We know Van Persie’s talks have stalled, but no-one’s talking about Walcott’s contract?
Arsene Wenger is constantly having to field questions about whether Robin Van Persie will be renewing his contract at Arsenal this summer, with Wenger pledging to do whatever he can to convince the Dutchman to stay, but why is no-one talking about Theo Walcott’s contract.
The English winger’s deal at the Emirates ends at exactly the same time as Van Persie’s, and as everyone has suddenly started noticing, Walcott has been highly instrumental in providing the assists for Van Persie’s goals this season and is arguably just as important a member of the team when he is on form (like recently).
Walcott said last month: “I will listen to what Arsenal have to say. Hopefully we will sit down with the club soon and talk things over.”
What is this “hopefully”? That doesn’t sound too promising does it? Could it be that Theo is also waiting to see if any success is forthcoming before deciding where his future lies? Or could he simply be waiting to find out what Van Persie does before committing himself?

on topic: i think the club does what he can to get a new deal with the players but as a fact, we know, the players and their advisors are greedy c*nts. they are scanning the market for the best offers.

arsenal will just continue to pay diaby 60k, chamack 65k, almunia 60k, squillaci 55k, rosicky 70k. . . when that money should be redirected in to keeping van persie, walcott etc players we actually need? ? ? ? ?

Its just as important, but correct me if I am wrong. Don’t the board offer the contract before the last year but the guys refuse to sign or hold out for more money, hence forcing the hand of the club. I do believe that a bit more loyalty to the club and the manager needs to be displayed by the players. Which other manager would have been so patient with Theo and his inconsistent performances in the past.
On the other hand the board needs to understand that football has moved forward and the wage cap needs to be raised, in order to keep quality players and maintain quality players. Though I understand that the total expenditure on a player constitutes the payment of the weekly wages over the period of the contract. When we calculate that, we tend to see why we are unable to pay high fees for a player and also his wages.
Try calculating 23 million for mata plus 130000 pounds a week for 5 years. 33800000 for wages + bonuses and the transfer fee. Imagine that cost for 5 players then we can really look at the ramifications it can have for a club, especially if we dont make champions league.
