Wenger – Arsenal were caught cold, but what a great effort to come back!
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says his team were “caught cold” in the first five minutes of the game against Standard Liege, but praised his team for putting in the effort to come back against a very motivated opponent.
He told Sky Sports: “It was hard work because we got a big blow from the start, we were 2-0 down.
“They started sharper maybe, they caught us cold. We were a bit slow at the start and they took advantage of it.
“What happened to us can happen to any team in the world, and to win a game against a very motivated team you need to work very hard and that’s what we did.
“We put every effort into coming back to win. Certainly getting to 2-1 just before half-time helped. We had no choice but to give everything in the second 45 minutes.
“We had a lot of possession (in the second half) and in every single one-against-one they put everything in, and that made it difficult. It was a very difficult game.
“I look at the list of players who did not play tonight and I believe this tells you a lot about our squad and our spirit. Three difficult points, that is a very good start for us.
“After two disappointments in the league, it was very important for us to win tonight.”
It certainly looked like the Gunners were aiming for their third defeat in row, but you can’t deny it, it was a brilliant comeback!

without top players again if only hey. we would have trashed them easy as that full stop.
defence caught out again, no substitute keeper, well good enough. if we are going to win we NEED A KEEPER NOW.
Nice thinking Rob, 5 goalkeepers = instant success!!! You should be president of everything.
