Vermaelen – I don’t need to be pampered!
Thomas Vermaelen played 84 minutes of Arsenal’s win over Bolton last night, and only came off because just before the end because he felt that he had a slight calf strain.
He thinks that he doesn’t need to be molly-coddled and eased back into the Arsenal first team, and thinks that players that think they do are just fooling themselves into being pampered.
“I feel great,” he said: “I trained with the team and I felt good straight away so I felt confident.
“Personally I don’t believe in needing games to regain sharpness. If I come back from injury after a long time I don’t believe in coming back and getting rhythm.
“I think it is just in your head and a mental thing – if you are a football player you have to be there straight away. That’s why I wanted to play today and I think it’s good.
“It was a good game for us, we fought hard and it was a deserved win for us I think.”
It’s easy to say that your ready for the first team straight away, but Arsene Wenger knows more than anyone that some players need to be rested and brought back into the team slowly. Why take risks when a player hasn’t been tested at full speed for seven months (like Vermaelen!)

Just like a plane is meant to fly, a player is meant to play. If he says he is fit on Saturday, play him. Also, I don’t see anything wrong in playing Park and VP10. Wenger could try some other formations instead of the boring and predictable one he is using now.

Its great to hear that he is eager to do battle, we have definately missed him but I would ease him into the squad rather than throw him in the deep end. Our defence is only starting to find some stability and I would be cautious about making a major change to it. Verm is a good defender

Verm being injury Prone is complete horsesh*t. He is the type of leading centerback like Tony Adams was. He doesn’t need to come back to supporters questioning his foundation as a footballer (i.e his body) The question is whether it will be Kos or mert teaming up with Verm, he is one of our core players. Squid more or less has been pulled from the 1st team, it’s just that we needed to rest 3 centre backs (per, kos & Djou) for the weekend(there was no guarantee TV5 was gunna be ready for a start against the chavs). And ignasi was needed to play at left back as we have little cover there. He only played because he was the one remaining option.

@ Gooner Luke, I know you are so obsessed with Vermaleen but I don’t think it is intelligent compare him in whatever way with Jesus. I think that is going a little over board!

In the last 20 mins of Chelsea game use Verminator as DM and pair Song with Ramsey/Arteta in midfield. This will provide us the option to use Robin,Park and Gervinho altogether upfront at the same time. I believe Arsenal attack and defense looks solid with this formation.

VERMINATOR!!!! More guts thans sense,gotta love that. Better job for the manager to be reigning players in(when for their own good) than trying to motivate them to get out there constantly.
