Was yesterday’s debacle the last straw for Robin Van Persie?

Posted on January 23, 2012 by admin

The Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie was yet again the goalscorer for the Gunners yesterday, but for the FIFTH time this season the Dutchman has scored but Arsenal have gone on to lose the game.

Arsenal have now lost three games in a row and Van Persie has been the one player that has held the team together all season, but there were signs of open mutiny when Wenger’s captain gesticulated to the manager when he substituted Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in yesterday’s game.

Van Persie has persistently stated he won’t discuss a contract extension until the end of the season, but with Arsenal now looking unlikely to win a trophy or even make the Champions League places, has he already made his mind up to leave the club?

There were rumours last night that Van Persie was so annoyed that he put in a transfer request after the game (which was turned down of course) but can anyone seriously see him staying beyond this season after yesterdays debacle?

I was told yesterday that without Van Persie’s goals this season, Arsenal would find themselves in the bottom four of the Premiership. What will Wenger do next season if he leaves?

Would not be a suprise if he leaves i still cant believe he missed that sitter 7 yards out against man utd. Wenger needs to spend minimally to get this team back on track we cant rely on players returning from injury to push us into the top 4

We hope not as he is the glue at Arsenal, at the moment. AW made a very bad call. He has to now buy quality to keep RvP and others. Maybe he must clear out- Walcott (headless chicken) Squillacci (even give away) Arshavin (no where and not interested), Chamakh (just plain kak) and Djourou ( way below par).
Must get in LB, atatcking midfielder and decent striker. how much longer do we as staunch suppoters need to express our thoughts and feelings when it is plain to see?
Come on AW, make us happy and proud again.

If you or I went to work everyday and felt the others around us were not putting in the effort we were we’d quickly give up out of frustration.. rvp will do the same if he doesn’t get support soon, which doesn’t look likely.. his face said it all after that sub.. almost like that someone at work got a pay rise or promotion while you didn’t working your but off.

It’s time for wenger to move on without wenger. I can’t see the gunners winning anything for the next few years with the current set up

Oh well, here we are again…

The lack of quality in the Arsenal team yesterday was embarrasing, we have been reduced from a title-chasing team, to a team praying for a top 4 finish, but coming to the realisation that Europa league is probably where we will end up.

I think Van-Persie loves Arsenal, but in that split second yesterday when the 4th official held up the Ox’s number to be substituted, i think that was the final straw in his decision to sign a new contract or go.

So, next season, we know we will get the normal rubbish from Wenger and Arsenal about signing new players (has everyone noticed this normally happens when the season ticket renewals are sent out??)… and we will then bring in more youngsters, or ‘past-their-sell-by-dae’ players.

This transfer window will pass by with only the signing of Henry on loans, a calculated and manipulative decision to appease the fans, and make us forget about the fact we only have 1 decent striker…

I dont agree in boo’ing the team, we need to show Arsenal our disgust at the way the team is being destroyed for financial gain, the only way to do this is to hit the board where it hurts….

Do not buy drinks or food inside the ground, do not buy merchandise from the club shops…. lets show them that we have has enough at the under-investment in the club we love.

  19. Nick says:

I am disgusted right now because I feel that we, the fans, are lied to. Wenger saying the Ox was ill is nothing short of scandelous. What happened, did he have some bad water @ halftime? He looked fine for 75 F’ing minutes and was inspiring when other far more experienced like Theo were not. If Arsene can’t come out and tell us the truth, “I’ve said before that AA is a game changer and I believed he had something to offer. Clearly I was wrong” then he needs to go. There’s nothing worse to me than people who make every excuse they can instead of taking responsibility for their actions. AA should offer up his apology for allowing the second goal to happen and pretty much for the past 1.5 seasons. Nobody get off light here though, RVP should really apologize for missing that open goal chance he had to level the game 2-2.

If I’m RVP, I’m out of there. The club is showing not ambition, no realization of what we actually need to be successful vs. what Arsene’s theory of what we need is. No trophies, no CL, nothing. Anyone else in Arsene’s position would be fired. How far will we have to fall for something to be done?

I don’t mean to upset anyone when I say this but I think AW and his time have run their course. How many years have we gone without a trophy? I can’t think of too many clubs that would have stuck by a manager for so long who has failed to deliver when so much is expected. I suspect that the move from Highbury to Emirates dented the funds at the club more than we know. I also think David Dein leaving the board had some impact upon Wenger. Reality is that the board have to acknowledge that to compete at the top we need to spend and get in some real quality. If AW is going to stop acting tight fisted there are some real bargains out there. I would be straight on the phone to the that tax dodger Redknapp and get Steven Pienaar. He would add some much needed bite in the middle, is great going forward and is not afraid of making a tackle (unlike Walcott). The boy at Lyon is an obvious target and there are others that we could easily get. Either Arshavin goes now or Wenger goes…Simple as the meerkat would say.

I have always backed AW, but I am not so sure in him anymore. It was a blatant mistake to take OX off. To replace him with Ars(E)havin is mind boggling! Its one thing to think AW knows best, but he isn’t God. He is not correct 100% of the time. But he acts as though he believes he is. Hate to say it, but I think his time at Arsenal must be up. Because at this point in time, either he leaves or RVP does. I’m afraid it will be the latter, and that will be a true loss. We have managed to get rid of all the top players we have had at arsenal (whether they chose to go or not is irrelevant). Yes we have cash in the bank to buy …. BUT WE DON’T! AW keeps saying the cash is there, but we don’t retain our quality, nor go looking for it! It is total madness. Please AW, explain your strategy here? If we were at the top of the table … Sure, we would all say “AW knows best”, but the fact is, whatever you are doing is NOT working. One loss here or there, and you could blame it on the ref, luck or whatever. But this trend in the decline of our club must fall with the decisions you are making. Even those who supported you thus far are losing hope (I’m one of them). If AW had admitted he made a mistake … Forgivable. But to remain so arrogant and stubborn is trully showing his colours. I wonder whether we would be better off with someone who would learn from their mistakes. (Look at David Moyse. Everton are a stuggling club, and he is somehow remaining somewhat competitive. Respect. Imagine what he could do with the Kitty AW has to work with!). As I have stated in a previous post – something has to change – maybe its AW.

I still think its unfair on Arshavin that fans where booing him right from the start. I mean, come on, how do you expect to perform when you’re booed before you even touch the ball? It was NOT his fault period. I actually sympathise for him because he deserves better. True that he has had a bad run of form, but if you really call yourselves Arsenal supporters you get behind the team no matter what! The people who really deserve the booes are Wenger (maybe) and the board (definitely). Wenger made a bad decision to bring in Arshavin for the Ox, it should have been bring in Arshavin and take Walcott out.

I hope the board were squirming in their seats when RVP looked aghast at the OX-Arshavin decision. I hope they realise that things have gotten much, much, much more serious.

its not the first time RVP has been perplexed and angry at arsene wengers decisions. I recall he was apparently “stunned” to learn that wenger was not going to buy any quality players during the summer and only panic bought following the 8-2 defeat by the mancs.
RVP may love the ship but he wont sail in it under the captain of the titanic!
If you take RVP out of arsenals results it puts us way down the table. Remember the form after the carling cup final was relegation form, so i would advise fans to expect a slide down the table from now on. A Europa cup place may be difficult to achieve as i believe wenger has probably lost the dressing room now. Our only hope is that wenger leaves ASAP, a new manager may be able to convince the players that its worth staying.

I don’t know why AW continues to do this to the club. He has £50 million at his disposal, why not spend on quality? The league or top 4 at that won’t be attained with players like Djorou, Chamakh, Arshavin, Park, Ramsey etc. We need new proper signings. Get Gotze, Podolski, a competent LB and no Santos doesn’t pass either, and then we’ll be somewhere. Till then i advocate for a new manager and new philosophy. In 16 years, AW’s success only came in the first 8 Years. After that it’s been downhill and that should say something. Arsenal is not going to win anything with Wenger at the helm key word NOT!!!

I think I’m the only fan that WANTS Vp to go, to the highest bidder. We will never win anything with him as the lone striker, no workrate, no pace, ok.. He scores… and we still lose. The most overrated player in the league.

Sagna, Artetta, Wilshere and Gerviniho back for AC Milan. Keep the faith. Who needs a Top 4 when you can win the Champions League.

You all can say what u want about Arsene Wenger. I still luv and respect the man and what he has done for us.

With that said, there is only ONE coach in world football who can take over for Wenger.. (And don’t u dare say jose mourinho, his pesonality is horrible and he is a bad sportsman). The ONLY man hu can take over at Arsenal is the coach hu only signs 1year contracts at FC Barcelona.
    His name is Guisepp Guardiola!!

Whether RVP stays or goes is not the issue..If you look at the number of chances lost in the box by AFC..you will be shocked!!We have simply lost it!My blame goes directly to Wenger and his philosopies..If you play a guy out of his normal[comes naturally]position..They are lost!Arsha,Wal,Cham,Gerv all of them…Its a PITY

Simple! Fans should Boycott all Arsenal Matches to send a message to the board, it’s not about their whims and caprices alone, they should also consider the fans too. Buy now or risk not making top four. How funny! Talking about making top four and not winning the league, What a shame!

I’m not sure what relationship that AW has with the players at my beloved club so I can’t judge. What I do know is that as a fan, it is so easy to spot the dead weight. My problem is that AW must be favoring his relationship with these crap players over his own drive and ambition to be the best manager nd make Arsenal the greatest club ever. I’m annoyed. Now Van persie will jump ship and he deserves to! Wtf is this? One man in double figures while we have dis chump chamackh, arshavin, walcott and an unknown quantity in park not doing the stuff? Man, I love da club nd wenger but enough is enough. I want usmanov nd my donnie guardiola.

@ Machine Gunner, just like wenger, you are living in the past. Wenger definitely has done well in the past for Arsenal but almost rest of the world now knows it is time to move on (wenger and few of you do not know that yet and it baffles me). Yes wenger got us up the table from almost relegation zone earlier this season, but it was wenger that took us down to the relegation zone in the first place.
I do not doubt for a second that wenger is a world class coach. But the problem with the man is that he has refused to understand that change is constant.
He has refused to change and adapt with the current trend and he has ultimately been left behind.
IT IS MADNESS TO DO SAME THING (ALL VARIABLES CONSTANT) OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND EXPECT DIFFERENT RESULT.
He needs to loose his pride, arrogance and stubbornness for the good of the club. He is stuck to his guns just because he does not want people to say that the professor finally dropped his polices and philosophies.
He has forgotten what his primary objectives are.. WINING TROPHIES !!!!! and we have won none for about 7 seasons now.
ITS IS OBVIOUSLY TIME FOR A CHANGE AT ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB. every other person knows and sees this fact but wenger.
