Wenger – A three match ban is just ridiculous

Posted on February 28, 2010 by admin

Arsene Wenger was very angry at losing Aaron Ramsey to a “horrendous” tackle from Ryan Shawcross in last nights win over Stoke, and believes that the Stoke defender should get a longer ban than the usual three games given for a sending-off.

“He is the third player we have lost to tackles that are not acceptable – Abou Diaby, Eduardo and now Ramsey today. That is not football for me and I refuse to live with that.

“I cannot do anything about it. The players are professional they have to respect the rules and each other. The players who don’t do it have to be punished. Ramsey is a young, fantastic talent.”

“A three-match ban is just ridiculous. But I would prefer to give my support to Ramsey rather than to play the judge. For a boy of 19 with his talent to be kicked out of the game like that is beyond words. I cannot even enjoy the win tonight because it is so sad to see that.”

Wenger expects the young Welsh international to be out of the game for at least the rest of this season: “It is a bad fracture. He will be transferred to London tonight to see if he needs emergency surgery. He will be out for a long time.” he said.

Shawcross is adamant that he had no malice in the tackle, and immediately apologised. He said: “There was absolutely no malice in the challenge. I would never, ever go out to hurt a fellow professional.”

“I am deeply upset that Aaron has suffered such a bad injury and my thoughts are with him. I would like to send him my best wishes too for a speedy recovery.”

Yet again the Arsenal injury jinx strikes once again, but now I have seen the replays a few times, I’m not sure that it was a vicious tackle, and I don’t think Shawcross meant to hurt him.

I don’t think he went to maliciously injure Ramsey.
However I do think the vast majority of teams use the word “commitment” as an excuse for over physical challenges.

3 broken legs in 5 years says it all…

  2. vijay says:

You think Arsenal is “jinxed”? Are you insane? Perhaps you believe in an extant Elvis, pixies, and that crossed black cats are overinfluential on the luck front.

Get a grip. We get kicked … a lot … consequentially our players get injured. You might as well be say Ramsey’s injury was “approved by God”.

vijay: I have checked with feng shui master and he affirmed that the Emirates Stadium’s location is inauspicious as the vital ‘Qi’ is blocked by surroundings.

  4. Sam says:

The tackle might not seem malicious, but it was certainly over the top.

This is not the first bad tackle by Shawcross, he has previously fractured the leg of Francis Jeffers, and almost broke the ankle of Adebayor.

The main problem is the Kick Arsenal campaign perpetrated some teams of thugs and supported some bastard pundits. Ricardo Fuller recently talked of “roughing up” Arsenal before the FA cup game. It was only a matter of time that another of our player got a leg broken after Diaby & Eduardo. Shame on these thugs.

  5. Cyril says:

I think the officiating refrees and the coaches of EPL teams should be held responsible for Arsenal’s injury problems.

  6. adaminho says:

it is crazy that breaking someones leg gives you the same ban as for pulling someones shirt as the last man! not all red cards are the same!

  7. koma says:

Pole to ol the gunner’s family,God willingly we shall see Rambo back like DIABY bt surely it is hard to take.
And that is the negative attitude towards the beauty of Arsenal’s sexy football and the negative attitude towards foreing players in England,n now the media is quite bt gunners are gone de reward 4 RAMBO thro’trophy, surely RAMBO ur reward is in pipeline,we shall miss u on the bt nt in spirit.

  8. kman says:

WHAT THE STOKE CITY CAPTAIN DID,IS NOT INTENSIONAL BECAUSE HE WEPT BITTERLY AND REACTION SHOWS THAT HE REGRETED THE ROUGH TACKLE HE GAVE TO RAMSEY. EVEN IF WE SAY LIFE BANED, CAN IT CHANGE RAMSEY SITUATION NOOO, LET LOOK FORWARD ON HOW HE WILL GET BETTER TREATMENT AND BE BACK ON ACTION WHEN HE IS FIT. ALL THESE HAPPEN IN FOOTBALL ONLY IT’S NOT COMMON.
