Usmanov trying hard to challenge Kroenke by buying more shares
While all the Arsenal fans are worrying about whether Arsene Wenger is really going to keep his promises and nuy some much-needed stars this summer, there are still some intrigues going on in the boardroom.
Stan Kroenke may have thought he had gained full control by buying out all the other shareholders, but it seems that he has not been as successful as he thought he was.
The Russian billionaire Igor Usmanov, who is determuined to invest in the team to win trophies, is still trying to edge his share up to 30% so that, by law, he will be given full access to the Arsenal accounts.
Today he has bought another 64 shares from an single undisclosed shareholder (at a cost of $1.5m), taking his share up to more than 29%, and he only needs a few more to make himself a real pain in the arse to Silent Stan.
There are still another 5% of shares out there owned by neither Kroenke or Usmanov, and if the Russian can get to them before Kroenke we could have a very interesting situation on our hands!

he is the only way up. football has changed it’s all about being in debt but winning trophies. look at real madrid, man u, chelsea, milan etc. very arsenal supporter who has a job right now wil agree that in this current climate if you don’t produce results you get sacked! with usmanov in charge i guarantee we won’t go 2 seasons without a trophy.WAKE UP GUYS!

If he does get the 30%…what does it mean?…can he give them money(like he offered before) and make them use it on players….what power will he have?
I wish he was in control…and if he was, all I would ask is that he does not behave like man city…that club has NO SOUL…buy sell buy sell…you sit on the bench…you go out on loan…and as a result your football career is more or less over…and you are left trying to find a club that will take you…when you were at the top of your game(the man) at your old club……NO SOUL

most interesting. i originally backed silent stan but have been disappointed by him staying in the shadows and not supporting arsene or the ceo in public.
maybe he will sell on to usmanov and pocket a few million profit. probably for the best if he did.
i also agree with lady bracewell that the chairman (nice gentleman and loyal arsenal man that he is)and one or two others on the board are seriously past their sell by date and are out of touch.
maybe usmanov will buy stan’s shares and the american will pocklet a few million profit for doing very little.
why not. the players do it.

@BOB. WE DON’T NEED SOUL. LIKE I SAID THESE DAYS IF YOU DON’T PRODUCE YOU GET SACKED. MAN CITY HAS NO SOUL BUT THEY FINISHED ABOVE ARSENAL WHICH ‘HAS SOUL’. THE TRUTH IS THE BELLAMYS FINALLY GOT FOUND OUT THAT THEY BELONG TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP. WE DON’T NEED SOUL WE NEED RUTHLESSNESS. I BET YOU CHELSEA, MAN U , MAN CITY WILL WILL AT LEAST A TROPHY NEXT SEASON

I just hope Kroenke gets sick of this and decides to sell to usmanov somewhere down the line making usmanov our owner. We need to winning trophies paying big wages and making big transfers. When people say “oh but then we will be in debt”, look at United! In debt but favourites to win the title and the season hasn’t even began! Also since we are trophyless and do not pay big wages/transfer prices, what hope do we currently have of making stars pick us over the likes of City and United.

Usmanov is a hypocrite. Only a few weeks ago he stated he wanted a multitude of owners of shares and supported fans owning shares. Since then he’s been buying up as many of those fans shares as he can get his grubby hands on to take us to a duopoly. Not sure you can trust this guy further than you could throw him, and he’s a big man so that ain’t gonna be far.

Can’t believe we have TWO multi BILLIONAIRES as our major share holders and we the fans pay the highest ticket prices for any football team on the planet but yet we can’t meet players wage demands or buy a player at 30 million because apparently we can’t compete! Get out of my sight! If you own a business u have to invest in the best to make that business a success and in this business cause that’s what we have become success is not coming 4th and making a huge profit! I’d rather make a small profit and win trophies and get excited about the best players in the world signing for arsenal!! Teams are laughing at us n don’t give me this shit wait 5 years and we’ll be winning things cause the way we are run! Fifa fair play won’t have that much affect! Iv researched the actually rules and there is a few loop holes!! We are in serious danger of slipping out of the top 4 never mind looking to win the league!!!

We need someone who can spend big money on star players not stingy Kroenke, Wenger and the Board. Infact if this guy gets more power in the boardroom he could give Wenger a happy slap so he can wake up

I like Usmanov and I’d love it if things could change so that we could afford a player worth more than 20 million. Just one! Not buying recklessly like City. Just being able to afford a needed player of ‘excessive’ value. As things point, there are things to be hopeful about for the future, but at present time, Arsenal is in a bad situation. At least there are people that care for the club, Usmanov seems to care and I hope he really does. Let’s see…

Usmanov has obviously more “balls” and sense then Kroenke…
They ( the board ) don’t want to see him getting involve in the club more deeply…
Because like every Russian football owner, he will spend with eyes closed in order to bring big players and win all the trophies possible…
In our current situation, we have nothing to loose… I would rather see Usmanov getting access to the books and cause a total chaos…!!
WE WILL NOT HAVE A DESCENT SEASON…!!! Wenger is dreaming if he thinks that we are going anywhere with this squad…
We are, according to the last season, already behind Man City, Man U ( we knew that ) and Chelsea ( I thought that we had closed the gap )…
Loosing our 2 best players is a catastrophe, but still, I do not see any sign of panic in our camp…
I do not know if Pat Rice still his assistant…!!! He needs something fresh and new ideas…
The core of the problem is in the fact that Wenger got to much power and freedom from the beginning… Now we are contemplating the fruits of bad management and sometimes careless tactics…!!
Have you noticed that we are always linked with an incredible number of players, but nobody gets signed… At the end we get the same Wenger excuse: ” We could not find quality, but our squad is strong enough”…!!! Yeah right, we have the best players at their positions, so we don’t need to add … Deluded human being…!!
Is he taking us for fools or idiots ??? I mean , at the end of the day we are paying his salary and the wages of the players…!!!
It is a total disgrace that our club is being destroyed and trashed… And there is nothing we can do to stop it…
Well may be boycotting the Emirates which could be a good alternative, but it might too much for some fans…

The done is simple… In order to have a successful business you need to invest…
So if they are treating Arsenal like a business, they got it wrong so far…
Again it also depends on their definition of success…!!!

Kroenke has been a BIG spender with every team he’s owned. I don’t want our club to have the same debt issues that the other clubs owned by Russian billionaires and sheiks.

It’s like swinging from one dictator to another. There are no guarantees as to how a new power can change things for the good or for the worse.
We can’t be sure that Usmanov will invest in the team with players rather than protect his own interests knowingly well that Arsenal’s exposure in Asia would increase commercial activity and sales. We all know from Kroenke’s history that he is a terrific leader when it comes to pushing commercial attention to his own teams and maybe Usmanov sees Kroenke’s plans as a means to getting richer! This is just speculation but one has to always consider “making money” as a major motive or drive.
The most salient questions to me is, “Even if Usmanov gets to 30% shares and gets to have a say in accounts, would Stan Kroenke owning over 65%, be bullied into making decisions from a shareholder with less? How much influence would he really have?
Hopefully, it is a good sign, but to me it smells fishy and just another public stunt to win more people over with false information and hope. You never know it might be enough to get him what he really wants…….

Usmanov is not the solution to Arsenal’s problems. In fact, I think the club would be in bigger trouble with him in control. He is not a “straight shooter”" and you can’t be fooled by what he says to make himself more popular with the fan base – while he desperately struggles to counter Kroenke. He’s just telling you all what you want to hear. Instead of working with the majority owner to improve the club, he is poisoning the waters, creating a board room conflict when that’s the last thing we need. Kroenke out maneuvered him and he can’t stand it. Usmanov’s loyalty is to Usmanov, not to Arsenal. Kroenke, on the other hand, is an honest business man with a corruption free past and a track record of dealing with fans in professional and direct, if not always popular, manner.

This guy is richer than Abramovic. He just overtook the Chelsea Mogul. He offered to pay for the club’s debt in form of shares so that the club would be free to purchase players but the board refused.

Usmanov was willing to give the club a 100 million from his pocket to the club to help clear debts or player recruitment but the club turned him down and refused him a place on the board due to the fact his way of doing things is different from the board. He would be the best person to take arsenal foward, kroenke is more like the current board……….BACKWARDS

Do the math! Usmanow paid $1.5M for 64 shares, thus he paid 15% more than the overvalued market price of 13K pounds. Isn’t it a clearer sign of intent than Kroeneke’s single visit in Emirates?
And Sean,
Where did you find credible information that Kroeneke is a big spender? I live in US and my sources of information paint completely different picture. All Kroeneke’s teams linger around half-table and complain about lack of money for making a push higher.

Abdi k, you’re clearly a glory hunter so go and ‘support’ someone like City. And in future, have some respect for our club’s most succesful ever manager.
Wenger lives and breathes Arsenal, you’ll never find a more committed manager, who has the best long-term interests of a club in his heart.
Other managers are happy to blow millions and millions for short-term glory, because they know they won’t be at their clubs when the debts finally take their toll. Anyone advocating huge debt in order to obtain silverware, really doesn’t understand the probable consequences…….it really isn’t rocket science.
I, like every true Arsenal fan, want to see success on the pitch, but I never want any manager to risk the fuure of our great club.
Arsenal for life !

Hope Usmanov gets on Board and takes charge to do something about the current stupid situation at the club.. Cesc leaving, Nasri leaving, and while other teams are getting their new signings to strengthen their teams, that clown indecisive manager Wenger still NOT buying top players we need. Which defender is coming? Still nothing done.
I doubt Usmamov will sit still and tolerate this nonsense or pussy-footing around!

So far Kronke has done and said nothing to make me believe he is good for Arsenal. He’s spent nothing and promised nothing, so it’s great Usmanov is trying to challenge him. If nothing else is should at least it keep him on his toes and not let him totally take the piss out of the club.
