Walcott – Wenger told us to expect new arrivals

Posted on June 07, 2011 by admin

Theo Walcott is fully aware that Arsenal need strengthening in some areas, and says that Arsene Wenger has already told the players that there will be some changes before the new season starts.

He believes that changes are needed if the elusive trophy will finally be coming after the clubs six year drought. He said: “Yeah I’m expecting players to be signed, the manager’s said so,”

“Hopefully we can keep hold of our best players, as we need to be winning something next season without a doubt. It’s been so long and the fans have waited so long. And players don’t like seeing every season go without winning anything.”

As for holding on to their best players, he thinks that whether Nasri stays or not is up to the player himself and shouldn’t be discussed by his team-mates: “I don’t like getting involved in people’s careers,” Walcott continued.

“We need to keep hold of our best players – but it’s up to Samir, it’s his decision. He had a great season, he showed people what he can do. He’s a very important player to Arsenal and we’ll see what happens in the summer.”

So Wenger has told the players AND the fans that he will be active in the transfer market. But the question still begs: Will he be just buying youngsters or will he buy some seriously good players?

    I’m 50 – 50 on this issue.
Maybe we were linked with these big name players a few weeks back so we could all renew our memberships/season tickets.

But I think Wenger has realised that every fan has turned against him, if not then everyone will turn against him if he doesn’t sign anyone.

I think he has one more year before we all ‘March the streets to get him out’

    Prove us wrong Wenger

I agree with gooner, I have a gut feeling too; wenger realises he has to redeem the respect of his fans cause after that season he is losing it QUICK, his hanging on by a thread, but this transfer season is where he just cant afford to NOT buy class players. I WANT wenger to prove us wrong, I seriously want to see him lift a trophy, it would be morally wrong to send him off before he does.

i don’t believe it until it really happen, typical arsene and arsenal. every season there is a lot of blax2 here and there, with player here and there. But in the end it just talking and rumors to sell the paper, and increase certain player price. Man utd already making there move by signing ashley young. we just in the pocess bla..bla..bla.

  13. Gigi says:

Wenger HAS to change his approach if he means to be a title contender. His approach is very high in terms of youth development, but the evidence is that: it DOES NOT win you trophies and THEY LEAVE once they are fully developped.

    Hurts, sucks. but its true.

I think we need quality players, age doesnt matter, sakho is a beast. Id like gervinho, hazard, benzema(lets hope real get aguero)

Wenger go out and get us some quality players, sell cesc to fund these signings if need be but we need to move forward. as far as the fringe players leaving just promote from within those that are worth…def some players are worthy compared to the greates striker of all in b52 and the greatest box to box midfielder in denilson.

  16. richie says:

I don’t know but if we “can’t afford” 110,000 a week for a top player, then probably he would still be signing young unknown talent or cheap flops like squillaci and almunia.

There are 50+ players who earn more than 110,000 a week, among them higuain, benzema, schneider, etoo… so I don’t see why one of them would sign for us for 90,000 a week

  17. richie says:

we can save the salary form fabregas and nasri but we will need to start paying 110,000 plus to some players, those might be benzema or players of that level. But we cannot pretend to win titles and be at the top of Europe with cheap signings and stingy salaries.

  24. Will says:

Why do people rate samba so highly?! He is not the answer to our problems. If he was that good, why has he not been signed up by a better, top 4 team earlier in his career? Or am I the only one who realizes that we need someone who’s actually faster than David weir in our defense. He would be a weak link in out defense, and, quite frankly, i’d lose all hope if we did buy him. I would rather see a transfer window with no out goings and incomings than seeing samba in an arsenal shirt next season.

Arsenal fans are the most pathetic of fans. Man IOU have signed young! Where did u get that news from? How does the price of a player justify his quality? Splash the cash, don’t buy cheap, don’t buy young players, blah!blah!blah! Is chicharito not cheap, young and was even unknown? yet most despicable arsenal fans would like to see him at arsenal. These so called fans don’t know shit about managing football but would insult wenger anytime they read crap from the media. An advice…you make more sense when you shut up.

  26. ken says:

Ive supported arsenal for over fifty five years and all you Arsene knockers need to be able to know just what we had before his revolution of the club.
Second to those other people down the road – never winning a trophy on a regular basis – never never appearing in the champions league – never having a team that goes undefeated for 49 games – having a stadium that stopped us from competing with the best in the world.
Look at us noew – 60000 at every home game and filling grounds when we play away. A champions league final, two semi finals and regular competitors in this top tournament.
Top world class players playing in our famous shirt – only one player achieving anything (Cashley) once they leave.
Give the greatest manager we have ever had some credit for goodness sake. \a freak goal at Wembley was not Arsenes fault it was the players. He has said that he will sign proven premier league players before the season starts IN ARSENE YOU DOUBTERS SHOULD TRUST – thank you Arsene for eleven tremendous years.

Some Arsenal fans are really pathetic, most of them can’t even manage their lifes properly, but they will call some one old enough to be their father all sorts of names. Most of these elements will ruin the club if given the opportunity. You guys should surport the team or go to mancity. Arsenal is only going through a rough path which every club goes through. Am sure arsenal will get out of it soon so get behind the team for Gods sake!

Arsene know he needs to strengthen the squad and benzema gervinho and larsson would be the right players to do that but must important signing needed is a strong goalkeeper with out a doubt

  33. Charlie says:

@ken well said. This is not a black period in Arsenals’ history or even a grey period, it is a relatively bright period but without the trophies certainly not golden. My point is that the criticism vastly outweighs the circumstances and when we look back in ten years time we will see this as a rebuilding time following the considerable expense of the new stadium. That’s all it is, while other clubs are being bankrolled by billionaires Arsenal are trying to pay off the expense of a 470m quid stadium. The bankrolling will be curtailed by the financial fair play regulations, the stadium debt will decrease and the successful youth players from 2-3 years ago together with new additions will ensure a talented squad for the next generation. We will all feel frustrated and disappointed while the team gets close without winning trophies but when the good times return they will be around for a long time.
