Todays Arsenal News – Nigeria, Airtel and Burton!
Latest Arsenal news by KJ
I’m just going to do a quick recap on some of the news today. There hasn’t been many Arsenal transfer rumours at all but there are definitely some interesting things to talk about:
Arsenal will play the Nigerian National team:
This has already been posted on the website but this is just a quick recap for today. I just wanted to say this is quite a great thing for the club both commercially and regarding the fan base. There is a huge following in Africa and especially Nigeria. It is one of the best games to actually face the Nigerian national team. I fully expect a massive turn out for such a big game. It does pose a dilemma to Arsenal supporting Nigerians. Who do you support; Arsenal or Nigeria?
Arsenal announces partnership with Airtel:
Another bit of news based in Africa. Arsenal have struck a deal with the African mobile network company allowing them to reach their 42 million strong fan base across Africa. Arsenal will mainly use Airtel’s services to promote the aforementioned game against the Nigeria NT as well as promoting the Airtel Rising Stars footballing programme which aims to give youngsters the opportunity to play football in a safe, controlled argument.
Terry Burton assumes the role of Reserve team manager:
As you know, the sad departure of Pat Rice has made a few holes in the Arsenal set up that needed to be sorted out. Steve Bould was promoted as assistant manager taking over from Rice whilst Neil Banfield left his role as Reserve coach to assume the rule as Youth team coach. That hole left in the Reserve coach spot is being assumed by Terry Burton. The 59 year old actually as a history with Arsenal as he captained a FA youth cup team to victory in 1971. He became youth team coach in 1979 before being released in 1987 as reserve coach. Now he returns for hopefully a very successful stint at Arsenal.
That’s the Gunners news for today!

For those people who think podolski would be a flop are just so confused,if so bendtner would be the best striker in the world.also lahm is a right sided player so it would be difficult to play him along with Podolski.
He hasnt even played for us and he is getting condemed.typical Arsenal fans
P.s today is yann M’vila’s birthday

lets compare sponsorship of arsenal and united
Arsenal today unveiled a
£100m sponsorship deal with
Emirates which includes shirt sponsorship and have
the club’s brand new ground
named after it until at least
2021.
Now see uniteds
AIG-£56.8
million over 4 years
As u can see arsenal hav been hasty on that one and hav not tapped the market as they should hav.if steve bould is a good defensive coach, then thats gr8 news…

@Gunner, the reason why we took that option is because the £100m was offered up front. This meant that we were able to put a lot of it into the new stadium, allowing us to get a cheaper loan. So by doing this the loss of revenue over time from Fly Emirates relative to other teams is offset by the money saved by having a cheaper loan.

I did post this yesterday but it didn’t appear?, the reason we are playing in Nigeria is because of David Dein and the work he is doing out their for their football association. He arranged it so he needs to be thanked, still doing a job for Arsenal even though he doesn’t work for us anymore.

The Kenya chap is way of it, how can you compare fan base in Kenya to Nigeria? what an insult! the fan base in Lagos Alone is much more than the population of Kenya. Just look at it from this simple Perspective: I think you are the only Kenya we have heard on this Forum, while there has been a large number of Nigerians on the Forum so logically it tells you they are more Nigerians supporting Arsenal than Kenya. Which Kenya player have ever played for Arsenal? none, so don’t you think by the virtue of the fact that Kanu once played for Arsenal it would logically hold that, Nigeria would have more fans than Kenya. The organizers and Arsenal are not stupid, they would have at least done their research before coming up with Nigeria as the choice site for Arsenal’s preseason. Anyways, come to Nigeria Vs Arsenal Match, i definitely would be going with Arsenal, that’s where my heart lies! sorry super Eagles.

@socrates,true.but 2021 is a long way off,add to that its not just stadium.
Apparently a-on united sponsor is paying 80mill over 4years.so comparing to arsenal, united can earn 100 in half the period.anycase its hard to predict which type of dealing is more efficient overall…

@Gunner:
I would’ve gone for a different deal, then used the community work we do to get subsidies and cheaper loans to build the stadium with a community aspect built in.
But what I know about the nature of the deal was told to me was told during the stadium tour. So there would’ve been other aspects to the deal. Still we’ve the best stadium in Britain and are financially secure which is more than can be said for other teams. Even if it doesn’t prove to be the best deal in a purely financial sense.

@ Gunner are you saying today we have done that deal or the original one?, the original one back before we built the stadium runs out 2013-14 not 2021, from what i understand.

By that i mean i think it can be revued but your right its a worse deal than others specially when you look at Man City £400 million over 10 years means that they end up dwarfing our assets in a couple of years.

if your talking about man city, you can never believe what they say.with so much money in middle east nations, one wud think that man city owner’s money itself cud b involved in that sponsorship deal jus to neutralise ffp rules (thats what i think ).and u wud know wenger wants platini 2 ‘investigate’ the deal.sheikhs family is worth a staggering 500billion pounds.as for arsenal, me too thinks they cud hav got a much bettr deal cos arsenal’s popularity was soaring with invincibles, winning title and so on !!!
