Walcott moves closer to World Cup as Beckham is ruled out for season
Last night the England winger David Beckham suffered a career-ending injury during AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Chievo in Serie A, and has just about ruled himself out of any chance of playing in the World Cup this summer.
There were no other players near Beckham when he pulled up with a torn Achilles tendon, and his manager and team-mates were devastated after the game.
The Milan coach Leonardo said: “Beckham’s injury makes us feel terrible.
“He is an extraordinary guy and today’s game proves it yet again.
“I cannot enjoy this evening considering this serious injury.
“David understood immediately that he had torn his Achilles tendon.”
The Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf echoed his managers statements and said that the team will try even harder to overcome Inter Milan in the race for the title: “But it will mean that we will all need to give everything we have even for those who will not be with us.
“They deserve that for what they have done so far this season.”
With the Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon suffering a relapse of his groin injury, the Arsenal youngster Theo Walcott will now have every chance of making Fabio Capello’s squad if he can string a few good performances together in the last couple of months of the season.

It’s sad to see how Beckham reacted on his injury. WC 2010 should be his last appearance for England but it’s now all over for him. For Walcott, show a continuos impressive performance. You do not guaranteed a place, still need to surpass the likes of Lennon, Wright Phillips, Milner, A Young and possibly promising talent Adam Johnson. Theo must aware.

Wow, just last saturday, I was wondering, with SWP and Beckham playing better, and ONLY if one of them has an injury that would keep them out for a long time, will Walcott make SA. Concidering Lennon will have to catch up and isn’t fit yet. I know feel bad for David as i wanted him to go and play his last world cup. Milner should be fine on the left with Gerard, I don’t think Capello is interested in Ashley Young, Adam Johnson is a threat for the right mf. Walcott has a lot to do, but i think Capello likes him, so he’ll have to justify this.
