Uh-Oh! Van Persie won’t discuss new Arsenal contract until next summer

Posted on September 26, 2011 by admin

Arsene Wenger said that he doesn’t want another replay of the Nasri saga and intends to try and tie Robin van Persie, Thomas Vermaelen and Theo Walcott down to new contracts this season, as they will all have just 12 months remaining next summer.

But the new Arsenal captain van Persie has admitted that he would rather wait until the end of the season before deciding his future, which is eerily similar to what Nasri said at this time last season.

Before you all accuse me of scaremongering, let me quote the article in the Independent this morning, which includes Robin’s own words.

Asked whether he could give the Arsenal fans any encouragement about his future, Van Persie said: “I still have almost two years [on the existing deal] until 2013. So for the moment that’s fine, but I don’t know. We will have to look. I’m happy with my contract, I’m good. That’s how it is, I can’t say much more. I can’t look into the future.”

Van Persie said he would “maybe” leave negotiations until the end of the season. “The main thing for me is the team and that we play well,” he said. “I do believe you have to look for a right moment to sit down and speak about your own stuff. It’s not only about me, it’s about the team… I don’t think it’s clever to do that during the season.”

We all thought that van Persie was the most loyal of all the Arsenal players until now, but could he really be thinking about leaving next summer if the team doesn’t start winning trophies?

I still think he is a loyal Gooner, he never puts the club in disrepute and has acted as a good role model for others.

He has been giving a lot to Arsenal and is one of the last few “Arsenal Greats”. If he does decide to leave, when we end up outside the top four, I won’t blame him at all. He is a world class player and deserves to be fighting for a good cup.

It does have shades of the nasri deal and they do have the same agent. I think we just have to wait and see and not judge Robin until he says I want to leave and force a move.

Van persie is very loyal to Arsenal. But he knows that current arsenal team lack the depth after depurture of fab and nas. Wenger and board had not brought worldclass replacement . So persie waits till the next window,if they will bought any real players like hazard, gotze or cahil then he gonna pen new contract. Coz he is in a stage of his career where he had to take the decision . He is player and he want to win trophies.

NO SHOCK at all.. Loyalty is not the issue. Is the club responsibility to keep the player. We do need to achieve something in our life, and as a footballer, i believe RVP do need something to achieve the best in his career. If Arsenal can provide something that can help RVP to achieve what his dream of, sure he will stay longer.

he needs to go, he’ll never win major trophies at arsenal. good luck to him. until AFC pay off debt and get a new manager and board 4th place will be deemed as success. as for Theo not signing, that’s good news surely? spend the money on someone with talent?

Totally agree with you mate. Exactly my reaction when I saw this so called news. Am afraid we are all reading way into it and the media is not helping ( to be fair they have not been helping us for ages ! Right on our case they are ! ) RVP is a professional and has got his priorities. We need to focus on the team. Period.for everything … there’s a time.

Unfortunately it is not just about rvp his wage demand and his aspirations. both walfott and rvp have indirectly been talking up moves walcott with his desire to play as a centre forward and both of them with their hopes for more signings of top quality. well lets face it walcott is not going to be a centre forward at any of the top clubs and i think the last window confirmed which market we are shopping at. arteta and his drop in wages the cahill bid the failure to land friedl schwarzer larsson alvarez and others should surely confirm to everyone that players in excess of £10m are out of our reach and others that are free or as good as are snubbing our paltry salary offers. why would you join arsenal on 40k a week when you could join sunderland on 70k neither club has a realistic chance of winning anything. even if we struggled through to the final of the carling cup again this season and come up against say stoke would you fancy our chances anymore than say we had against birmingham last season. lets not forget man citys 2nd team is far better than last seasons and wenger once again appears to reverting back to the kids for this cup.

I don`t for one moment think RVP is in the same mould as Nasri but the tune he is playing has a familiar ring to it.
As I read it (and don`t blame him) he`s giving Wenger the same message as Nasri did ,”get a competitive squad together before I commit myself”. So January has to be the time or there`ll be nothing to talk about in May.

RVP is a world class striker. He wants to win trophies, and a club with those aspirations will pay him the going rate for a player like him. We will either need to match that price £100+ or he will leave for sure. I guess it’s like any organisation – if you know your worth, an your employer takes the piss, and doesn’t pay what you are worth, you’ll look for greener pastures – no matter how much you “love” your current place of employment. I am fan of AW, but he and the board need to wake up to the change in the amount top football players are now paid. It is totally naive to think by just sticking to their guns (not lifting their wage bill) that they can make this problem disappear. It’s like shutting your eyes, sticking your fingers in your ears, and shouting “la, la, la, la”. If we don’t change this policy, there are very dark days ahead for us.

the tag loyal is not enough to carry on the life. RVP deserve much more salary than nasri. when nasri can earn more than 160 k per week why should RVP called himself loyal and stay in arsenal for 80k per week?? there is not much years left for his carrier either. ok if arsenal could win some trophies then u can somehow compromise , but NEITHER TROPHIES NOR MONEY,, .. is there any guarantee that being loyal secures his place in arsenal if he stops scoring goals?? NO WAY. i am the arsenal fan since i knew about football, but the way arsenal are treating their valuable players is not helping the club.

i never thought that kolo toure or nasri will ever leave ..for me they seemed bounded for life with arsenal but …
van persie is in the same league as fabregas and nasri and of course he will leave as well as he is a world class player .Why should he stay with arsenal when we don’t pay competitive wages and we have no ambition … we were told we are MOVING to the EMIRATES so that we can COMPETE with the likes of BARCELONA and REAL MADRID ..was that some BULLSHIT or what ?

RVP has 1 EUFA cup with Feyenord and 1 FA cup with Arsenal.
That’s not enough for a player of his class.
He has been with us for seven years and watched the quality players we had when he came just leave and not get replaced.
The guy deserves something to show before he retires so you have to feel for him.
He does however need remember the amount of time he has been out with injuries and the club has supported him.
Especially if we take into consideration that he was on National team duty when he was badly injured on two occasions.
At the end of the day we have to admit that Gazidis and AW are driving them out with their transfer policy and the average joe’s they are buying.
God Help Us because the board definitely ain’t.

“If you cant beat them join them”… I am not referring to Van Persie possibly moving to Man City next summer… But Arsenal teaming up with Usmanov and joining Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool etc etc in the sugar daddy club… Have to say that AFC are staring down a ‘top 10′ finish currently as opposed to a ‘top 4′ finish!!!

This is another damming indictment of the current regime. when all your best players want to leave you have to ask the reason why? The answer is obvious they are at a club with no ambition and top players didn’t become top players by having no ambition. Van Persie will be off in the summer, if he were interested in a new deal then he’d sign it now not wait and see how the season panned out. Let’s face it what do you honestly think could happen between now and then that would make him change his mind.

  28. Big Gun says:

As I stated in a previous post, RVP has 5 years tops in his footballing career left at this level. When players reach the 32 mark it’s downhill from there. Why do you think Barcelona wanted Fabregas so bad? If Xavi and Iniesta were 10 years younger they would not even consider buying Fabregas. But Xavi, Iniesta are getting on and in one or two years they will start slowing down and losing that special touch. Fab was bought as a replacement for either one of them. They don’t particularly need him now, but soon they will.

RVP has won one FA Cup and one Charity Shield in the 7 years he has been with Arsenal. A player of his calibur trophy room should blind you when you walk in. He has played his heart out for AFC, and has little to show for it, primarily because of the way things have been run higher up in the club. We are all aware of the stingy board and their lack of ambition in doing what’s needed to win trophies. End of the day, playing football is their job. People generally want to make a success of their lives, football is not different. If you are working a dead end job with the same crumby pay and no benefits and another company comes along and offers 3x your current salary, + benefits and GROWTH, no doubt you will take it. RVP is heading into the same situation. If the board do not loosen their coin purse a bit, we will loose him.

As I said, if Arsenal were winning some trophies and were title contenders, and Money City, Chelsea, Madrid etc etc, offered him a better salary, there should be no reason for him to leave. But the fact that we are near the bottom of the table and are nowhere near winning anything soon, gives him a valid excuse for wanting to leave. Loyalty in this circumstance means nothing and I really do not blame him for wanting to go. End of the day, when he looks back on his career, he wants to have something to show for it. The way Arsenal is being managed at the moment, all he will have to show is a cabinet full of cobwebs.

So again, the board need to be addressed on this issue, because if RVP does decide to go, him being the loyalist of players thus far, we know for sure AFC is in big shit.

I think if Arsenal doesn’t get its acte together, RVP should go where his interests are best served. AW and the Board are following their interest which is profits from players and no trophy ambition. So RVP should go where his interests are also served. This is not lack of loyalty. This is common sense et everyman-for-himself.

I dont want him to leave and i dont think he will, he is the last current loyal and imo ‘World Class’ Player we have atm.

That said, i would not hold it against him, he has been at AFC a long time for any footballer at a top level club to be, won no decent trophies, on a sub-par wage for his class. If he wanted to move somewhere else, id wish him all the best and watch with interest, unlike that money hungry, spineless little twirp Nasri

Really don’t know when would we get these evils out of our club along-with their brand of lickers

RVP -really wish u stay with us …but can truly appreiate & understand something called ” ambition ” to be a ” winner ” which unfortunately some clowns in this club has left behind their ass.

Loyalty is not de ISSUE here,WE’RE ALL AWARE OF RVP’S UNSHAKn LOYALTY & GRATITUDE TO ARSENAL!wen a man is nearing his retiremnt Yrs he NEEDS 2 thngs(RVP,in footballn Yrs is nearing His). These 2 thngs are: (1)your life’s legacy to show ur kids WHAT U’VE ACHIEVED IN ALL UR STRUGGLES IN UR LIFE….as a kind incentive 4 dem 2 also Try hard 2 achieve smthng in thier own lifes.AND (2)PENSION Or FUNDS to keep u & ur family going 4 de rest 30-40yrs or so of left in ur life.THESE 2 CANT BE ACHIEVED BY RVP unless Arsenal tackles dem NOW!not nxt season! The 1st issue’s addressed by Relaxing de F**kn RIGID & STRICT TRANSFER BUDGET Policy AND de 2nd Issue by Relaxing de F**kn RIGID & STRICT SALARY WAGE Policy!
UNLESS THESE 2 ARE DONE RVP CANT STAY,and NOBODY shld blame him!
I’m 100% SURE dat Wenger & de Arsenal Board KNOW ds but DONT WANT 2 DO ANYTHNG ABT IT BCOS 4 DEM 4TH PLACE SUCCESS IS REALLY ALL THEY WANT 4 DE CLUB,at least 4 now PERIOD!
