Walcott contract talks with Arsenal in jeopardy

Posted on January 01, 2012 by admin

Everybody knows that Robin van Persie has refused to talk about his new contract at Arsenal until the end of the season, but there has been little mention of the same situation developing with Theo Walcott.

Both of them will have just 12 months left on their contract in June, but it seems that negotiations have already begun between the club and Walcott’s agent and they are not going well.

Today’s Star reports that the England international winger has demanded a four-year deal worth £85,000-a-week, which has supposedly “angered” the Arsenal board according to the article.

Like Samir Nasri last season, Walcott has into a fine player as he approaches the last 12 months of his contract and will not be short of suitors if the contract talks break down. Juventus have been linked with a move since last summer and the Star reckons that both Chelsea and Liverpool are monitoring the situation, as well as PSG in France.

Considering the excellent partnership that has developed between Walcott and Robin Van Persie, it would be yet another massive blow if Arsenal were forced to sell both of them this coming summer.

**Van Persie’s first 100 goals for Arsenal – 10 goals per minute! – Brilliant!**

  4. The newspaper can say what they want but I don’t see either of Song, Walcot or RVP ( all of who have contracts coming to an end ) leaving Arsenal any time soon.

    1. Wenger has been heartbroken in the summer and that will make him do things that he usually will not do to keep the players happy.

    2. The Board know the importance of Wenger been happy and will give him his demands.

    3. RVP loves Arsenal and all the tactics so far is just for more money which I think he will get and he deserves.

    4. Walcot also loves Arsenal and only wants more money.

    5. Song has no bidders and even if there are bidders, are just can’t see the possibility of him leaving.

  5. Joseph says:

Mr. Wenger if you could develop a habit of alternating players match to match eg Walcot and Alex Chambellain, could reduce the superiority to those who think they are best because they play each match. But again we should not repeat on what happened in the last summer selling experienced players who stayed for long time together this will cost the team

This time we are ready (for once) with the perfect replacement. We must have a ready made player to step in (AOC) and play Walcott to death till the end of the season. Then we can get as much as we can between now and seasons end for him. I am sick of players holding Arsenal to ransom in the final 2 years of their contract. I know players need to feel wanted, but fans need to feel we don’t have to buy their loyalty. As I said you need replacements at the club when negotiating then let them make decisions on their future earlier. Arsenal will always survive

He should be given a pay rise, within reason. 85k over 4 years is a fair amount. I personally think there should be a 70k a week cap on all players, as it is getting out of hand. But the problem is the rich clubs paying players 200,000k per week and turning players heads!

Its a big amount of money to guarantee to a player who hasn’t really come good quite yet. Walcott has improved but again he is a frustrating player in terms of the final ball and end product. He showed this last night and during the season. It will be a big call for Wenger since if they sold him for 20 million they could buy a player to put on 85k a week who could be better.

I’d say walcott has been quite overrated ever since he was picked by sven for the world-cup back in 2006. given his pace and the fact that he is still just 22, he could still develop into a great player, however I doubt it. if he demands too much money we should rather sell him (abroad that is, no way we can sell him to cfc or lfc) and bring in podolski instead.

Thierry Henry had the pace, skill and class. Something Walcott will never live up to. How can he play central striker when he can’t even bag a goal vs the keeper one on one. Thierry would’ve buried that home with his eyes closed even today!

  35. Big Gun says:

@mo I agree. Walcott is fast and that’s about it. He is not composed at all, he looked so nervous yesterday when he had that one on one with the keeper. Touches of brilliance like Henry are a natural gift, something a player cannot really improve on. I do not see Walcott improving his game in a sense of better first touches and finishing. He has had ample time and training to do so but he has failed time and again. If it wasn’t for his speed he would be a below average player.

Now the Ox on the other hand is younger, more skillful, more solid and just as fast as Theo. Apparently Juventus are going to offer 20m+. Sell him and use that money to bring in Gotze and Podolski, Samba and Vertonghen. Ox will replace Walcott and do a far better job in the future.

This is a bit of a tricky one cos I like Walcott. I have been a big fan from day one. Unfortunately though the quality is too far between. Remember Chelsea game he was a bully but then he could go through games quiet. He is not consistent yet. If the manager think he deserve what he is asking for then ok but if not I would say sell if u can get up to 20M. A 20M player from Europe is a top player. Only fear is we seem to sell for 20 and then look for a 10M replacement thereby getting less quality than we had

Wow, finally people are seeing the 1d player he is and no longer abusing anyone that questions theo’s ability. He may be young but don’t forget that he is the most senior player at arsenal bar rvp. He has played at every level in all competitions and yet has such a fragile confidence level.
I really wonder why Wenger hasn’t developed him more. Perhaps it’s not Wenger, and it’s actually Theo himself. Amazing that traore who roasted by nani had Theo in his pocket all game. Theo’s plan b is to move inside, neglect his tracking back and when given the chance to settle the match couldn’t shake off armand and dragged his tame shot wide. I say sell him on as a player who never fulfilled his promise and get Eden hazard who makes walcott look like a pub player. If we get 20 m for walcott and have to pay 45m for hazard the net 20 spend would be a total steal.

Walcott is an average player at best ( that guy thinks he is Thierry Henry !! What a joke )
He wants to play as a main striker, when we all know he does not have the “near quality”…!!!

What are his qualities? none, may be pace and that’s about it…

As far as I am concern he can go and get Sinclair from Swansea who is a better player and more skilful.

We will get Podolski, Van Persie will sign a new contract, Gotze has made it clear that he wants to play for Arsenal, Benayoun might get a permanent deal.

We will be fine. Walcott is kind of important at the moment because Arshavin has become a disgrace… That’s again Wenger fault for sticking to those deadwoods ( check out that lazy, useless and overpaid toss Diaby !!! I mean what a waist of space…!! )

Guys let’s look at following simple mathematics(which Mr Professor is Guru of).

85k per week for four years for Walcott = 18 mil.
40k per week four years for any x- player = 8.5 mil. As even a garbage in Arsenal FC first team earns 40k per week at least(Wenger policy of first team players). So basically to match up with total cost of ownership Arsenal needs to buy a player of better quality than Walcott in 9.5 milion who is willing to accept 40k per week.

Does anyone think there is any possibility of buying such a proven player who can replaces Walcott in 9.5 mil and willing to accept 40k per week salary. So economical alternative is to buy ‘nothing’ and cash in ‘Walcott’ and give AOC chance. Typical Arsene Wenger.

Personally I think we should keep Walcott so that we get better of both AOC and Walcott.

    I don’t.

I`ve always been of the impression that Theo has been spoiled by Arsene and put on a pedestal that has given him an inflated ego, I may be wrong. To me his problems (if he has any) started with Sven Erikkson and the World Cup selection before even making a debut in the EPL. He`s not the type of player who I would keep at all costs (few are) and I don`t know how Wenger evaluates his worth but 85K a week seems excessive.

I am NOT an arsenal fan BUT I believe the OX should play more, Walcott should have a least a chance as striker, but song is terrible. My personal opinion ion is that Song should be sold in the summer and Frimpong should take his place. On the other hand Walcott needs to develop some composure FAST otherwise he will never be a great player. And as to RVP it is obvious to all he needs to stay. At any cost.

First of all why doesnt Wenger play OX. We paid 15 million pounds for him and he is sitting on the bench. I guarentee that he would have made a bigger impact than Walcott so far if given the proper oppurtunity.

Walcott is not a good player. If you consider the amount of chances he has gotten and Arsenal and the skill level he is at then I would not pay him that money. Let him go while other teams still think he is good. If you really understand soccer the you will know that Walcott at the moment is not at the skill level of a top player.

If I can compare him to one player then it would be Modric or Bale from our rivals Tottenham. Can you really tell me Walcott is as good as them. Im sorry to sa so but he is not and what makes it worst they are of similar age and Walcott has being given more time to develop than both those players.

He cant dribble, he can control a ball properly, he cant finish off clear chances. Sorry to say but not worth 85000 pounds.

For those that say that 85000 pounds is not a lot then think again. With the new laws coming in the premier league it will be if we cant balance out the books.
