Wenger – Chelsea didn’t score the goals – we did!
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is stretching his imagination to the limit today, as he says that his team’s defeat to Chelsea was very similar to the Man Utd loss, and Chelsea only won because of Arsenal own goals!
“I was not disappointed by our performance against Chelsea,” Wenger said. “I do feel they stood up.
“We lost a game and we can’t deny that but it’s difficult when you get two knocks just
before half time. And we lost two big games this season by scoring own goals.
“You cannot even say Chelsea scored the goals. Even if we don’t score, Manuel Almunia
is behind. The goal at Manchester United [by Abou Diaby] is almost the same.
“As for Manchester City, I am disappointed but that is not the same. I am disappointed because I wanted the young boys to go through to do it but it’s no comparison.”
I’m no expert but if nothing else, i definitely saw Didier Drogba’s second goal fly into the net without going anywhere near an Arsenal player!
He is certainly right that Arsenal were unlucky to lose the game at Old Trafford, but Chelsea completely dominated the match last week, as Andrei Arshavin and Bacary Sagna have already stated this week!
Senderos asks Wenger for January transfer
Wenger – The Carling Cup is not a trophy worth celebrating
Forget Chamakh – Doesn’t Carlton Cole seem a better option?
Arshavin – Good football isn’t good enough against Chelsea
Denilson – It WASN’T Men against Boys!

“but Chelsea completely dominated the match last week”
no they didn’t! did you watch the match?? the problem is that arsenal didn’t threaten chelsea’s goal and nobody had the guts to shoot!
I am sorry to disagree with your post. I watched the first half again and agree with Arsene on one point, that the own goal did cost us big time. Because the deficit doubled from that. However, we had no quality in the final third and that is the big difference. Otherwise, most of the game , over 40 percent was played in the chelsea third of the pitch and that is a fact. so there are some positives to take from arsenals performance.
There always are. Some of you seem to conveniently forget that we are without our 2 main strikers for that match. If chelsea came to play us without dog-bah and anal-car , they would struggle.
Yes the loss is painful. But that’s coz our pride is hurt. And yes the other 2 losses are also painful. Let’s get over this and move forward. We can either treat what happened as my wife has cheated on me and I want to strangle her, or my name is Joe calzaghe and I have been knocked down by my opponent in the first round, but there are 11 rounds left and I am going to stand up and beat the yell out of my opponent for the next 11.
Your choice…
I like the second option. Can’t Change the results of the last 3 domestic matches but I can change my attitude for the next match. Come on arsenal, come on arsenal
Support your team 100%. They will bounce back and your positivity on the stands really helps
Re over 40% possession in chelsea third, i meant in the first half. Not sure about the second half. But why not take a look at the overall match stats:
Arsenal chelsea
Shots Total 12 10
Shots on goal 2 4
Fouls 17 14
Corners 4 3
Offsides 3 6
Possession Time 56% 44%
Yellow Cards 2
Red Cards 0 0
Saves 2 2
Arsenal had 56% possession, so at least
Yes chelsea had the quality that matters, yes Arsenal were crap in the final third, but that is because of our lack of on form strikers. The Arsenal team is not crap, it is just going through a tough time due to lack of confidence and seriously bad injury problems.
I do hope wenger improves the depth of the squad as otherwise the chance of silverware diminishes quite a bit. But the club is in financial problems, with the highbury square project not going well at the moment so I am not sure how much money arsenal can afford to spend without destabilising the club’s finances.
Anyhow, enough talk, I hope Arsenal prove me right on the pitch today at 3pm.
we were taught a very good lesson by Chelsea. der’s no denying dat. Chelsea were clearly a class apart!but i know we’ll bounce back!
Andy P – Spot on mate. Agree completely.
This always seems to happen – a big club faces us when we’re naturally going to be at our most vulnerable and wins, and then everyone decides to make the comparison, saying they are far better than us.
Last season when Utd beat us in the CL, we were missing gallas, clichy, van persie, rosicky, arshavin & denilson for the 1st leg, with only van persie returning for the 2nd. If you imagine Utd to have equivalent injuries, I think you’d agree that theyd’ have struggled a gainst us.
People always make out it’s the team that’s not good enough, when its basically down to the fact we get too many injuries.
Fair enough, part of the blame for this should go towards wenger as he takes a chance signing players like rosicky, who was known to be injury prone long before joining us – but also we receive very little protection from the refs (we get yellows for 1 foul vs chelsea, mikel gets to foul away the whole game – not to mention fletcher!); and the media, who have always encouraged “roughing us up”, leading to injuries like the ones diaby and in particular eduardo suffered on the pitch – although a number of the lesser injuries have been caused by these tactics as well. I think adebayor got one against stoke last season from a nasty challenge.
Just to clarify – I do agree that chelsea are slightly better than us, but that’s based on the season as a whole rather than that one match. They have a more solid backline and their midfield is slightly tougher. We have more creativity, but they arent short in that department either.
Man Utd aren’t really on our level this year. Theyr definitely stronger defensively but going forward are at times just awful. Rooney is a good forward, but berba, owen and all of their wingers besides giggs are often inneffectual. Technically should be further down the table but have had the benefit of too many decisions (seems to save them every year in the 1st half of the season) – despite their bitching about refs!
I think he was trying to suggest that they didnt work for the goals, we gave them away.
