Walcott, Sagna, Koscielny and Podolski out for Arsenal v West Brom

Even though Arsene Wenger rested practically his whole first team for the match against Olympiakos, there are still a few injuries from the previous games and the two most worrying for Arsenal fans are Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski.

Walcott has been our most influential attacker when given playing time this season and most Arsenal fans would also agree that Podolski is our best candadate for the left-wing spot.

Wenger revealed this evening: “Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott (calf) are out. Bacary Sagna (foot) and Laurent Koscielny (thigh) are not back. From Tuesday night in Greece there are no new injuries so we have a selection from the combined squad of Tuesday and Saturday.”

Carl Jenkinson and easily cover for Sagna and we have enough centre-backs to do without Koscielny, but I can imagine Gervinho and Ramsey being used to cover our two best wingers, which will not be the best news that Arsenal fans want to hear right now.

The good news is that Wenger does not think Podolski will be out for long. He said: “It is a hamstring. It should be short-term.”

I am sure everyone is worrying about Andre Santos who has hardly been selected for the squad lately, but Wenger also gave us an update on the Brazilian defender. “He will not be ready for Saturday but he is not far away with an abdominal injury.”

Abou Diaby and Lukasz Fabianski are unlikely to figure again this year….

maybe i think . arsene need to buy fabregas back .. as he told the press WHY NOT he can’t come back to arsenal . that would be a huge momentum for the team and fans
plz arsene get him back . he is fed up there being substitute

I hope Rosicky starts on Saturday. My line-up would be:

    Szczesny

    Jenks – Mert – TV5 – Gibbs

    Arteta – Wilshere

    Ox – Cazorla – Rosicky

    Giroud

This should be a line-up good enough to beat West Brom regardless of how good a season they are having. COYG!! Arsenal for life!!

it would be nice to have him back but where will he play?

theres Cazorla and Rosicky in the AM position…Arteta and Wilshere can fill that up tooo…

what Arsenal really needs is a midfield sergent major…some one to shout motivate and lead the team..someone like Viera…someone experience around the Age of Arteta…

I prefer to using cazorla in the left wing, so the little mozart fill the CAM position.

for the bench, I will be happy if Eisfeld can be there, so my line up is :

    Szcz

    Jenk Mert Verm Gibbs

    Arteta Wilshere

    Rosicky

    Ox Giroud Cazorla

    Subs:
    Mannone
    Miquel
    Le Coq
    Eisfeld
    Arshavin
    Chamakh

It’s better to play Rosicky as Central attacking mid and Cazorla at the wings. Even though Cazorla can produce good through balls, he is not good at controlling the speed of the game. Cazorla is a better Winger than a play maker. I think if we play Rosicky at the centre and Cazorla at the wings, Arsenal will be creative from part of pitch and they’ll create a lot of chance

    @ indonesian gooners

that will be playing Cazorla at a wrong position..he may not perform up to standards….

a big risk for a newly assembled team..where players do not know each other inside out to provide adequate support or cover for each other weakness when required….

Yup. Theo is a big loss, I agree Cazorla needs to right and beat players off the dribble. Rosicky for the AM OX/Gervinho on the left. For god sakes stop passing the ball between CD and Goalkeeper. Play 4:4:2 if you have to… With Ramsey on the wing Arteta as The other So called holding Midfielder we have no bite and penetration! Rosicky Wilshere in the middle with Arteta and Cazorla Gervinho OX on the wings should help.

@Hafiz Rahman For your info, Cazorla is playing at the wrong position now. He used to play in the flanks before coming to Arsenal. Playing at the wings is the best for him

    From Cazorla’s interview @ Arsenal.com
“The manager played me as a second striker,It’s a position I really like, and it’s not one I’ve played in much in recent years”

Cannot say whether Sagna’s case is genuine or fake. Wenger’s gonna boot him out (perhaps for not agreeing with everything he says), and he thinks we should want to do without him from now itself.
By the way agree with GUN there. Cazorla is a wide man. Why would anyone want to rate that down?

i dont kno why every one forget abt arshavin…we dont hav to worry…

    sczesny
    jenk per verm gibbs
    jack mikel
    rosicky cazorla arsha
    giroud

and we can try changing formations to 442 or 433…arshavin s not featuring regularly after wenger got a booos from manu match last season…its time move…

Right now Wenger needs to buy Fellaini, experienced LB and GK and get rid of Mannone, Squillaci, Santos, Arshavin and Chamakh.
Wenger also needs to replace Diaby, Ramsey and Gervinho by next summer. The best replacements for me would be Isco and Navas/Zaha.

I think ,team can adapt easily if cazorla playing in the both of wing, depending to playing Ramsey there..

maybe CAM position is cazorla wanted, but if our team can perform better ,why not?

So much for resting players to be ready for the weekend game – I dread this situation worse than any other – when Wenger can find some excuse to start Ramsey

there we go , Mr. Wenger already made a back door for his escape plan

when we lose against west-brom this will be his excuses we had injuries and blah blah blah

I think we should sack our medical team as well for doing such a fantastic job on getting the players ready…

Why not real madrid or barca or any of those top clubs have not as many injuries as we have?

how many times messi and ronaldo got injured in these years ?

@Jeff: Your point about Walcott goals is valid but his real worth is, I think, providing service to Giroud – others on the right have not had much luck there.

And please don’t ever again mention Ramey again as someone you actually want on the team sheet – that is just suicide.

@Ali: Your lineup makes the most sense – I would, however, actually like to see Rosicky in the middle and Cazorla on the wing – Arsenal wing play and service into the middle has been lacking – maybe Cazorla is one answer.

@Indonesion Gooner: Awesome lineup. Your squad selection, both starters and subs, is the best Arsenal can do with the players they have available. That is why Wenger will never do it. Do you think Wenger will really leave his pet completely out of the 18 man squad? We can dream.

As long as Rosicky is fit enough, I want Cazorla”s brain and invention in the wings. Besides, Rosicky and anyone can interchange.. He makes runs off the ball has the believe and technique to not lose the ball…

Why are you guys obsessed with Ramsey so much?. He’s the only player I see busting his gut out there in the 85th minute. You were slating Walcott just two months ago until it became apparent that he was leaving and all of a sudden a change of heart.
Gervinho was the savior of the free world until he got injured, and Arteta was the super DM just a month ago.
Instead if just getting on their backs, why not try to make the Emirates the loudest, and see how the players respond.
It feels like all the people watching at the Emirates are sitting and biting their fingers hoping the opposition will not close our players down ready to moan and groan.
Lets do our part in the stands, and we will see that we are the only ones that bring the anxiety on our players.

Always thought Cazorla plays on the right wing for Malaga, playing him on the left might not be prudent.

i reckon Gnabry left and Ox on the right would be much more effective.

Both players have the pace and love to take on players

Mate, I’m not of lover of Ramsey at the moment, but the one thing that is admirable about the boy is that he’s not hiding and does give it 90 mins. I wish other players we had didnt go AWOL, Woolcott being one of the worst culprits.

I still think we need 2 strikers on top. I have an issue with the current setup of 4231 way to much playng around the box, with to little in the box. I will like it if wenger could change it , maybe something like:

    Szczesny

    Jenk – Mert – Verm – Gibbs

    Ox – Cazorla – Arteta – Rosicky

    Giroud – Gerv

I NEED ARSHAVIN on the left wing, lets keep ramsey out then he can come in as a sub, lets play Arshavin-giroud-OX
    arteta-carzola-wilshere
Then rocisky can sub wilshere,Ramsey OX,gerv Arshavin…it will be great upfront.

Rosicky was brilliant last year at CAM. I don’t see Cazorla’s production diminishing on the left wing as he seems to tend to trod toward that flank and play through Podolski and Gibbs who usually start there. Both players can swap positions when needed and create some extra flexibility/movement to throw the opposing team off and create space for chances. I’d start:

    Szczesny
    Jenkinson-Mertasacker-Vermaelen-Gibbs
    Arteta-Wilshere
    Rosicky
    Ox-Giroud-Cazorla

Subs: Mannone, Djourou, Coquelin, Santos, Ramsey, Eisfeld, Gervinho

I frequently see some thumbs down for some very reasonable and measured suggestions – like playing Rosicky in the middle and Cazorla on the wings – now really, considering the poor wing play lately and the fact that Rosicky is a proven commodity, who would really object to offering this as a suggestion or even just giving this a try. Seriously? This is the kind of thing that is objectionable to read in a posting?

@Ali: I like your lineup except…. Rosicky is the one player right now who can bring some new energy and creativity – Arsenal could really use that right now.
