Uh-Oh – Even Holland agree that Van Persie is exhausted

Posted on November 13, 2011 by admin

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that Robin Van Persie is suffering from fatigue, and he has been desperately trying to find games in which the Dutchman can be rested, without much success it should be added!

But with the international break upon us, Wenger pleaded with the Dutch manager Bert van Marwijk (who has been very unsympathetic towards Arsenal in the past) to use him sparingly during the week away from Arsenal, but Van Persie was duly played for the full 90 minutes against Switzerland on Friday.

The usually prolific striker was largely anonymous during the 0-0 draw and when he did get an easy chance he blew it completely, so Van Marjwick ordered a battery of tests on Van Persie after the game to see what the problem was, and it seems that Wenger was totally right.

Van Marjwick decided that there was no point in the Gunners hitman staying with the squad for the match against Germany in midweek and sent him back to Arsenal. He said: “Robin is at the limit, according to various measurements – for that reason we have to give him a rest.”

Although it’s good that Van Persie will now have a full weeks recovery time, does it look like Arsenal’s talismanic leader may need a longer break to recharge his batteries?

**Van Persie’s first 100 goals for Arsenal – 10 goals per minute! – Brilliant!**

Stop stirring. Wenger spoke with their manager before he even went to tell him that RVP playing only one game is for the best of both parties. Noob

There is no problem. its a friendly so he dont need to play those games but if its a qualifier then wenger has no say. rvp will be ready for the next game

norwich, fulham and wigan are who we play
next. i think it is possible RVP gets a well
deserved rest. and three consecutive games
for chamakh may boost his confidence.
    (van marwijk sceptical)

Norwich next. Keep RVP not the bench, and play Walcott as a striker. He wants it. RVP rests. Everyone wins. If Walcott doesn’t produce by 70mins, send RVP on. If Walcott does, RVP earns a well deserved rest. Prob needs to play against Fulham, then rest again for Wigan. Meanwhile, as Chamakh is not performing, try some others up front. Park has only really had a couple of chances.

It also show RVP that we (AFC) actually car about him as a player … Might be a little more on the “stay at Arsenal” fire for him.

i think we should look for another striker, or at least play Park and RVP together so he has a bit less work to do. Although realistically another striker would be the best option, look at a team like Man city they have Ballotelli, Dezko and Aguero (who are three world class strikers) we only have RVP

football is gone soooooooooo soft. there are guys all over the country working 8 10 even 12 hour days and then doing a 2 hour training session. i know its not even close to to that level but for gods sake, the game i love is dying

    @ edna

Agree it seems a little soft, but what is the alternative? Play RVP, and then he gets injured due to fatigue? I would rather rest him, and have him for the whole season, than lose him for 3 months injured, because we didn’t give his body time to recover. Yes, all players are ridiculously overpaid for the quantity of work they do (2 hours of game time + training), but to be fair, can you play footbal like RVP? I guess they are paid for quality rather than quantity.

Having said all this – if RVP was to play all matches Arsenal competes in …. EPL, Carling, FA, CL … He would be totally exhausted. Remember these guys have nothing left at the end of a match.

footballers get paid more than most people get
in years. if the game really is turning soft, than
players should be forced to be played every game of the season

i’d say that in up coming 3 games park and chamakh should b given more chances than Persie.. he needs to have some rest..
we have good talent but they require a little confidence and they can do bang bang.. look at arshavin what he did wen he first came to arsenal.. bt he is a bit down these days.. he doesnt get lotsa games either..!!
they need some time and some good games aswel..!
