Vermaelen gives Wenger something to smile about
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has not had too much good news this season, but central defender Thomas Vermaelen has given him something to smile about today by signing a new contract.
Vermaelen, 25, is currently absent with injury, but is looking to make his comeback in the next week or so. This morning he has signed a new long term contract at the Emirates and had the following to say to the clubs official website, “I always had the intention to stay here. I feel there is a big belief in me from the club, from the boss and from the fans and that is one of the reasons why I stayed. Arsenal is a fantastic club. We have great supporters, we’re doing well financially and we are playing with some quality young players now and they will develop, which is very good for the future.”
Arsene Wenger has had little to cheer this season, but today’s news could be just the tonic that he and Arsenal need to push on for the rest of the season.
Wenger was over the moon at the news and said, “We are absolutely delighted. Our plan is always to sign top quality players and with Thomas extending his contract, we have done just that. Thomas is a special player, who has always made a huge contribution on the pitch and we are looking forward to him being a part of our future.”
Arsenal will be hoping that Robin van Persie will now be persuaded to sign a new deal after the news about Vermaelen’s contract extension today which ties the Belgian to the club until June 2015.

Fantastic cant wait to see him back on the pitch , vidic aside he is hands down the best defender in the league . Hoping this will help plans to sign 1 or 2 of his belgian team mates . Great news, was thinking the worst . Good to see a talented defender so commitied to arsenal when really hed walk into any team in the premier league . Mert and Verm at the centre not bad is it?

Shout out to Verm for showing faith in a club that backs him 100%. Yes admin, hopefully this does have some influence on rvp to pen a new deal. Now for song, vp, vert, van der wiel, and Douglas-costa. Those 3 would make an immediate impact and bring us chaser to the top 3

We haven’t really bought any top class players to be honest..the Ox is probably the only decent signing we have made lately. Anyway I’m used to Wenger and his empty promises by now. Let’s hope in Jan he walks his talk.

van persie should eithter sign in BY january or be stripped of his captaincy n sold 2 the highest bidder, the cu*t is injured every 2nd f*ckin game n cost us the barca match then after being injured 4 90% of the time his been with us, he decides 2 stall on a deal n say “i’ve been faithful 2 arsenal 4 a very long time, 8yrs” well f*ck u RVP, u can go n sit in some1 else’s treatment room n a more & faithful captain like bacs sagna or TV5 who won’t n don’t doubt arsenal or it’s team 4 a second, no matter what
