In a shock announcement this morning in the Mail, it seems that Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has been given permission to speak to the Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira, and reports from Italy claim the Vieira is set to agree to a deal.

They say that Inter Milan have given their blessing to the move, and Harry is going to offer Vieira a £35,000 a week pay-as-you-play deal, and a “source close to the player” says he will accept if he is guaranteed regular first team action.

“This is not about money, this is about a chance to play,” the “source” said.

“He has great memories of his time in London at Arsenal but that is in the past.

“The deal is not completed but he has an open mind. He is not afraid of the challenge from Spurs.”

It seems Vieira was asked about his possible return to England last week, and he replied: “I have a year left on my contract with Inter. I want to play week-in week-out to prepare well for the World Cup in South Africa.

“I will definitely know about my future very soon.”

As this story comes from the Daily Mail, i am not sure how likely it is.

When Arsene Wenger was asked about Vieira recently, he said that he should leave Inter Milan, but he thought it very unlikely he would come to play in England.

Wenger’s exact words were: “If I had to bet, I would put my money on another country. It’s complicated for him to come back to this country,”

Whatever does he mean?
