Wenger – Arsenal’s youngsters battled well but were a bit naive in defence
Arsene Wenger rotated his team as expected for the game against Man City last night, and although he thinks his youthful Arsenal squad played with “heart, quality and desire”, he feels that they were a bit naive when it came to Sergio Aguero’s winning goal just seven minutes from the end of the game.
Without the Gunners talismanic captain Robin Van Persie Wenger thinks the team “lacked creativity” going forward and the defence failed to do its job when the crucial counter-attack came along.
He said: “It was an unfair result but I felt we were a bit naive because it was a corner for us and a goal for them. I knew that we were in trouble and I feel we didn’t take enough time to take the corner because Djourou was just going up front and he had to stay at the back on the corner. We didn’t leave him enough time to come back and that’s where we were caught.
“I felt as well that we didn’t take the corners very well but overall what is frustrating that we lost a game at the moment that we looked the winner. It is frustrating because we put a lot of effort in and we were not rewarded. On the other hand I feel that considering the youth of our midfield we have battled really well and have shown some fantastic quality.
“I feel in midfield Frimpong did well, Coquelin did well, we battled very hard in there. We were mobile, strong in the fight, we did very well I must say. Sometimes we lacked a little bit of creativity in the final third, especially in the last 20 minutes when I felt there was plenty of room to give them big problems and we missed sometimes the experience in the final ball. But I cannot fault the team, they have shown heart, quality and desire. At the end of the day it is frustrating for the players that they are not rewarded.
“I felt we made it easy for them. They had a clear-cut chance and you couldn’t see them missing. They played very well but I felt we were a bit naïve because we could stop that at the start of that move. You cannot let them get on a run like that. Overall, I felt that we were naïve and you can call that bad luck. But I don’t believe in luck. I believe we had to stop the counter-attack and you know when you are on a corner, that is your job when you are a defender. You have to stop that.”
Arsenal are already too far behind the leaders in the Premiership, and Wenger admitted that he was hoping to go all the way in the Carling Cup this year to try and win his first trophy after a six year drought. But, as always, Wenger tried to put a positive spin on the outcome.
He concluded: “I look at it badly but on the other hand, I feel I want to take the positives out of tonight’s game and of our run. We have a fantastic attitude and spirit and we have quality. How far can we go this season? I feel if we keep this attitude, we can have hope. You can argue that we lost the easiest trophy to win but as well if you look at the teams who are still in it, it does not look as easy to win as usual.”
So Arsenal’s trophy hunt now looks restricted to the Champions League and the FA Cup, but Wenger made it clear that the most important target is to finish in the Champions League places at the end of the season.
He concluded: “I consider the championship the most important. More than anything else, it is important to finish in the top four.”
I think at the moment, most Arsenal fans will agree that that is the most they can hope for this time around…..

Naivity? Would not look at it this way, the youngsters have proven themselves and of course there are still things to learnm but hey, I’m more positive this morning than I was before, the team looks deep. Ther is an injection of high creativity necessary in January or 4th place might be difficult. Spend some money on Gotze, Reus or Hazard, it will pay itself back at the end of tehs eason when we are in CL again.

Agree with you zain, no dissapointment … just look how much manshitty have to pay just to win 1-0 at 87th minutes. And after this cup they will have so much expensive, unhappy players on the bench. It’s just the beggining of the end for manshitty.

At an hour mark, it would have been better that both Chamakh and Park would have been substituted with Gervinho and Arshavin n belive you me things would have worked excellently for us. But all in all these crop of lads did exhibit real talent. As for Chambo Walcott should learn something from him or risk an overrun (sic).

@Alex I agree, we dominated second half and that goal was just one of this things. They were lucky in my opinion. If you had to compare the amount of money of every City player was bought for, compared to the score line and what our players cost, it should have been 10 – 0. So in that sense we accomplished something.
But out boys played very well, we showed guts and things are only looking good for those youngsters. Hats off to Frimpong and Coquelin, they both played exceptionally well, and the Ox looked dangerous as usual. Miquel looked a little bit out of place but did the job ok.
I really think we need to sell Chamakh and Arshavin. Chamakh has done absolutely nothing for this club since his arrival, and Arshavin just can’t cut it, he seems lethargic and uninterested. Park I think just needs more exposure, but without RvP on the park, we do not look like scoring. We need to buy another striker of his calibre come January, so when he gets injured or needs a holiday, we have a decent replacement.

Chambarlain is the best young player in england. He uses defenders for fun and was unlucky not to score a goal.I bet he will be the best player for england in the future.Wenger u should have put van persie and some experience players in the game and that is why arsenal lost against man shitty.Frimpong and coquelin did really well and arsenal have lots of possestions.

There was no way Wenger could have played RVP or Theo in this game? They, along with a few others, were already on RED ALERT. Remember? Our lads deserve high commendation the way they gave their all. It is sad that we lost. But for our largely youthful side to have played the way they did, and only lost by a late goal to a team of billionaires who have such awesome depth in their ranks, speaks volumes of our (Wenger’s) philosophy of grooming world beaters. We can now only hope that these lads will be more loyal and committed to Arsenal than their predecessor who allowed the lure of more cash to becloud their better judgement leading to their departures to billionaire clubs where their performances today are not as commanding as they were with us. Just look back – none of those who left Arsenal ever rekindled the awesome performances that always excited and left agape the mouths of football followers all over the world. If anything, these players became a shadow of themselves.

what need to complain?our team play well and y’all cn see hu dserved it to win..we jst lack of creativity n a finisher. chamakh n bendtner shud b permanently gone this january, considering they used non so caleed schoolkid, stil thing our scond string is even better the whole match.
that is the problem, wengie says we hv a big squad.yea bt some wt no quality.squid done well bt sory we need to gt rid of em too.pls make this january move out for “almunia, squid, denilson, bendtner, chamakh” permanently!! if cn add arshavin, rosicky n diaby on that list bt it is unlikely.if arshavin dnt go,hpefuly this is hes last year with rosicky considered wt their ages too.why not 25m+rosicky for goetze??? diaby probably shud hv hes chance n prove it this yr,stil think he wud b good as a backup aslong as he dnt keep getting injured yet again! so clear up around that 6-7 players.dnt mind even f we brought 3-4 players that wud b useful to the squad, players that wud b likely; defence; vertonghen-squid out, midfield;goetze-rosicky and denilson out, podolski-chamakh and bedtner out. for the keeper;almunia out, fabianski wanna go out permanent r loan so mannone as the 2nd goalkeeper or add an xperience one with that sevilla keeper wud b great too with two r three yrs left, manone wud hv hes chance nxt yr by then on carling cup r even fa cup n the sevilla keeper as backup to szczesny. not specificaly on these player, wenger wud knws hu wud b great for us aslong that clearout is a must, some of the useles player mentioned.and again proud of the young one, they shud nt been on the losing team, good performance chambo, frimpong, coquelin, koscielny as usual. unfortunate to see much of myaichi on these competition.we shud cme strong in these competition next year. so now the youngster carling cup is end, probably they would like to hv a loan move, espcialy frimpong, coquelin n some to gt some game time.hpefuly they wud stays n b patient like chambo does, hes great!

i totally agree wid Alex & greatmiko. Why should some Arsenal fans allow their love for Wenger to cloud their “exact judgement” on his performance! Are some of us blind? Though our boys played miraculous but if Wenger had wanted us to kick City’s out of the competition then he should have played or started the match wid atleast some experience players bcos players like Dzeko,Nasri,Boyata,Adam Johnson,Zableta,Toure & De jong are no juniorside to reckon wid as compared to our squad we used.Wenger in his every speech feels complacent on his past achievements for the club & therefore has nothing to offer us but it seems some people do not want to admit that Wenger is of no good bcos of their love for him. Please to all of us here “DO NOT ALLOW YOUR JUDGEMENT ON A SINGLE PERSON’S PERFORMANCE TO CURB YOUR JUST JUDGEMENT ON HIS PERFORMANCE” I know it will be difficult for some of you to admit the truth that Wenger is delusioned & unambitious bcos u love the man so dearly but i think is time Wenger leaves for another man to takecharge. It is good to dare bcos “NO RISK NO REWARD”

when did it become a delight to loose by a goal to Mancity? it is bcos we now think they have the best squad in the EPL.Let me tell you something guys whatever squad we used or City used they have scored us & there is no excuse for that! @Arunavameister we lost not bcos we played badly but Wenger couldn’t do the right thing.Just look at his substitions. How could he pull out AOC while he allowed Chamakh to last the whole 90 mins on the pitch. If really Wenger had wanted us to win this match then he should have added atleast some experience players to our squad. Some people think bcos Manshitty banged United 6-1 so Arsenal have done well by conceeding just a single goal but to me i think all of you guys who are thinking like that are stupid bcos Mancity’s style of play is not even a bit up to ours but we lost bcos Wenger failed again on his judgement & tactics. You people can keep on sucking Wenger’s balls but bet m that wid him in position we are bound to retire early from futball this season.Bigs up to Koscielny AOC & Frimpong.

Guys please stop moaning about Wenger. Yes he took a bit of a gamble playing the team he did. It is not like we got annihilated, we were by far the better team second half, it could have gone either way. We got to see just how good our youngsters are against a very good team. We must admit City’s defense was rock solid.
We can now focus on the CL and other trophies. I really think we have a chance of winning the CL. The Carling Cup isn’t worth stressing about. What Wenger should do now is take pointers from last nights game and look at certain players who I think are ready for first team exposure. Players like Frimpong, Ox, Coquelin. Especially the Ox, that kid is dangerous. Frimpong is an absolute beast in the midfield, he really put Nasri out the game. I would play him before Ramsey to be quite honest.
We had quite a few chances to be honest, I really think our problem wasn’t lack of creativity, it was lack of good positioning from our strikers.

We played very well but disapointed we didnt win. This was our chance to win a trophy. If we got Cardif in the Semi’s we would have been in the final.
Relaistically we won’t win the
Premier League
Champtions League we proberbly won’t win.
Fa Cup is a big chance for us and if we win this it may just persuade van persie to sign a new contract.

Some of you fans/bloggers, always moan and are never satisfied. We win “oooh wenger is the man, its our year”. We lose “sack wenger, sell everyone”. Come on guys… Use your head. I wasn’t happy that we lost but the way our weak side performed against a richside, was brilliant. We should have won that game but oh well. Oxlade is a beeeeeast. I sooo wanna see him and walcott starting together. His long shot technique is beautiful and he’s not afriad to shot. Mancini had to play aguero cause he knew we had him on lock. Better yet, he cheered me up by making a fool out of nasri. I would’ve love for us to win the league cup but thinking about it, its good thing we lost because they our players can rest more and not burn out. Last year we had more injuries and games cause we was in all 4 competition which looked good for us but not the players. Come jan, FA and the premier league battle. How players won’t burn out, rotation will work out even bbetter and big players won’t get injured as bad as last year. Players at man city will get tired and injured soon cause they are been over used. Don’t take this loss as a bad thing but as a good thing. If we win our next game this weekend 4-0, then man city game won’t matter cause we’ve moved on and still focused on fighting for top 4. Wenger should play the same squad again in champs league and if we beat them, then that’ll give the reserves more confidence and hunger and to show wenger and the fans that they’re ready to step up anytime. Couqelin and frimpong are like makelele and mascherano, I like their style. But you lot need to relax and just this loss as a good thing seeing as a lot of u moan abouut burn out

Like every Arsenal fan, I was desperately disappointed by last nights result. The team played really well and we looked more likely to score than MC. We missed some excellent chances in the first half and should have been a goal up by half time. Some players, who had a wonderful chance to prove themselves, didn’t appear to want to grab the opportunity. I have to say that Chamakh was very disappointing and did nothing to make me feel he could stand in for Robin VP. Come January we must find ourselves a striker because if Robin VP gets an injury, we are going to be in real problems and our hopes of winning anything this year will fade, badly.

Great game by the boys last nite. I think they showed character.
I would have liked to see Sanchez Watt upfront cos the Chamakh n Park looked tired. They couldnt win any headers in the box n took too long on the ball.
Fabianski looked lost maybe it’s about game time. Wenger needs to consider giving some of these lads 10-15 mins for XI

It was a well fought game by our young lads, who played exceptionally well last night. Chamberlain, Coquelin, Frimpong, Koscielny and Miquel were outsanding on the night, giving 210% but Chamack was dreadful, Park looked like the pace of the game was too much for him. He always took that extra touch and his first touch was always sloppy. But I want Wenger to be more harsher on the players like Chamahk and Arshavin and even Park who were overall inaffective last night, players like that will cost us a champions league spot. Park needs more time because he can finish bnut his link up play is non existant. We need a player like Podolski to cover Van Persie, someone quick with technique and a great shot. There quite similar in a way aswell. I heard the Cologne manager admit Arsenal are trackign Podolski as he doubts his future at the club. Then Mario Gotze, the German Wilshere ! Has admitted the two teams he would love to play for Arsenal and Barcelona but he knows there midfield is over crowded and he wouldn’t get enough playing time. Arsene is a great fan of his and did try to buy him last summer with that late 34 mill euro bid on skysports. Now Wenger has made him our top target as Wilshere probably won’t play until February and we need more creativity. I heard we’re lookin gofr another keeper Fabianski wnats first team football and Almunia is finally leaving. Fabianski reactions are too slow Scez will forever be ourt number 1. We also need a left footed winger to add some diversity to our midfield because when Arshavin goes we’ll need cover on both flanks. AS far as centre backs goes I don’t know who we should sign Thiago Silva is qaulity but I doubt we’d ever get him.

What gives with most of you lot here? Chamakh worked his socks off last night and all the others you constantly slag off played well. Some of you are even calling for Ox to replace Theo. Yes I want Ox to play but not at the expense of one of our best players. Play them together. We were unlucky to loose, accept it and move on and stop mugging off our players who do their best for our team. What happens if RVP has a bad game, will you call for him to be sold as well? Get real and just support our team. Be critical yes but be constructive not down right nasty. A lot of people think posters like you are typical Gooners so all of us are getting tagged as moaners and whingers. If you don’t like this post then rate it down but look at yourselves first !

Man City have to throw in almost all of their Big Guns(Aguero,Johnson,Balotelli,Nasri & Dzeko) just to beat us only 1-0,the goal coming at the 83rd Min.
Says a lot about our Performance yesterday, which was really satisfying & encouraging considering that WE didnt field our best squad(MCFC most certainly did) & we had more & closer opportunities on Goal than Man City.
We have all right to be disappointed & say ‘What if’ but we cant dwell on the past now,We move forward knowing that our performance should’ve comfortably got us through to the Semis & use that as a motivation tool for the upcoming matches.

@J.Lo – I agree with you but cannot understand why he started his career with us like a house on fire and then it went wrong when RVP took his place back. Perhaps that knocked his confidence and now he perhaps tries too hard to impress. I don’t know. Would Podolski come to us to sit on the bench until RVP gets rested or worse, injured or do we go 4-4-2 like last night. Actually our system is very fluid and Wenger likes to play 3 up front so it could work.
I don’t think that Chamakh has the control for our quick passing game so why do we not cross better for him to head in as before. I think City will win the league this year but I am heartened by the likes of Frim, Coq, Ox, Kos, Scez and others we have and I too hope it’s not another barren year. More important we finish in top 4 than have won Carling cup. Perhaps FA Cup. Let’s all keep the faith.

I did’nt watch last night game because i knew we would lose, considering the type of team AW put forward-and i hate to see Arsenal lose.
But,it’s great to hear that the youngsters put up a very good fight.I hope we beat Manshitty when we play them in the premiership soon.
However, this defeat again proved that Arsenal only win these days when RVP plays-and scores. All the more reasons why AW need to offload some deadwoods and get a quality backup for RVP in January.

Benayoun – waste of space, money…was captin lol
why not start with Arshav there or let diaby play.
Cham was rubbish but hey lets take the quite Korean off cos his not going to retaliate.
Lets take ox off when his the best attacking outlet on pitch.
WTF is wrong with the GERV. Man is on ecstasy–calm down.

The benchwarmer got to buck-up. Why they are not performed beat me. Why Wenger changed the whole team also beat me . Atleast half must be from the first team. Now we have lost a decent chance to win something. Surely A good striker is a must when transfer window open in January. NO EXCUSE AND BLA,BLA,BLA from Wenger. The back four are decent enough. Midfield still need a good quality maybe after season end.Quick adjustment NOW is STRIKER and in JANUARY AFC got and MUST buy player. That if AFC have ambition to finish top four.

I watched the game and i must admit that the youngsters played so well unbelieveable. I was worried that we would be beaten by more goals. The defending was excellent.
I agree with some of the above comments that we were very unlucky we would have been 2 goals up if the keeper hadn’t saved one of Park and One from Chamberlain.
The gunners did everything they played their hearts out we could have been 1-1 but Chamak blew the chance.
MAN C were lucky that’s all i can say and we were unlucky this was our game.
I had mentioned before this year we are not going to win anything but we will come up rocking next year. May be FA Cup don’t know lets keep our fingers cross and be behind our lads.

He has been really terrible even against Shrewsbury he flopped
I think we should sell him we would make money has we got him for free
Personally i dont want Podolski he enjoys playing with the mouth watering German Midfield and wings and his club goal scoring form aint that great Marco Reus would be a better call but i rather proven goal scorer for us
Park only has 2 years with us so its best we get a striker or
give Theo his chance at the CF slot for which he craves trust me with Ox chamberlain spectacular performance on tuesday i think theo should try at CF with OX cube on rw
I am dissapointed with Arshavin he doesnt show signs of improving
but when he wants to play well he can be a match winner which is why we may need him
Frimpong Coq and Miquel are top stars
This just shows that Wenger’s longterm plan of establishing
a WORLD CLASS ACADEMY IS FINALLY WORKING
Wilshere Frimpong Coq Szczesny Miquel Ozyakup Aneke and Afobe have shown us that we will have the best academy in England soon THE FUTURE IS VERY BRIGHT FOR THE GUNNERS
Even if we dont win anything this year
THERE WILL BE MANY MANY POSITIVES TO TAKE FROM
MARK MY WORDS IN THE NEXT 4-5 YEARS ARSENAL WILL BE THE POWERHORSE OF EUROPE MIYACI CHAMBERLAIN AND WILSHERE WILL CAUSE HAVOC ON EVERY TEAMS DEFENSE
LONG LIVE THE GUNNERS
Proud to be a gooner

@Bolly
yea bt he is nt up to hes standard by now,cud b also he lost hes cnfidence.podolski nt specificaly wud b on the bench ol the time.he cn even play in the left flank, espcialy when gervinho goes on for african cup.he cn also b decent backup for rvp,it is a lot of fixture n rvp dnt even mind competition n need some rest.f ramsey needed a rest, rvp cn even play on that playmaker attacking midfielder cus he plays deeply n goes attacking too.so dnt mind so much.bendtner n chamakh shud b gone permanently.park only hv 1 yr+ left.walcot cud b in two r more yrs to b in that position.bt remain hopeful our dutchman stays healthy and fit thru the rest of the season n finished as a top scorer this season.remain hopeful for even one trophy.Champs league please!!
podolski r soldado wud b a great addition,bt i stl thnk podolski wud b great.i jst dnt knw why,cus mybe he is similar to rvo n under wenger i think he would be jst right.i js hv the feelng he suits our play than sow.soldado wud b gud bt stil remain hopeful for podolski. bt firstly complete clearout some of the player that been waste of space in our squad and undeservedly received big wages a week; almunia, squid, denilson, bendtner, chamakh, arshavin.
