Van Persie Shines In Free Role For the Netherlands
Robin Van Persie managed to finish a game for the Netherlands for a change, without succumbing to any injuries, and scored four goals in the 11-0 win against San Marino. However the goals did not come from his usual position as a striker.
The Metro reports that Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk asked Van Persie to play in a free role behind striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. After the game he said: “This game I had a free role. That was fun. But at Arsenal I play as the striker, that’s what I do every day.”
But he said that he wasn’t sure if the experiment will continue, saying: “It’s the coach’s decision. We must judge it match by match.”
It will be interesting to see whether Arsene Wenger will also try Van Persie in a free role or if he will continue to rely on him as the main striker. It has been said that Walcott was originally a striker and with Park Chu-Young and Chamakh in the team the possibility exists for someone else to be the focus of the attack.
Chu-Young himself did well in the international game South Korea v Lebanon, which ended 6-0, in which he scored three goals. Wenger will be pleased to see his forwards scoring so freely and will hope it translates to their form for Arsenal.

Would LOVE this line-up. Solid first team if you ask me. van Persie would strive in that free role and Walcott’s pace and finishing would be put to better use up front I think.

AW needs to study the tapes of the matches where the players have excelled and make adjustment to our game as neccessary. We need to be faster, more direct at goal and decisive in our approach to kill games off. Never again to the mauling at Old Trafford. The effects on the health of the teeming Arsenal fans across the Globe are better imagined.

Hapefully RVP comes back with loads of confidence now after the penalty miss at united,if he can score a couple against swansea next weekend would do him and the team so much good, as Wenger says our season starts against swansea, let’s start getting some wins on the spin and earn these points!

@Dixon I think you should take over from AW when he’s done. That is the exact same squad I would play, maybe switch Arteta with Walcott and on the left play Miyachi, get some width going. But that is definately one of the formations I would use. Also give Frimpong and Chamberlain some game time. I think AOC will be better than Walcott. Djorou, Traora, Jenkinson, Squillaci are our weak players.

How much a player shines depend largely on wheither he is playing in the right position. If r.v.p will/can play well behind a striker. Then wenger should into it. Not only r.v.p. Walcott,Bentdner,ashavin e.t.c. had also complain about their current position.

Flairplay is missing one key person, and that is SONG or FRIMPONG although Anthony Armstrong looks to be a much more convincing one. There is always a problem that Wenger has a lot of love or believe in his Diaby, Sabstian and Arshavin. Don’t be surprise to fix them in and leave out key players.
But there is always need to have plan A, B and C. Plan A is any attacking plan esp for home games and in search for a goals is last minutes incase you need some, while plan be is to condense the attack of the opponents in case of teams like Bacelona’s in first half and away games before you attack at a later stage, and plan C is just to enjoy the game with trials of the teens and creating a new formula etc.

Ive been hoping that Arsenal sign a top notch striker for this particular reason. RVP is obviously more suited(physically atleast) if he plays in a free role as against as a centre forward. His performance clearly underlined that. But Park is probably not the world class striker that we need(hope he proves me wrong)

I’ve often thought about RVP’s ability as a free roamer, or the number 10 behind the striker in the vein of Bergkamp. Maybe we can put Park or Theo up front as the striker, but who would play right wing? Chamberlain??
In the end, at least in the beginning, I think this will be Wenger’s preferred 1st team.

@Hard Ogura: I have left out Song coz I believe Wilshere is an equally good ball winner if not better with more pace than Song..quite evident from his displays against the likes of Barca..even Capello thinks so!!

I think ramsey has played too many games already and shoudl be given a rest. Van persie should be given his prefered position behind the striker.Park looks a good out and out striker.

Delighted with the new signings for us. Whether they are panic buys or not doesn’t matter, Arsene still managed to buy players for every required position that we needed, so hats off to him. Hope the rumours about Eden Hazard in January are true- if they are yet another reason to be hopeful for Gooners! Within the next 12 months I would like to see M’Vila, Cahill, Hazard and Gotze arrive and get rid of the useless dead wood in the squad (i.e Djourou, Squillaci, Almunia and maybe Rosicky), then we can be challenging on all fronts again! In Arsene We Trust!

Play Walcott up top. Look at United last year. Played Hernadez up top as a pacy man lying on the last defenders shoulder and Rooney the football dropping deep and scoring. Id play a similar thing with Arsenal. We still in my opinion need another world class stirker. A big man to score headers and pla Aretea wide.

That should be our starting line up, arteta proved that he can play in the wide positions at everton and wilshere can come out wide too, so they can swap during the games to confuse defenders on who is pulling the strings in midfield and what sort of passes are going to come out. Although have walcott up front on his own may be costly because of his size up againt the likes of kompany and vidic, he has TOO MUCH pace for them, and with the creativity from midfield RVP, we can put passes though opposing teams for him to latch onto. also, we are given SO MUCH space outside the box because teams expect us to put the balls through and play through them, so with van persie playing a little further back, and arteta coming in from the left, we should shoot from outside the box aswell, not talking 35 yards, but 20 yard belters from RVP, arteta, wilshere and santos would win us so many games, and its not like they cant shoot is it?
