Waleed – Wenger is NOT a tyrant and Arsenal WILL recover!
Is Wenger a Tyrant? And How do we Compare to Spurs? by Waleed
So we’ve lost three in a row now. Pretty awful. I’m a Wenger man through and through but you’ve got to criticize at this point, you’ve got to ask questions. We can all agree the personal abuse is not acceptable, and so we don’t need to discuss that. But there is another view which I find equally unacceptable, but continues to be bandied about on blogs and twitter and such. And this is the view that Wenger is some sort of tyrant who has too much power and he needs to be rebelled against so the fans can reclaim their power and restore the club to its former glory.
But here’s the thing, there’s something fundamentally wrong with that comparison. Let me put it very simply. A tyrant’s best interests do not match the best interests of the people. A football manager’s interests are always the same as the people. Hence, a football manager cannot possibly be a tyrant.
The tyrant, by definition, doesn’t care about what the people want. He is interested, usually, in gathering as much power and wealth as possible. The people in this scenario usually get nothing. Nothing good, anyway.
What Arsene Wenger wants, like any other manager, is glory. He wants to win. And that’s exactly what the fans want. Wenger will do whatever it takes to make his team do the best they can. And that’s exactly what the fans want him to do. Wenger does not get to keep the profit the clubs makes, all he gets to keep is his salary. Which is substantial, but one hardly fitting an all powerful despot, and it doesn’t detract from our aim of winning matches.
What I’m getting at is this: we need to ask questions of the manager, criticize him when he deserves it, and in turn he has to take responsibility for whatever the results are, but he is one of us. He wants exactly what we want. So I’m against the cynicism that is quite apparent in much of the criticism.
There is no need for cynicism here, not against the man who works hard everyday to get us wins and trophies. We may very well disagree with his methods, but let’s not think that he actually wants us to lose. Making money for the club is not what he wants, he doesn’t want us to be a mediocre club that only develops young players, he wants us to win titles. And he proved as much in the best possible way – by winning them.
And here’s another thing, those who do support the manager aren’t delusion. We are aware how long its been since we last won a title. We feel the same pain every other fan does when we allow a late goal to lose yet another game and fall farther behind the scum. But we are allowed to not blame Wenger for all our troubles. I would argue that you can’t if you really take into account the bigger picture. The supporters can all disagree, but what would bridge the divide between the supporters is if we get rid of the cynicism. Wenger is not an evil tyrant hell bent on making us lose. The fans who support him are not his blindly loyal minions. We all have our reasons to think what we do, and do what we do. But we all want the same thing – victory through harmony.
—
Anyway, now that you’ve suffered through the above rant, let me discuss something completely unrelated. There has been a lot of talk in the last couple of years of Arsenal declining and Spurs slowly catching up and then taking over. The fear this season is that we may not get to celebrate St.Totteringham’s day, and we might take Spurs’ place in the Europa League next season. That is, unfortunately, a realistic possibility at this time.
Let’s assume that comes true. Have Spurs overtaken us, permanently, as North London’s biggest club? No. And I could explain that by pointing out that one of their best players is actually on loan from their rivals City, and they can’t afford his wages. And that Modric’s summer transfer saga was just the tip of the iceberg of what they would have to deal with if they stay at the top. And the only reason they’ve done so well in the league is because they didn’t even try in Europe. And I could go on and on down that path.
But allow me to focus on Arsenal. We still have, I believe, just as good of a team without an injury crisis weighing us down. And we’ve got a younger team, capable of improving year on year as long as our best players stay together. We’ve got world class talent like Jack Wilshere, The Ox, Ramsey. And we know that the main cause of our lowly position this season is Eboue’s departure in the summer (along with half the team). If we keep our team together we have a great platform to build on and fight for the League Title and Champions League again. We have great young talent, we are better equipped to hold onto our best players, and we can attract the better talent, as well, even without a season of Champions League football.
And if the unthinkable does happen, I will not slit my wrists, because there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If we remember the summer of 08, when Hleb and Flamini departed, and we lost Rosicky and Fabregas for long parts of the following season (that was our whole midfield). It was a bad season, but we rebuilt, and we were back challenging for the top trophies again. And that was a much less talented side than this current one. I think we’re in even better shape than Chelsea now to rebuild. They have ageing players and some other players who just aren’t good enough. They need a complete overhaul. Us? We need Wilshere back and maybe some more support for RvP up front. So have faith, gooners. We will recover, if not this season, then next. We just need to make sure Wenger doesn’t leave us for Madrid!

disappointing game against Bolton… We missed a lot of chances…..
I think our midfield was too slow…. we missed the speed that Rosicky offers…. we should pass the ball more quickly and accurately so that the opponents don’t know what hit them….
Extremely happy to have Sagna….

Waleed whatever youre smoking is illegal!Wenger is solely responsible for the declineof Arsenal over the past 8 years. He has sold our best players or rather lost them by not being able to make a decent challenge for silverware. He has given the same “were building for the future story year after year” and when you look at the results its been an absolute shambles. Take the likes of Walcott,Diaby,Song,Djourou,Bentner, etc – for the best part they are all useless. You mentioned Eboue? If hes the saviourof Arsenal then were doomed. when he does unearth a gem hes sold for a profit regardless of the needs of the team. People lable Nasri and Fabergas as being greedy etc , they want to achieve success at the highest level, smething very unlikely at Arsenal. Spurs are way ahead of us at present, look at the table, thats the reality. There will be an exodus at Arsenal at the end of this trasfer window unless the french idiot wakes up! – unfortunately that oportunity has passed us by!

there is sense in that, but we cannot just say next year next year,
the board n wenger should have taken some immediate actions, this is what’s lacking, like buying of n established dangerous attacking midfielder of attacker
and some change in policy
n some change in tactics, we cannot just stick to a single plan A, we should have a plan B
i know next year we’ll be stronger, but what about now???!! we got fa cup n champions league to win man! if not a fourth place, put blood n soul to win the european prestige cup ! BACK THE TEAM AGAINST MILAN GUYS !

Let me just point out the FACTS. We are 12 points behind Spurs… that means they have 2 lose FOUR games and us to win EVERY GAME for us to even catch them… thats NOT going to happen.
We are now 7TH in the league below SHOCKING teams that are Liverpool and Newcastle.
SOMETHING HAS TO HAPPEN AND HAPPEN FAST BECAUSE THIS ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH FOR OUR F*CKING CLUB!!!!!

Dude, valid points – I am a big fan of Wenger, but this season you have to admit his decision making capabilities (in the transfer market and arguably at times during games) has to be questioned BIG time – if as you say his desire really is to win trophies or even finish top 4 (this season). Top 4 finish is vital and I’m sorry but from what I saw last summer we only had a marginal chance of getting there at best
In regards to Wenger, he’s having a laugh saying he still thinks we’re in a position to finish 4th – top 3 are gone, chelsea are 4th 5 points clear, in his dreams…anyone watching could tell in early december we’ll be lucky…VERY lucky to finish 5th. My bet from day one this season is/was 6th and still stand by that…i like wenger but he’s either delusional or crazy – and i’ve given up following the transfer rumours (after massive disappointment last summer and not even going to speak about this winter)…he’s not going to get a marquee signing ever…end of! if we want that and titles, we will have to get someone else in (unfortunately). If we can accept that we will finish 6th (and behind tottenham) this season, and as a result we will not be able to sign top players for 2-3 seasons (this is exactly what happened to liverpool. would hazard sign for a club that isn’t playing champions league – not that Arsene would pay the price anyway) and are ok with being ~6th for the next few years with an outside chance at 4th (and no cup silverware) before getting back to being a strong team whilst the FIFA economic balancing rules feed through the system then Wenger is our man. I don’t say this in jest, he will rebuild our squad over 3yrs with young cheap top quality players whilst other clubs will start struggling due to economic mismatches and need to balance the books…however, the question is do we want to wait for 3yrs?
Anyway, that was my rant for the day – arsenal will finish 6th, we won’t be able to get top quality players in the summer as a result, given we didn’t act in January which was the last chance to fix this before there is serious long term implications all we can do now is watch and wait…

I want to be loyal fan to the club I support, but when the ‘leaders’ of that club are heading the club to another direction then you cant ask me to keep my loyalty in the club cuz the club isn’t the same anymore.
I dont think than AW and the board are blunt with the supporters. After all, the club is not there for them but they are there for the club. So, why are they making an average side of a great club?
Yes, we are living in a world that is going down economically, and we cant ask from them to pay ridiculous amounts for players, but knowing what they earned from selling 2 of or top 3 players they could have easily bought very good players to replace them and still make some money. ( if that is their philosophy).
But it appears to me that AFC is no longer a FC but a business that is meant to make some ppl not rich, but richer.

Stupid article.RVP is going to leave in the summer that is a FACT and so who is going to play upfront in ur better than 2008 team.Christ we can’t attract players even with CL football so who are we going to get without it?Spurs are so far ahead of us its not even funny, why? because they have a better manager and better players than us.I suggest u actually watch teams other than AFC and you will see how sh**te we really are.Either that or u know nothing about football.Oh and chelsea will be just fine;they are 5 points ahead of us and will spend big in the summer because they have ambition unlike us who only care about profits.

AW is not a tyrant but just insane and/or stubborn. for the past seven years he has been doing the same thing over and over, hoping to get a different result yet nothing happens. is it not time things changed? a young team that is growing indeed and once grown, the serious teams will come take them away. next in line RVP, Song. the future is really bleak for us fans. even the spuds are above us. this season, no trophy again and worst of all no CL football. mark my words

Wenger is not a tyrant but he needs to take a fair share of the blame. Tactically we are not the same as before. There is less movement and we rarely see triangles when passing let alone the occasional diamond. If you watched the old teams they were able to pass so well because there were always options even in our own penalty area. With our current formation there is a lack of this and it shows both offensively and on defense. If you watch Barcelona they both attack and defend with triangles allowing opponents to have little space and then can counterattack quickly from their mistakes. Wenger should have spent some more money because as we have already seen with Wilshire there will be more injuries. Also why will the top talent accept lower wages to not play Champions League (Arteta)? We missed a chance to shore up our team while the other major teams weren’t buying allowing us to qualify for Champions League, perhaps win the FA Cup and become more dangerous in Champions League. This also would have sent a clear message to Van Persie that we are serious about winning now. It just saddens me to know that we will finish 5th possibly squeak into 4th place when a few more buys would make the success we crave not look as many years off.

Your headline offered a question. Is Wenger a tyrant? I give you an astounding YES. Simple tactic that tyrants use to rule is divide and conquer technique. It is crystal clear that the GOONER nation is divided. There are AKBS like yourself who find no fault in Wenger(who are a minority) and well there are dissenting fans calling calling for his exit(who keep increasing by the day). Now to the best interest of the people phrase I believe in the best interest of Arsenal fans we should have signed atleast a natural fullback in January even Wenger admitted but it didn’t and that probably cost us nine points we lost all epl games in January then he knew Wilshere got a setback who did he sign? A player who fits his philosophy and not what GOONERS wanted.

Waleed, this entire article doesn’t make any sense. And just to pick some points from your article…
The tyrant, by definition, doesn’t care about what the people want. He is interested, usually, in gathering as much power and wealth as possible.
: – I guess supporters are always loud and clear that they want to invest in a team. Not to purchase any star players (as we CREATE them….Djouru, Bendtnar) but to invest in some descent players like Gorcuff, Samba. But he was busy feeding the board members and also must have made huge sum by doing so.
What Arsene Wenger wants, like any other manager, is glory.
:- His actions are exactly opposite of this and so as his words. Remember Champions league qualification is enough???
What I’m getting at is this: we need to ask questions of the manager, criticize him when he deserves it, and in turn he has to take responsibility for whatever the results are, but he is one of us
:- Are we not doing this from last 7 years ? And blaming referees, ground condition etc. crap, defending the worst players, worst decisions, blaming the luck (how come we are unlucky EVERY year and same luck excuse????????) etc. is you think “taking the responsibility” means?
There is no need for cynicism here, not against the man who works hard everyday to get us wins and trophies.
:- Ummmmm…..7 years again ?
asking money for the club is not what he wants, he doesn’t want us to be a mediocre club that only develops young players, he wants us to win titles.
:- Again, his actions are exactly in opposite direction. Or has he lost his mind then ?
And we’ve got a younger team, capable of improving year on year as long as our best players stay together.
:- What the hell you are talking about ? Jenkins, Yennaris, Afobe, Frimpong, Miguel etc. will take another 2 / 3 years, so as Gibbs. Diaby is crap. Djourou ??? No comments. Park ?
We have Szczesny, OX and Wilshere are in this category who will give us some strength next year. And our best player might not be with us next year.
So Wenger OUT!!!!!!!

Waleed that’s your oponion, but 90% of AFC fans don’t agree,
I think Wenger is a gunner & should go this summer, not because he didn’t sign any player this winter, not because he didn’t act quickly enough last summer when he knew players were leaving and ended with a knee jerk reaction buying average players, not because he brought the legend TH who is obviously not fit at all to play in the premier league, not because he subed the Ox with the ever useless Arshavin, not because he blame everything from grass size to global warming but not himself, the board or his players, not because he stick with long term injured players and below average ones and keep paying them fortune. not because the talented and young players seem to detoriarate lately under his management
it is because he had his chance to change every thing on the last 3 years ( I give him the other 4 or 5) and he failed to deliver.

yes sure pal. arsenal will recover,? like we did last night ? , cant keep relying on rvp to score, walcott had 2-3 clear chances .wasted them both, get a grip on the real world whats happening at arsenal, were getting weaker and weaker , while tottenham are gatting stronger, and buying more players or taking them on loan, they have, van der vaart, adebayor, defoe. gareth bale, modoric,. they can all score goals, and yet they still bring in saha on loan. thats what a positive thinking manager does, not like arsenal, we rely on rvp to much, and dont have any one else who can score goals as often , i.e. walcott, arshavin chamahk, gervhino, if we dont get a result at home on saturday to a weakened blackburn, then tell me we will improve soon. and they have a crap manager who believes his own words. like wenger, difference is we are a top 4 club, a premier league, fa cup winning team, champions league club, they r not, and with wenger in charge we wont be again, so to all u, in wenger i trust supporters ,take good long look at our season so far, beaten by a team jsut promoted, beaten by a team in relegation fight, selling palyers who were stars and made a difference to our team, and not buying anyone to replace them or , improve the team, a lucky win over , villa, no lwin in the league this season is all he has given us , and for one i say pllzz go now wenger take the board with u.

man you are in denial !! your article stinks of a tottenham supporter trying to rub all us arsenal supporters in the dirt.
this team at arsenal is relegation material, wengers philosophy is stale outdated and has never worked, and prove of this is check the statistics of the last six years where yu will see the decline of this club and team, and wengers comments get right up my nose like he said yesterday against bolton, we had the chances but we never took them we could have won this game, well why did’nt you? why cant wenger wake up and smell the cheese this team he has is a relegation team, the question remains where is the money from the sale of nasri, clichy, fabregas gone instead of buying cheap players or kids, the saying is you pay for what you get, and that has been proven by the performances as a manager he has to take resposibility and he has taken this team backwards we are fed up with his dubious tactics and substitutions, and then we have the idiot gazidis coming out and saying man city are jelaous of us !! what planet does he live on this arsenal team is weak has no depth, and is full of players that would not even make a championship team apart from rvp, and the ox so tell me with the performances i have seen to date this team next year will be fighting relegation, wenger is such a dip stick he was relying on willshire, as it has proved no one has been able to take his place wenger needs to get a grip and leave and take the board with him they have destroyed this club and taken us backwards all so they can line their own pockets

wat in d hell was Ramsey doing on d pitch till 80 mins yesternight when we hav Rosicky and Benny on d bench. D Ox is already ahead of Walcott technically and he is more confident. I’ll like Ox to replace Walcott when Gervinho returns. Arteta was massive yesterday, looking forward 2 Gibbs return, if he can get over his injuries like RVP did he is a class act. Better luck next time.

Wenger came out with the same bull about Adebayor and that loaning players should be just for young players.
Wenger: “What I would like to see in the Premier League is that you are not allowed to loan players over the age of 21.”
One would like to ask the prof “What about Benayoun? Why did you sign him then? Is his loan from chelsea to Arsenal any different to Adebayors from man city to tottenham really?” How much sh*te can one guy speak.

sad story to tired arsenal fans.comfort zones has always been postponed to the next season, only to be rendered to the world of oblivion. Wenger has the eyes of a hawk- to spot talents who eventually end up somewhere else.most systems use the previous output to determine new inputs. arsenal does the reverse. there input, does not necessarily reflect the output. they are stuck in those French originated philosophies comparable to Aristotle’s air borne castles.we as fans, don’t understand the limits of the arsenal system, maybe they want to achieve a Europa league victory or they fancy the Aston villa and Everton places in the middle table. if this is what they want-seemingly, yes!-then we are stoning wrong people whose vision of the club is below par. we might call for there heads, but all the answers lies with both the fans, Wenger, Ivan.G and Kroenke. with fans hungry for success, the board has shown no resolute for success not even an attempt to perform.but we can’t beat them- they call all the shots at club level, cry! or laugh!, neigh! squirl! but the answer remains, if you can’t beat them, then Join them. however everything that has the beginning, has an end! before the end comes, I leave you with four words.” no pain, no gain”
arsenal is good. its the times that are bad.

Well I don’t try to defend Wenger but rather try to justify to myself that the powers that be truly care about the dirrection of the club. Its no longer possible for me to do that. I remember some months ago a qoute from Wenger saying that the transfer markets were soon going to be “depressed”. I figured that is when our financial policy would pay of and we could take the market by storm with the funds we are told we have. Well that never happend. After seeing how the winter window panned out it did looked like it was “depressed” but maybe that was down to star players not wanting to move untill summer. IF that was the case then other moves could have been made without draining whatever, if any, funds are being held for those transfer targets. I for one would have liked a move for Dempsey. We obviously are playing slower football so I think he would have made more of an impact as a left side sub that Arshavin. Then we could have rotated Rosiscky, Ramsey, and Arshavin in the hole behind RVP. If Arshavin still didn’t contibutr anything in that spot than we could still try to sell in summer and probably get what we paid for Dempsey. Also am I the only one who thinks Vela should have been kept this year? I know he hasn’t scored but maybe a handful of goals this year and is FAR from prolofic but he must have been a better third option than Park. Right? Also I hope to see Diaby get atleast 2 months of playing time before years end. How other clubs need to see him play a little, or its gonna be impossible to try to put him on the market.

The return of Henry was simply meant to divert fans attention because Wenger was not prepared to add any star player to the squad.I hate him for using the revered Henry to play such trick. It is obvious we need another striker but Arsene refuse to buy and continue to deny us our happiness. So he is a tyrant. He has destroyed the perfect club he inherited and there is nothing left than for him to go with the much money he has made to allow a rebiulding process.I can’t imagine arsenal in 7th position,HOLY SHIT,what a disaster.

our game against bolton ended in a draw and for that we must brand the manager as having out lived his usefulness. But Chelsea that did draw their game and man city lost have not come out against their managers. Again there is more in the running a club with regards to the selling and buying of players that we the fans do not know. pls, do not pass judgement on the team or any individual when you do not have all the information. We all have the right to express our frustrations and view but we equally need to respect the other person.
