Wenger admits that he will sign defender until end of season – Bridge anyone?
Arsene Wenger has constantly admitted that he just needed a “short-term” solution to Arsenal’s defensive injury problems, and he has now made it clear that he will be taking someone on until the end of the season.
Wenger said: “I do not want to go for a permanent solution because we have to pay all these people as well,”
“But if I can, yes I will get a loan player until the end of the season.
“Vermaelen should be back, not for Swansea next weekend, but after that,”
Roberto Mancini also admitted this weekend that he expected Wayne Bridge to have found a new club in the next few days, and Wolves and QPR have been linked with the England full-back recently, but there is little hope of either of those clubs being able to match even half Bridges wages.
At least Arsenal can get somewhere near the 90,000 weekly wage he expects, and also Bridge is the best available left-back with Premiership experience. Who thinks that this will be a done deal this week?

I can see this happening though I don’t think we will cover half his wages. This may just work in our favour because Bridge will now have a point to prove.

This is a real conundrum….We are short of defenders, we don’t want to buy, so the only other option is to take someone on loan for a month or so. It’s no use getting someone who has not played in the Premiership and there are few managers out there who would give us one of their top defenders, so therefore there are few options. We either take a chance on what we have, the mighty Squill, or we take on Bridge as a stop gap. While neither of these options are ideal, Mr Bridge would be the best of two evils, so…with both fingers crossed, eyes crossed, toes crossed, maybe we will have to loan “he should not be named” for the duration.

Quite amusing really….actually read one respected blogger whose reason for rejecting Bridge as a short termer was because his goal against us in a final or something….I would have thought the ability for a left back to score a goal would be a positive thing in a CV….but there you go! A left back with EPL experience vs Squillaci?????? Hmmmm poor performance for West Ham aside (even RvP has a poor shift now and then) no brainer really – Oh…and he hates John Terry…that cant be a bad thing can it?

i dont rate Bridge now, but everyone should calm down. TV5 is soon back, its for cover only. He may play the odd game, its the best player we will get on loan. Wenger will stick with Tv5 at left back with mert and kos in the middle. Then we have santos and gibbs back then he will be 4th choice at left back. If he comes lets get behind him and hope he does a job when required.

i cannot see the point, we have many players coming back and unless we sign an u21 or a homegrown player, we would have to de-list a foreign player. as it stands we have players coming back at different times, i expect the next matches back 4′s to look like this
leeds – coquelin mertesacker koscielny miquel
swansea – djourou mertesacker koscielny miquel/coquelin
man u – djourou mertesacker koscielny vermaelen
according to wenger sagna and gibbs will be back by the end of jan so unless he is lying i expect them to play in the next round of the cup or against bolton
personally i would play coquelin at right back for leeds and swansea with koscielny at left back and miquel alongside per. swansea have very pacy wingers so getting coq and kos settled in for that by playing them there against leeds is essential.

Bridge was very poor on his loan to west ham last season. He also hasn’t played in a while. I think it would be a bad idea. Better options. Get someone who can fill in at left back for a week or two until gibbs is fit then use him to replace squillaci.

If we get Gibbs back or another player he will not sign anyone. He will see it out till the last day….if no one is close (like two weeks away) from coming back, then and only then, will he sign a player…if someone is close he will not!

Why not sign a permament quality left back and loan gibbs out for the rest of the season. However Wenger truly seems to lack the hunger to go about business aggressively now days which has seen us lose so many players. He used to spend around £30-40m in the transfer windows in the late 90′s which is quite a lot and look at how that paid off. Now days buying a player for £15m is a major deal for us. Even spuds are looking to break the record. Need someone with more ambitoin to really buy players. Let wenger handle the team, let someone else handle the signings with some input from wenger. Maybe bring in Mr Tony Adams to buy players or even better dennis bergkamp who is fully qualified coach now

we dont want or need bridge. we have capable youngsters to fill in while we wait for the experienced guys to return. bridge is way overpaid, and am sure he wont take a pay cut to come to us for a loan period. how can AW justify to our squad players paying a slow, overrated greedy man shitty player 90k a week. id rather see a youth player at LB than bridge, comon arsene things aint that bad

we rather buy baines loan out gibbs because when santos comes he wont have a chance of playing. baines is absolutely fabulous they can play together with santos especially the fact that santos can attack we can push him into our left mid when we want to play a defensive game. i dont believe in other teams flop.like bridge he just like squillaci is to us or even nasri is to city. buy top talent not second best.

Am I the only Arsenal fan that thinks Roman Pavlyuchenko from Spurs would be a good buy. Spurs havent given him a chance and watching the sorts of goals he scores give him the ball anywhere in the box and he will put it in. I dont know about fellow fans but I think he will be a great addition. In midfield Walcott has to go flog him dont need him. Ox or Miyachi are natural wingers. Podolski in the summer is a good buy. Sessengon for a Walcott replacement. Umm Left Back is the main issue I dont know of any great left backs available for loan in the premier league. Get Michel Bastos buy him. Splash the cash Wenger.

Squillaci is the WORST defender to ever put on an arsenal shirt – that includes all the fans who play in local leagues, as soon as I see his stupid face I know we will lose the game.
Wayne Bridge may suffice as emergency cover if he wasnt demanding such rediculous wages – most Arsenal fans would much prefer to see a youngster promoted from within the club, or continue with Coquelin who has shown more effort than most of the others put together!

Injuries cannot be legistlated for, however inept and stupid transfer activity/inactivity should alway be held to account. Wenger in my eyes has been hopeless in properly addressing our defence since the days of keown, campbell, lehman etc…..
The fact is loan signing or not for LB, AW has neglected the defence department as a whole. We clearly need a rugged aerial type like Samba but instead have invested in technically proficient but defensively suspect defenders (mertesacker, Squillaci).
That we have injuries we do is not wengers fault, that we have the poor defensive record thus far, is.

For me the only answer would have been another loan signing from the MLS, like Henry coming in while the MLS off season is in full swing. In terms of timing that is the best short term option. The quality is a different matter, no top class defender is going to be available for a 2 month loan unless the manager finds them impossible to deal with. Bridge was terrorised by Walcott whilst he was on loan at West Ham. He is nowhere near good enough to play for us.

If he takes a serious pay cut and were only paying a part of his wages maybe. He’s not the solution to our problems but Wenger doesn’t seem to truly want to address them otherwise AA and Chamakh would be packing their bags and Podolski and Gotze or Hazard would be on their way to the best part of London! Plus we would’ve signed 2/3 of Samba, Cahill and Baines back before August 1.
The only plus would be as others have said that hopefully he’s got a point to prove and maybe he’ll get after it and prove he wants a spot on some team, even if it isn’t Arsenal. My gut though tells me he’s happy making the money he does at moneybags city and not playing.
Sell the Squid now at whatever price someone will pay and buy Samba. Isn’t Baines injured for 6 weeks? I thought I read that

Mr wenger is right we just need a short term defender, and the boys needs to step it up they have potential especially when everybody is back from injury…respect wenger he brought the unique soccer and class to the club. Next season will be our season look at city, chelsea and Liverpool they spent big but they are not as dominant as barca or real in the league .

Buy: Taiwo, Sessegnon, A.Johnson and Podolski
Sell: Squid, Arshavin and Chamakh
Loan: Gibbs and Miquel
We can use Taiwo on LB untill Santos comes back. Then he could be a backub CB cuz he can play there too and he proved that in Marseille.
Sessegnon would speed up our play and he is much much better than useless Walcott. An even better option is Johnson who is clearly not given much playing time in Man city and is quite younger than Sess.
Also make a bid for Podolski around 20ml and play a 4-4-2 formation with van persie and podolski up front.
