Van Persie – Arsenal have to buy a “number of players” but not English!

Posted on June 12, 2011 by admin

Robin Van Persie doesn’t think that the present Arsenal squad can consider themselves as title contenders, not after making a has of it at the end of most seasons, and he thinks that Arsene Wenger needs to bring in a “number of players” to make the Gunners into real trophy contenders again.

He said: “Every year it goes wrong in an identical way and that is frustrating. When you look at results in the last years, Arsenal shouldn’t be talking about winning the league because too many times that has gone wrong.”

“But I believe with the signing of a number of players, we should be in there competing for the prizes.”

He has also complained about the party culture of English players, and worries how they can be real professionals if they stay out ’til all hours of the morning.

He said: “For me it’s very important to be having breakfast every morning with my two children.

“And that wouldn’t be possible if you were hanging about in a discotheque all night.

“When I see some English footballers who are out until three in the morning, then I can only conclude that they are invariably finished at 33.

“I have made another choice and that’s to be doing what I love the most, playing football.”

Van Persie will be 28 in seven weeks time. Hopefully he will be playing for Arsenal for at least another five years by his reckoning……

Well said Robin, this partying culture is a disaster and so unprofessional. Young blokes need to sow their wild oats that`s a fact and in a world of `twitter` and `facebook` self discipline is very hard. Nevertheless if you chose to play football at the highest level you have to have a code of behaviour. I`m glad social networking was not around in my`salad days`.

    Good one RVP,
I agree with u and another thing what are English player is “brainless” if u look of them 99% they make idoit actions like to sleep with there friends wives, sleeping with there grand mother, group s..s and so on, and it can put club underpresure unnesasary like what we see before the 2010 world cup scandal and they alot of the same issue in every player of them.
We need to be have first and we will get the goal. I pray and hope all our young english player at Arsenal to beware of that and take a knowlage from the like of RVP and his examples to stay in touch with wright manner the rest of there lives.

You’re also an idiot Yippeee!! comment on the frigging article which I think is quite important for every Arsenal Supporter, Persie deserves the Captain armband he has got the passion for the club, and also understands football isn’t all about money, plus, even with the injuries he scored 18 goals in our yo-yo like season which is quite remarkable. Up Arsenal, Up Arsene, Up Persie.

RVP be careful dont bite the hand that feeds you! Britain is where you live and is where you collect your wages and it was not that long ago that you was a tearaway at Feyernood in danger of blowing your career, again for mouthing off.

Class players, distance themselves from spouting off in the media, you just would not have seen Dennis Bergkamp involving himself with some of the comments you have been attached to recently.

My advice is get your head down, keep your fitness and focus on your football, not your team mates actions.

@afc by birth So because he is playing in a foreign country he is not allowed to speak his mind. You don’t know the full facts of the interview, but can only read what the media prints. So what gives you the right to criticise the most loyal player at AFC? Don’t let nationalism rule your brain. The headline to this blog is also very misleading – van Persie never said 1. that Wenger must buy or 2. that he must not buy english. wenger himself said he is going to buy and van Persie merely said that that was the correct thing to do. What van Persie allegedly said about the english footballers generally applies to the youngsters who become stars too soon, including our wilshire, who has gotten himself in trouble by partying until 3 in the morning. Walcott seems to be an exception. Other Arsenal (or former arsenal) players in this category include Pennant and Bentley

  12. Kaveh Binesh says:

I know you love to get hits on your articles. But could you do it without making our players look bad. Van Persie criticised young English players and their lifestyle. He did not say Arsenal should not buy English players. I know that you have used quotation marks for the bit that is actually quote, and the bit that is your sensationalist conclusion. It’s kind of a cheap trick. I paid attention to this because I had read the quotes somewhere else before, but someone who does not know about what Van Persie actually said might not be able to distinguish between your input and his, as it is clear from the comments.

This is not the first time I have seen these types of headline on your blog, while I appreciate you posting articles for us fans and the club you love everyday, I won’t be coming back if misleading headlines is the way forward with this blog.

VP is bang on the money when he talks about English players.
There are to many foul mouth womanizing piss head thugs mixed in with our so called English top players, just take a look at Man u for a start.
And some people still think we have a chance to win the world cup every time it comes around with these type of players.

@afc bybirth: f* off. Who do you think you are to tell people how to behave?
If RvP wants to say his experience with English binge/fringe culture, who do you think you are to tell him he should shut up?
You, kid, are a disgrace to England, and seem to only feel good when you can boss people around.
Well, go down to earth. There are other football league in the world, other countries than Uk. But respect is border-less and you should respect people, not act like a colonial a*hole who seems to put himself high up the respectability ladder without even climbing the first step.
RVP has the right to say what he thinks. And I agree. English think they are all gentleman. They all forget it comes from French word gentilhomme, and that other countries people actually have the right to talk. It’s nit 1800 anymore.

    SELL VAN PERSIE.
Once again too much talk. Every season (6) is the same thing we rely on vp to be our main scorer and leader from the front and every season he’s injured, he’s the biggest failure (mr unreliable) , I don’t think he’s any better since we signed him. Ok he scored a few pointless goals last season, not enough winners, and he has still never scored 20 league goals which is what we need at least, from our main striker, if we want to even think about winning the league.
The most OVERRATED player in the league, mr so slow plod along, flatter to decieve, paperweight weak, (chocolate foot?, what about the left) and his free kicks… Always oooo past the post but never a goal shut da f#*k up….
Yeah I said it vp is shite and we need new strikers sell him.

RVP Is right! I just cannot fathom the English! Best stadia, great support! Sure, they know how to party, but hey, they cannot play football though! I’ve been an Arsenal supporter since 1963, and over this period, these are the players that impacted on me during this period: Bobby Charlton,Trevor Brooking, Glenn Hoddle, Paul Gascoigne and now Jack Wilshere. When I saw these guys for the first time, you just had to admit there is/was an Un-English and a more ‘continental’ aura about them. I don’t now whether less hard partying will produce more of the likes of Charlton, Brooking and the others mentioned. SAF thinks it’s because kids are only allowed to train 90 mins daily in England I think it’s just natural inability to keep up with the requirements called for to produce another Bobby Charlton! As for The Arsenal, they certainly how to play football! The Arsenal Board does not have an appreciation the work Wenger can do! They need to let go of the purse strings and give proper funds! Everybody around the world knows that what is happening at Arsenal is because of shareholder greed and not Wenger! Only the English believe that Wenger is to blame! Like with their joke of a national side, they blame Capello! C’mon guys get real! Confront the truth! The English can’t play football and the appeal of the EPL is purely as a result of foreign players plying their trade there! If foreigners had to be stopped playing in England tomorrow, you’d have 38 league fixtures of Stoke v. Stoke. And the only reason I’ve been following English ‘footie’ is that the only ‘footie’ magazine in the 60′s I had access to was the ‘Shoot’ football magazine, an English publication! Watch tonight’s Euro U21 v. Spain fixture to understand why I don’t rate English footballers, other than those I can count on one hand!

I`m a great believer in concentrating on one thing at a time, once that`s knocked over move on to the next, but quickly. Don`t think too much that should have already been done for you by others ,you just endorse it.
