

Adebayor- Copa Del Rey
Hleb- La Liga and CL
Flamini- Serie A
Lass- Copa Del Rey and La Liga
Cole- a good number of trophies including CL
Fabregas- Copa Del Rey, Spanish Super Cup n European Super Cup
I know you’ll bite me on some of these facts but they aяe facts. These players leave foя either “more money” or “silverware” or both, they always have what they went foя.
These players know they go τo these teams τo compete foя places, they can’t always have a starting place. Know also that some of these players were also pivotal τo winning the trophies they won 4 their teams.
What Fabregas played in Arsenal ǂøя two seasons, Anderson will not play it in his career in ManU, yet he has CL and EPL medals. What is̅ d point in playing and playing without success.
However, I despise those that take swipes on Arsenal after being made by Arsene.
