Walcott close to signing new Four-Year deal at Arsenal?

Posted on February 05, 2012 by admin

Robin Van Persie is not the only Arsenal striker that is approaching the last year of their contract at the Emirates, but for some reason Arsenal fans haven’t been so bothered about whether Theo Walcott extends or not!

This is obviously due to his inconsistent performances, but after yesterdays game perhaps the fans may be a bit happier to hear the news that he is planning to re-sign.

According to today’s Mirror the talks between Arsenal and Walcott have been progressing smoothly over the last few weeks, and they are close to agreeing a four-year extension at around £80,000-a-week for the England international.

They also report that Liverpool are monitoring the talks in the hope that Walcott would become available in the summer, but are set to be disappointed. the question is; Will Arsenal fans be disappointed if he DOES sign the new deal? Or perhaps it may help persuade Van Persie to stay as well?

He was fantastic yesterday, I would be delighted if he renews his contract. The team is short and we wouldn’t want to see another great potential leave.

80k per week aint bad for walcott..he shouldt hesitate on signing a new contract…board should also offer van persie a bumper deal to secure our future..!

Provided he will improve nd concentrate more on the pitch, i have no problems with that. What of RVP? I hope he follow suit soon.

Now just offload arshavin and get hoillet on a bosman/(hopefully) see ryo breaking in and we’re set on the wings for years. If we get a good striker and mid in the summer, the side’s gonna be great. Gourcuff/Granero+Podolski/Suarez

TW was very effective yesterday and played a huge role in our wing driven onslaught…. But not enough consistency over a season to call him top class, neither is his finishing particularly great….

whist one would not sell him however, not sure if the reported £80k per wk is justifiable for someone still not yet complete as a player. This is where afc often get it wrong as we would baulk when the likes of edu, nasri and flamini et al asked for better term.

Off message but me nah care.

Including the wide men we need 9 strikers to really sustain a challenge next season theo the.ox rvp and gervinho are 4 i would say ryo campbell and afobe could be 3 more. but in my opinion arshavin chamakh park bendtner vela watt. the sale of those could generate enough cash to buy another top quality centre forward and hopefully another wide man preferably one who is versatile enough to play both sides. i think the obvious 2 are hazard and podolski. other contenders are huntelaar sow adam johnson dempsey rhodes

  9. Charlie says:

Just to expand on that and add to what Lawrence said it’s about his wage and how he fits into the squad hierarchy. If he is one of the best paid players, at 80k, and ranked as a key first team player then Arsenal are weakened by him. If he is on perhaps 60k and just used in rotation he could benefit the team. It all depends how he sees himself compared to how he should see himself.

  10. alireza fayyazmanesh says:

everyplayer has good day and bad day. every player in Teo age is under development, he is just getting better and better same every other young player in Arsenal, then i wellcome him again in our team and give all my support to him and others as long they are play for us. I think we have to give Arshavin a chance, maybe Wenger is right and he will come back to his form lets hope.Arsenal 4 ever

He will prove very very important in big champions league game, so yeah, we should back him on signing up!

  12. Ibro vc says:

I trust the lad, he has Arsenal DNA, for sure he would sign. And with additional top quality striker in the summer may also boost the confidence of the team and i hope the board should do the same for RVP.

  13. gunner says:

wud hav him in d team jus 4 dat special attribute-his pace(very effective in counter attack, and some special moments like d 1 against barca wen he came off as a sub) .hes still got 2 show he deserves 80k.wen u see players like almunia,u sense however well they play they aint entirely dependable or trustworthy.same can be said of walcotts crossing.at d age of 22,he can improve much though…hes better as a forward imo !!!

He played good yesterday, But 1 good performance out of 5 is not good enough for a Arsenal player. He works on confidence once it builds up he plays very well, he should sign on as if he does leave he can come back to hurt us.

  15. afc says:

I’m not too bothered what happens to be honest, if we want to go anywhere as a club, we need to have better players in better positions, walcott is a good sub with his pace but shouldn’t be starting for a team with high ambitions (which I hope we have) he needs to become more consistent to prove himself to us , I hope more than anything he becomes a good player. He has pace but if he could develop more skill and other attributes he could be a great player AFC till I die

  16. Bobby says:

We should keep him…. Coz RVP is going…. If robin was going to stay he would have signed already….. I think wenger should make robin see out his last year, by then the great man will be 30 and might be more inclined stay and see out his remaining year here like berkamp

Would be more excited if this was about RVP than one trick act Theo, he of great pace and little else.
Yesterday was Blackburn at Emirates and 10 men for a good half of football.
Yes if it helps keep RVP, great, but 80 a week and he has been around long enough to show his full book of tricks, greats have them there from the start and get better with age, he is still yet to show anything really other than pace.

  19. razzaray says:

I think he is still very young and needs to get more consistent. But to get rid of him would be a mistake. He has a good understanding with Van persie and Gervinho and to get rid of him when we now have AOC and Ryo pushing him to be the best he can be will only improve his game. I also think Coquelin should now push on and look to gain a place in the side. He has proved he can play in most positions and after his last few games means we can rest players like full backs and midfielders without losing much in balance. Ramsey has played too much and his rest yesterday will help him and push him harder even more so with Rosicky finding his form at last. Now we need Arshavin finding his form back and we could cause some interesting unrest to the top 3

Let him stay at Arsenal, Experience of English players starts to shine from the age of 23. Look at Gerad, Lampard, Carragher, Parlor and the like. IDue to that he will soon be a great palyer as signs shown yesterday. A good thing of English players they are not lazy they go on struggling and learning

Credit where credit is due and Walcott was good yesterday and lets hope that kick starts him to more consistent performances. A bit like Arsenal in general..how many times has that been said over the years. During those years we have been able to demolish average sides and look fantastic doing it. As an Arsenal fan it was great to watch
but beware of promising yourselves too much. Personally if Walcott wants to stay a gooner then great if not then goodbye. Its the same with VP…I believe he wants to stay and because of his long absences through injuries he still has plenty of miles on the clock. He has become far more mature since the captaincy, no longer gets unecessarily booked, does not commit petulant fouls compromising his own fitness.

does anyone ever read states, Theo is in the top ten for assists! so if he isn’t doing as great as you all claim then when he improves surely he will be the top provider in the prem!!!! with out him im sure VP wouldn’t have scored as much as he has. Arteta isn’t anywhere near Walcott on assists and he is classed as a decent player. know your facts before you comment. Wenger isn’t an idiot just stubborn unfortunately for Arsenal

To those criticizing Walcott I think it’s a bit harsh. He is still a kid and developing. While I agree he has been inconsistent in time that error in his game will disappear. I for one am happy we are looking to resign him.

Couldn’t imagine anything worse than he wearing a jersey that is not Arsenal.

I remember how RVP was at the same age. very inconsistant and in also jury prone. Now we worship him. We also hope that jack comes back the same player, but theres a chance that he might not. Will we then slaughter him for inconsistancy I would hope not. These players are still developing and we have to let that happen. I for one wouldn’t want Walcott running at our defence next year. We need to integrate these young players in and if they don’t do it make them rest and come back wanting it more. The last few years the whole squad has been to young. this year we have more older heads to steer them, but we have suffered with injuries in main positions. We didn’t get cover for the loss of attacking midfield and that has shown. Get behind the players and I think that in this day and age 80 grand a week for a player on his second or third contract isn’t bad for another 4-5 years.

If arsenal were buying a top class, proven player would they give him starting wages of £80k?

im afraid 1 good performance against a poor team with 10 men aint good enough. if he does it consistently from now til the end of the season then he might deserve near to 80k a week.

however 80k a week for walcott is still rediculous.

remember people, the MORE we have to pay walcott, the LESS we can afford to pay RVP!

    who’s more important!

    walcott just needs better mentoring.

on a off note i have realised this season we have been poor and baffled why it wasn’t rosickys time to shine, but arsene know best yeh, so he plays ramsey…???#’

…and you can see what has happened. To be truthful even coquelin would do a better job than ramsey.
I aint got anything aginst him, but he thinks he needs to control the game play like he does for wales.

and its astounding that wenger doesn’t see this, you even see RVP gets happy when ram is going off and Ros comin on.

So why fK up our chances and season Mr Wenga.

and the arsene h8ters are forever here, why because it just simple stupidity repeated again and again and again.

SO UP middle finga to u AKBs. Same lot who supported ramshitty until now i guess.

He’s 22. He’s still got another three to five until he reaches his peak. Who know what sort of player he could be by then with his pace? But I still don’t really like him as a winger, it’s unnatural for him. I’d rather him play as a forward.

I would give Alex Oxlade Chamberlain the contract instead of Walcott.AOC is much more consistent than Theo.I would sell Walcott this summer(in range of 10 to 15 million pounds).I would bring in Jesus Navas of Sevilla as his replacement(in range of 15 to 25 million pounds).Jesus is better Winger + he is much more consistent. He is 26 years old which means he has 6 to 7 good years in him(maybe More).

@lawrence gf & Charlie. Spot on mates! 80k/wk for TW may be a little excessive for such an inconsistent performer. If AW can let the competition play out in the team, Gervinho & the OX should be starting on the wings ahead of TW anyway. But then again, you can never be sure with AW!

One thing is for sure walcott cannot perform his best every week so rotating with gervi is the best. He does deserve 80k cause if diaby gets 60k then so he must get more. Also rvp must be made the best paid player. He should get 240k a week cause henry got 230k a week 4 years ago. He is same quality as henry.

Walcott is going to sign, thats a fact. Does any1 think Van Persie will be told in the summer that he is going to be kept regardless of what he thinks and for that reason he will do a deal with the club by signing a 4year contract, and if Arsenal fail to challenge next season he will be promised that he will be sold and with 3years remaining on his contract we will get real value.Thierry Henry did it in 2006…..
