Wenger – Arsenal still lack maturity and experience

Early this season, Arsene Wenger was adamant that his young Arsenal team were now old enough and mature enough to bring the long wait for a trophy to an end, but now that the Gunners have now won just one of their last eight games, he says they are still lacking the necessary mental toughness to get past the last hurdles. He admitted that their chance of winning the title is all but gone with both Man Utd and Chelsea pulling away.

“The chances are very minimal now, that is for sure.” Wenger said. “But we have to continue to fight. It is true that we have dropped too many points today.

“It is very frustrating because we should have nine points from this week and we have two. That’s a little bit the story of our season.

“The facts are the facts. I feel the players have had an outstanding attitude during the whole season and they are not to blame. If there is someone to blame, it is me. I pick the team and I choose the players. For me, the players have had an outstanding attitude all season.

“Yes, it is very unsatisfactory because that is one of the easiest run-ins we have had for a long time. We didn’t take our chances many times during the season and that is frustrating because you feel that the potential is there. But we live in a job where you have to take your chances and be realistic. We still lack something that is called maturity, experience or calmness in important situations.”

So now we all need to know if all the current players will suddenly grow a set before next season, or if they will still be immature for a few more seasons…….

    They lack the players with the ability to defend set pieces not maturity. Tony Adams could head a ball away from a corner at 18 and so could Martin Keown. It’s not a calmness or maturity thing it’s we need better centre backs thing.

    Maturity comes at different stages for different players. There will always be an excuse. Some are new to the team, some are young, some need more confidence. Its all crap, if you are good enough you win.
    If not you dont.

    Messi isnt old or mature, he is simply brilliant. Rooney is more mature but for me he isnt the player he was. He’s had the nutter taken away from him and as a result hes not nearly as exciting as he was. He has been changed.

    Denilson is now mature (after 4-5 years at the club), but has gone backwards. Clichy is mature, but cant cross a ball. Sagna runs like a headless chicken but none of it effective. When will the team be classed as mature? In testimonial year?

    It’s simply they are not good enough to make the team successful. At least not successful in the eyes of the fans. In the eyes of Wenger they are.

    He struggles to handle players with big egos and is quite happy to manage young talent that want to have a chance to play under his guidance and then move on when the time is right.

  4. Some players are not good enough.we need brilliant players not sh#ts like clichy,sagna, bendtner,chamakh,diaby,denilson and the rest of them.clichy has been playing for us 4 about 5 years and uptill he can’t cross ball.bull sh#t

    At least he’s finally admitting he’s wrong and there’s something wrong with the team. Maturity and experience can’t be ‘bred’ into the team in a few months, so this means he will be buying in the summer.

    Clichy was crap yesterday. Get Gibbs in, he’s English and we need that mentality.

  7. downfall of arsenal…. how wenger ruined arsenal…

    started in 2006, last game vs everton and get the top 4 spot. lose against barcelona in CL final, wenger sub pires out after lehnman technically foul sent off.
    sol campbell got a header and we actually leading, but in the end 2 short distance goal score by barca end the quest. note* its almunia who the keeper in barca match.

    2007 Carling cup final arsenal vs chelsea.
    wenger sent out his entire teenager to be slaughter and gang banged by chelsea strongest squad. strange things happened!! walcott netted in a goal. but in the end drogba single handed destroy us with 2 goal.

    2008 this could probably the best year of last 6 years.
    fabregas,flamini,helb,rosicky , 4fcukingsome , and eduordo nasri adebayor as strike force, things is looked good for arsenal. ending of the season, eduordo broke his legs, gallas sitting protest, arsenal crushed.
    JUST like that, we ended up from top of the table to third of the table.

    2009 and 2010 two season of wonder-ing
    eboue promoted as winger, 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 its all i can remember, 4 0-0 draw in a row in this 2 years. and PSV alex centre defender ( currently at chelsea) single handed destroy us in CL. * i think this is 2008 but hey.. nvm.. liverpool , manchester united,barcelona crush us in CL.

    birmingham destroy us in carling cup ( meaningless trophy in wenger opinion ) 2-1 thx to kos and sneezing.
    4-4 2-3 2-3 1-1 does this number look familiar?

    2011-2012 if wenger still in arsenal.. he clearly saying he wont splash on big name , but fund will be available if suitable player is available *
    ( this actually means we will buying player like kos, squillaci again!! ) Get it?

    NOTE nasri score a BRACE against manchester united in his debut season in 1 match. Where were he in his next 2 season? obviously he trying to fit the arsenal way, which is the wenger way, pass pass pass pass x 1000 and then nick the ball in front of the scoreline. which is basically ruined his talent for long shooting and a goal score opportunity.

    this is basically what happen to arshavin, wenger make them fit * the arsenal way and ruined their individual talent/skill.

    hindsight is such a wonderful thing….
    but
    just go back to last august when a 4.5 million bid was put in to buy mark swartzer from fulham
    hughes and AW dislike each other with a passion – so hughes whacked the price up by a mere 500k
    mr stubborn refused to budge (despite the player broadcasting his wish to join, whilst in his native australia)
    so for a paltry sum – we endured the goalkeeping nonsense of the almunia / fabianski show…
    a strong minded and secure keeper will not only gain you points over the course of a season (van der saar a point in question) but will also & more importantly spread confidence throuhout those in front of him…some of that twitchyness we have seen so often this term would have evaporated

    add to this the early loss of vermaelen and you have two massive reasons for this seasons demise
    shame — so so very close

    wenger is crazy ,it’s a fact … what exactly did he expect when he sold gallas,toure,adebayor, and other established players ? …instead of adding experienced players he sells experienced players and then he bitches around that he’s team lacks experience … DAMN RIGHT THEY LACK EXPERIENCE..who’s to blame ? WENGER … who bitches around ? WENGER … who can do something about it ? WENGER …who’s a stubborn donkey and won’t do anything about it ? WENGER …. is this guy for real ?,i had enough of this guy

    Dear Wenger, you and Pat Rice can guide them during the training. But on the pitch and during the match, you will find players like Henry, Vieira, Giggs and Scholes still doing their job to guide and lift the younger players. However, you choose a more steep learning curve for our team by not buying quality leaders mentioned.

    The fans want results instead of pointing finger.

    You know what we are lacking off and yet you go and buy another dozen of 15 years old kid with promising talent. But where is the guidance on the pitch during the game?

    Stop buying young boy, ok?
    You can do so, after you have the maturity and experience needed on the pitch.
    How can someone setup a school without teacher first and having student first? Are the student suppose to learn themselves? If yes, why not they learn from home?

    Maturity FFS we are not talking of players that have just broken into the first team we are talking international players who have been playing together for years. its not maturity its some are just not good enough while others are not trully commited to the club.

    time to revamp sell the fringe players and if players like Nasri and Cesc are not with us then sell and buy the players to lead and fight to the very end. Time to Back Wenger or Sack him i hope they see you need a mixture of youth and experience to win things.

    Here is what Wenger needs to do. Sell: Almunia-1.5M, Schillachi-3M, Denilson-10M, Ashavin-12M, Rosicky-4M, Bendtner-12M, Chamakh-15M, Abou Diaby 12M and Vela-8M (89.5 + 40M =129.5)

    Bring in Maarten Stekelenburg-12M, Sokho-12M, Moussa Sissoko-10M, Gorkhen Inker-8M, Harzard-25M, Pappis Cisse-13M, One from Radamel Falcao, Edison Cavani or Fernardo Llorient-25M Total-92M, The rest of the saving we love to do can be used to finance the wage budget additions.

    This is a winning team that will not affect the youth policy much, and will stabilize the squad and bring in new earnings – from winning actual cups that will even allow Arsenal more earning from gate and merchandize collections. It will hardly lack maturity, experience and calm in IMPORTANT situations. What will it matter if you conceded six goals but scored 15? And it will not change our football principles. All these guys will still play Wenger Ball.

    I agree on the age factor vs. quality arguement.

    Just look at players like Messi, Pedro, Sergio Ramos, CR7, Ozil, Angel di Maria and Tony Adam (when he started). They are/were so young when they start to deliver quality.

    Players like Bendtner, Denilson, Diably aren’t going to deliver the same quality like those above. FULL STOP.
