Van Basten: Arsenal is where Van Persie belongs
Despite links to Italy, Spain and Russia, as well as Manchester, Robin Van Persie has effortlessly continued with his astonishing form for Arsenal with another stunning performance, goal and pair of assists.
In response to the speculation, fellow Dutch legend and former Netherlands manager Marco Van Basten told the Sunday Mirror, “’I still think Arsenal are the most beautiful club in England. At Man City and Chelsea, they will never have that class and style… Arsenal have the most amazing stadium, they have a style of play, they have a beautiful shirt – in every way I consider Arsenal as the ultimate football club. It is the club where Robin belongs.”
He added, “Arsenal are a really big club. With a few more top-quality players around him, Robin will improve his chances when it comes to winning things and being successful.” He may be suggesting that Wenger and the Arsenal board should sign new players but from recent evidence, the team already looks close to being able to compete at the top once more. One way that Van Persie is more likely to stay is that his teammates step up and play to his level. In the space of a few months, this transition from a ‘one man team’ to a group of fully-contributing players is now complete.
Van Persie certainly seems to relish the attention piled onto him, so a big name signing could in fact steal some of the limelight. Back-up players coming into the club may be understandable, with injuries potentially arising at some stage, but this could well be a case of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ for Wenger.
A wage increase is the first priority in order to keep Van Persie and this will surely materialise. If the run does continue, is there really any possible reason why he would leave for a club without the “class and style” of Arsenal?

well i guess it’s fair 2 say Mr van basten is an arsenal fan but the reality is 150-200,000 thousand a week n RVP retires with us, any less and i won’t blame him 4 leaving but i WILL blame gazidis, kroenke n Hill-wood n so let’s put this way 4 u 3 jack as#es

Let’s hope this does not turn into another Fabnas situation. I love RvP, ever since he first joined Arsenal I knew there was something special about him. I would hate it if he had to go. We must be realistic here and understand a player wants to look back on his career and see many achievements…he has been with Arsenal for 8 years, and only won 2 trophies..the F.A cup and Charity Shield if I’m not mistaken. So the man is hungry for trophies as any professional footballer should be. He’s 28 years old, moving on too.
I honestly think if Arsenal does not win anything this season, we might see him go. The way we are playing now, we have a great chance of winning something though. We must just keep up the fight. Every game now is essential. I would love it if RvP stayed and became a true Arsenal legend like Bergkamp, Adams etc. If he can keep the fabulous form he is in and keep scoring, we will see a trophy and I’m sure he will renew his contract. Also please board, bump up the man’s salary.

Now that we have positive atmosphere around the club he is probably sitting in his hole somewhere and waiting for something bad to happened to the club – Where is the positive articles pushing for keeping the fans together and supporting the club to the CL spot and maybe winning something this year I mean anything is possible…
Bet you guys that we will not hear from him soon…
Anyway hoping that Van Persie stays for more years to come – We Love you Arsenal

if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – as true as this may be, we need to be realistic. This is football, injuries do happen. Recent seasons we have not really been prepared enough to deal with injuries to our top players. RVP is outstanding this season and may this carry on. But I think we still need to make provisions for the unforeseen. My Wenger, not long ago, said this is no time to be complacent and Mr Van Basten is right, a few more quality additions will ensure we are in a good place. I mean we are not a complete article yet but we are playing fantastic! But we need to win something soon to firstly keep our quality players and attract more( won’t go into details of who we would like to see as a gooner, we would be here forever lol ) Arsenal is the ultimate club and we now just need to tweak a few minor things I.e wages structure as I believe football has changed and we nneed to adapt. I have faith in Mr Wenger and lads ( the team ). Arsenal for life !!!

RVP is arsenal through and through ..he loves the club and will not be tempted away…UNLESS wenger fails to once again buy some top quality players to once again challenge for the trophies. I dont agree that if it aint broke dont fix it…football doesnt work like that…contingency planning is vital….man utd won the league and fergie bought young, jones and degea. I am impressed with arteta, jenkinson in particular and we have some cover when sagna and jack return. But we are unbelievably short of extra firepower if RVP gets injured (and history suggess he will at some point in the season).
So the situation could be one of lost opportunities (like before) if wenger fails to buy a striker in january.
Wenger wont buy….he will argue we are 3rd 4th or 6th etc and say we have won nearly every match blah blah blah…..but he wont consider the worst case scenario if RVP gets injured. For the sake of 10 to 20 million (peanuts in the modern game) it could mean the difference between winning one of the cups and nothing.i would personally take defoe if he was available…even wenger could afford to splash that amount required to buy a deadly striker like him. The league or champs league is way beyond us….wenger knows that and is content not to invest for the pursuit of those trophies.It suits him and his “sustainability” mindset to not follow chelsea and man citys methods of producing a team to challenge for the big trophies. But he should be totally aware that RVP may not be prepared to put up with a lack of ambition that the manager has shown in recent seasons.

tbh i think the important factor is getting rid of the dross, bringing in some talent and winning a cup.
realistically Arsenal should make the top 4 and win a domestic cup, they certainly have the fighting spirit to do so!

Nice words from van Basten, will do Arsenal a lot of good to pursuad van Persie to stay.
I agree with him though, Arsenal needs a couple more quality signings around him.
Hazard, M’vila and Jovetic would be nice
Sell Bendtner, Denilson, Squillaci, Djourou (if from doesn’t improve), Almunia. Could combine for maybe 20 mill, would finance a move for M’vila
Sign:
Jovetic can play RW, LW, AMC and ST – will most likely end up at Chelsea – 20 to 25mil
Hazard LW – will most likely end up at Real Madrid – 25 to 40mil
M’vila MC and DMC – is almost the most important signing though, African cup means we loose Song and Frimpong…. – a very good chance Arsenal could sign this guy – 15 to 20mil
Poss another CB if Djourou is sold – Lovren or Vertonghen – a good chance of Vertonghen at Arsenal – 8 to 12mil
Hamsik would be a direct replacement for Nasri, – will most likely end up at Man city or inter (depends on where Sneijder will be) – 20 to 30mil
Although predicting any transfers Arsenal make is virtualy impossible haha so I just wasted my time….
But thats what I would do on fifa 12 hahaha

Yeh i know we wont buy all that lol. But I doubt Goetze or Hazard will be at arsenal. The cost of those two is too great. Arsenal are not a team who pays “silly” money for anyone. Goetze and Hazard is “silly” money. But then again so is hamsik….
All the players I suggested are similarish to your suggestions hamsik – Goetze. Jovetic – Podolski. Vertonghen – M’vila and we agree on Hazard lol as does every Arsenal fan.
Anyways, only time will tell. I think we won’t sign anyone haha

Along with Jack Wilshires commitment to the club, we are now realising just what the cream of footballers think of our club..isnt it just great??????
