Van Persie thanks Wenger for making him a star – and Walcott for assisting!
Robin Van Persierecently celebrated his 100th goal for Arsenal, and was only too happy to admit that it was Arsene Wenger’s influence that pointed him in the right direction to become an awesome goalscorer.
He said: “I’m so thankful for having met him because he made a big difference in the way of seeing, looking at football.
“I was 20 and he said, ‘Why are you not a top player yet?’ I said, ‘Because of this, this and this.’ He told me to think about it.
“Then, a couple of weeks later, he asked me, ‘Are you a top player?’ I said I didn’t think so and he told me to think about it.
“I started to realise and then he gave me a little bit of advice about certain actions that I did.
“For example, I made a couple of little mistakes in a game. He told me that a top player doesn’t do those actions.
“I started to think about the conversation. It was a conversation that only lasted for five minutes, but it was a conversation that went on for a year because every couple of weeks he was referring back to it.
“He was showing me proof as well. I was taking it on and then it was up to me to find my answers. I was finding my own answers and that’s how he helped me big time.”
Theo Walcott provides many assists (29 to be precise) of Van Persie’s first 100 and it feels like more to the Dutch international. He said: “After every single goal, people ask me, ‘Who gave the assist?’ I just say, ‘Who do you think?’ We have that connection. I know what he is going to do, which is very important.
“It’s vital to have a player around me, as a striker, who knows where I move, how I move, do I want the ball into feet, do I want it behind. He knows where to find me. Stuff like that is vital.”
When Van Persie scored his 100th Arsenal goal against Bolton in September, it was Walcott that provided the cross again, and the record breaker wanted the England international to share in his happiness.
“It was just a big honour and I asked Theo to celebrate with me. I had my history with Arsenal Football Club,”
At least Van Persie appreciates what Arsene Wenger and Arsenal have done for him, but will it be enough to persuade him to sign a new contract in the summer?

Thanking wenger and theo might be a way of showing appreciation and strong will to stay however life continues elsewhere. I feel persie wants d fans and arsenal faithful to know that he remembers his source to stardom. If he leaves eventually we should not feel hurt. he’s paid his dues while wit us. we’ll move on.We at arsenal have time now to plan ahead of his eventual departure. We love you RVP unlike dat ashri who dumped us 4 shityy.

RVP – Thanks for acknowledging all those facts. A humble guy you are from my standpoint. Now the only way to show your profound appreciation is to put pen to paper as regards your contract with the club.

well, good guys, he was celebrating 100goals for the club for fssakes! what was he supposed to say?, i think it is perfectly ok for him to thank the people that have helped him achieve this milestone in that context without reading too much into it. Good heavens, can you all get a life.

Thanking wenger.is this not a fire wall? is this not a working away thanks? all this players are not worth to be trust at all.now he refused to sign new contract and he has never been useful for complete season ever since he joined arsenal.

Sorry, he’s gone. It’s sounds like a very ‘past tense’ speech. That to me means, in RVP’s mind, he’s already left. Shame. I guess we will wait and see.
