Theo Walcott has been far from his best in an Arsenal shirt recently and has come on for a lot of criticism from the fans and the media, but he was much better today. He took his goal well and was lively and dangerous all through the game. Many felt that he was not a big game player but he proved them wrong today.
It’s a real shame that his goal was not enough to get the three points that would have kept Arsenal’s top four chances in their own hands, but we are now hoping for a slip from Tottenham or Chelsea. They do play each other, but if Spurs win all their games, including the one at Stamford Bridge, they will finish above us. If Chelsea win all their games except the one against Spurs, they will also finish above us.
Walcott is aware of the pressure, though, and knows that none of the remaining fixtures for any of the teams is a foregone conclusion. The most important thing for the Gunners is to keep focused and win our own matches, which we should do if we play like we did against the champions today. Apart from giving away a dumb penalty, obviously.
“It’s great for you guys,” said Walcott to the Sky cameras. “Not so great for us.
“We just have to concentrate on ourselves. We cannot keep relying on other teams.
“As long as we get the three points and do not drop any points, that is all we can do.
“Hopefully, come the end of the season, we have kept that undefeated run of games. We need to make sure we are definitely there.
“I think both teams did not want to lose the game. In previous weeks we might have gambled a bit more than we normally do.
“But overall, come the end of the season, I think it will be a good point.”
Chelsea beat Swansea today, but they still have to play United next weekend, as well as Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton. Spurs were lucky to get a point against Wigan yesterday and are not playing well. They have choked before and will probably do it again, so if Arsenal can win the last three games, I am convinced that we will finish in the top four. Don’t panic Gooners.
