Harry turned down Vermaelen!
The Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp admitted today that he was offered the new Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen while he was still at Ajax, but he decided against buying him. He was then offered to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, and the rest, as they say, is history!
After seeing him win the first two Arsenal Player-of-the-Month awards since his arrival, ‘Arry must be kicking himself that he didn’t look more closely at the offer.
“I was recommended him as a left-back but we were strong in that position,” he told The Mirror. “People who recommended him didn’t speak of him as a central defender.
“But Vermaelen has done very well. He and William Gallas look very solid at the back. He’s very strong at left back and in central defence as well.”

TV Verminator would never play for the scum!! AZ should b humiliated when they come to the fortress. I want a 6-0.
Already occurred.
But he would not be suitable spur.
Like he has stated many times over here in Belgium Vermaelen said: when a man like Wenger from a team like Arsenal calls you, you just go.
I don’t think he ever heard of Redknapp before saturdays game.
walter looooooooool totally agree vermaelen jumped straight into the opportunity for playing for us, plus his played at the emirates for dennis bergkamps ceremony, knows van persie very well as well lol. spurs always try and bring in world class players to their little pity club then end up with clowns like crouch, kranjcar, and the rest of the headless mob. Same way they tried to buy arshavin but he wasn’t interested at all “PITY” lool SPUDS!
it’s ironic really. a huge height difference between him and crouch (one of the tallest *and* best headers in the country and yet crouchy was nowhere near tall enough to beat vermalen. what a beast lol
Still haven’t seen the man make a glaring error in defense. His concentration and purpose are unmatched right now. He is our POY.
Reports like this delight me. It is another comfirmation that Spurs are good for nothing. Can’t wait for their relegation or bankruptcy.
