Walcott set to replace Nicklas Bendtner?
The Great Dane (well he thinks so!) Nicklas Bendtner is certain to leave Arsenal this summer, whether it is a loan deal or a straight sale. As back-up to Robin Van Persie and Marouane Chamakh last season, Bendtner got very few chances to play in his favoured central striker role and was usually used as a winger when given an opportunity.
Now that Arsene Wenger has confirmed the signing of Gervinho, who can also play on both wings or in the centre, Theo Walcott has asked Wenger if he can be given more chances as an out-and-out striker next season.
He said: “I was signed as a striker and I want to play up front,”.
“I think I have done my trade out on the wing. I think a lot of people forget that I’m not a winger. I see myself as a striker, although if I get played up front, it will take me a few games to get used to playing there again because I haven’t played there for about five years now.
“I think I have done a fairly good job on the wing for Arsenal and I will play anywhere for this team but, hopefully, the fans will start seeing me a bit more up front.”.
With so many wingers and midfielders in the team now, it will be very interesting to see how Wenger lines up his sides during the Emirates Cup in preparation for the start of the season. Arsenal need to hit form quickly so will Wenger pick Walcott as part of his strongest line-up for the first game?

I’m sorry walcott, your not gud enough up front as a lone striker, and your finishing, as demonstrated in your last game, needs major improvement even as winger let alone as a striker!!

If we’ll go back to 4-4-2, I prefer Gervinho to play as a striker alongside RVP, having Walcott playing on the wing and be a possible backup behind Chamakh.
On a 4-3-3 formation, he should play forward with RVP as striker and Nasri/Gervinho on the other wing.

Walcott should play as a winger..he is fast,.he can beat any defender..he just needs to improve his crossing..but if we go to 4-4-2..then rvp and ger should be used as strike parteners..

sorry walcott NOT happening unless u want to sit on the bench i mean if vela doesn’t get ago y should u? vela has great pace VERY good one-one killer positiong BUT has only one foot (left), n u have pace n ummm………….pace? not to mention we have gervinho n chamakh fighting 2 play as well

I would give him a go up front! His goals against Chelsea newcastle and blackburn came from him playing on the shoulder of the last defender! I’d love to see 4-4-2 again at Arsenal! On the way out I would have Almunia Eboue Squallici Denilson Diaby Arshavin Vela Rosicky Bentdner and Fabregas! If we were to re invest the money we get for them and add it to the money we have to spend we could have an amazing squad! Having already added Jenkingson and Gervinho I’d love to see more quality signings. I’d bring in Cahill Dann Parker and Chamberlain. With the Fabregas money we should sign De Rossi and Mata! Also give first team chances to Frimpong Lansbury and Myihici..(Spelling)! We would also need another left back as I’m un sure about Gibbs and Traroe!

Theo Should Deffo play up front.. Been at arsenal since 2006 and hes never played up front once.. so why not give him a chance up there.. he always gets cornerd on the wing and hes not creative as much to work his way out.. so why not give the lil guy a new role…

he should be a striker.. he has a good instinct as u see with the majority of his goals he has little time to think about what to do.. whereas on the wing he has to think (cross or play the pass or shoot etc).. henry started as a winger which wasnt his favoured position or one he wasnt great at..and look what happened when he played as a forward..

I think on the counter attack he’ll be great with his pace and balls put through to run on to. Fox in the box, not a chance. Definitely not a header of the ball. So back to one dimensional strikers and passing.

People are haters, everyone knows Walcotts the new Henry he just needs the oppurtunity and he’ll provided people wrong. He’s a great finisher and his pace will allow him to get in 1 v 1 positions with the goalie! Him and rvp will do great. But I still think we news to sell more. Get rid of Alminia, Bendtner, Diaby, Nasri, AND FABREGAS. His skills are great but I rather see Mata or Pastore there. And we need to buy a defensive midfielder like Matuidi or M’bia and buy Per Mertesacker or Gary Cahill.

playing RVP with walcott would be a great idea since he can run past most defenders and Gervinho can do a swap with him when needed, conveniently. Nasri should just be remain in the team to support from the left.

I think that Walcott should finally wake up, he spent the last season on the edge of the box wasting time and chances, he’s no finisher and will never become one, he has to play on the wing where he can open up the game with his speed, he should learn how to cross and how to defend, last year he stood in the box wondering how he could miss a 100% instead of running back, that’s where our defense problem begins.

Are guys serious? There were times last year where he looked awesome up front. He may not be good in a 1 out striker, but you can’t deny he has shades of Thierry Henry. I believe he will strive as a striker.

Out striking needs aman who has an ability to see the ball in all angles/directions and must have good looking to dis direct /confuse the goal kipper and getting the ball to the goal. But when we see TW even he gets the ball on the side his trying to make it score is too low,simply seems providing the ball 4 kipper.
