Wenger – Chelsea were lucky and the ref was rubbish!
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger doesn’t believe that the 3-0 loss to Chelsea was a fair reflection of the result, and after his depressed ramblings after the match he has now issued a statement explaining his thoughts on the game. But he started by giving the reasons Arsenal lost.
The first reason he gave was that Chelsea were lucky in scoring the first two goals. He said: “I believe that Chelsea had absolutely everything going for them on Sunday and we can only respond in our next game. With their first shot on goal, they scored. With their second cross, they scored. And after it was difficult.”
Also the referee was not on Arsenal’s side. He disallowed a perfectly good goal from Arshavin, and then failed to give a certain penalty to Carlos Vela. Wenger continued. “The turning point was when the referee disallowed Arshavin’s ‘goal’ early in the second half. I feel it was a very unfair decision. That was a very important goal in this kind of game, and I feel it was a mistake by the referee.
“Also when you look back at the game, I think Carlos Vela could have had a penalty. I think it was at least a foul on the edge of the box. If the referee gives a foul when Drogba scored from his free-kick, he cannot say it was not a foul on Vela. But I do not want to talk too much about the referee.”
But he did finally admit that it may also have been the teams fault to some degree: “I think we make mistakes; we need to look at ourselves and ask why we conceded the goals.”
We certainly do! Because from where i was sitting it looked like Chelsea were far from lucky. In fact they just simply looked superior in all areas of the pitch. Perhaps Mr Wenger should stop trying to make excuses and accept that Arsenal were beaten by the better team.
And as for Arsenal still having a chance of winning the League, Wenger is definitely living in cuckoo land. Maybe he should have invested some of those millions he made in the summer after all…….

i will say it again…for the fifth time this season…walcot/ vela/ eduwardo/ are not premier league quality and rosicky is past his best and will not be the same as before his injury. you will not win a trophy with these guys in your team.eboue was the man to face chelsea on the right side the midfield…go shopping wenger…you need a hesky tipe of striker and a diarra midfielder to strengthened the team
Yes Wenger go shopping like Mark Hughes.
As we all know he is now leading the premiership by five points.
Have to laugh at how well the initial piece is written!! It lays out all of Wenger’s claims and reasons why we were ‘unlucky’ to lose.
Then at the end it simply states that Chelsea were ’superior’ in all departments and that is why they won so convincingly!!
I could not agree more with the writer, Wenger would do better to simply admit that Chelsea were stronger, by far.
Arsenal were undone in the closing minutes of the first half when they simply failed to protect the right flank!! Nothing more to say! The intensity needed from midfield to support the defence was not there. Chelsea found space and time on the right flank with which to attack the goalon two occasions, and they made it count.
Not really sure where they go from here!
Chelsea came out looking strong – but it was based on our defensive blunders. Until the goal, they didnt look threatening. I respect chelsea a lot more than our northern rivals, but the only reason many arsenal fans are saying they are so good is that we all saw it coming. They played much better than utd did, but similar to the
game at old trafford, chelsea didnt have to do much to beat us.
The ref decisions are a side-show, but one that should be addressed. Time-after-time the refs are against us in big games. It’s beyond ridiculous. And the longer ARSENAL fans ignore it, the longer we will continue to have zero “luck” in these big games. I know we have frailties, and the 1st two goals in particular exposed them – all credit to chelsea for that – but it really doesnt help when you get no help from the ref
Every week, I write the same thing about Arsenal, and will continue until things really change. It is laughable that Wenger thinks his side were better and lost because of the referee and bad luck.
Wenger knows deep inside that he has upset a lot of Arsenal supporters, while the “In Arsene we trust” brigade are beginning to wane. Not that Wenger cares about what others think, because he has said himself, that he does not care about the supporters. He only cares about his paymasters. And so long as Wenger makes them money, they don’t care how he performs on the pitch.
For how long will Wenger say we will win the premiership, only to be out of it by Nightmare November. For 5 years we have been waiting for the youngsters to grow, and Wenger continues to go from one mistake to the next. If I start listing them, it will fill a book, and yet the stupid press thinks he is as intelligent as a professor.
All I need do here is to remind Wenger and the board that the one major purpose of a football team is to be successful on the pitch, and not how you use Wenger to brainwash ediots that we are something which we are not, while creaming off the money being made by the club, as a result of not buying anyone decent.
I do not know for how long Arsenal fans will continue to live in cloud cukoo land with their master (Wenger). May be when Spurs finishes a season above us, will the chickens come home to roost but by then it may be too late as Arsenal may begin an unstoppable decline. Every summer we lose 2 experienced players and not replace them. In time this will leave the foundation of the team weak, as the youngsters who replace the more experienced ones are not ready, and when they are, we suddenly realise that they are not the real deal or they go elsewhere: What happened to the new brave world of Bentley, Reyes, Cole, Senderos, Toure, Pennant, Flamini and Aliadiere. Only Fabregas and Van Persie remains of that generation.
Yes! Monsieur has tried it before and failed, yet we keep getting fed the same youth model garbage. The best kids in the world can never compete with the best men in the world. So, In January we need proper players: Rob Green, Dzeko, De Rossi and Cheilleni or their equivalents. I know this will never happen, so long as Wenger is manager. Monsieur has gone from being the greatest manager in Arsenal history to being the worst.
i think you should watch the game again. we were the better team, chelsea were the smarter team.
in footballing terms we were better. its our smarts and mentality that let us down.
we seem to lack the mental superiority that chelsea and united possess. that cool headed arrogance that we are the best. we seem to get rattled more easily.
our runs off the ball just arent intelligent enough. we dont stretch defenses enough. everyone berates the crossing. its not the technique…its the runs into the box from our midfielders and strikers that is poor.
the urgency and directness that we were playing with at the beginning of the season seems to have warn off, and we seem to be settling back into last seasons rhythm…
take heart my fellow gooners, our time will come!
however dont get so down
I AGREE THAT CHELSEA WERE BETTER HENCE THEY WON BUT LABELLING WEBGER THE WORST COACH IN ARSENAL HISTORY IS LAUGHABLE AT BEST. HOPE WEN ARSENAL WINS ONE OF THE CUPS U KEEP TALKIN THIS MESS.
EDIT – WENGER
If wenger want trophies and avoid disappointment of the season, he shoul buy two senior players and add them to his squad otherwise even the few he has may leave the club after the season with no trophy.”Arshavin had commented before that the team is good but add mature or expensive players”
I totally agree with the writer of this article… Chelsea were by far the superior team and we were soundly beaten. To say we played the better football is nonsense, you can’t claim that when you have lost by 3 goals, you just can’t. Good to see Sagna and Rosicky coming out and praising Chelsea and admitting our poor display. I think we are missing a key ingredient that Wenger always goes on about and that is humility. Its about saying we will need to actually raise our game for Chelsea because they are so good…no we cannot just go out and try to play. United do it against us, they raise their game and get results… we aint as good as Chelsea. Fact. No shame in that either. Be humble, raise your game and be happy with a point. That is where we are…
wenger; like tony pulis sed, u can fool some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time but U CANT FOOL ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME. ok so u like to be known as an intelligent man and u are i dont doubt that. u knew rvp was injury prone, u knew eddie couldnt play upfront on his own that was y u went for rvp, u knew walcott wasnt isnt and i doubt ever will be ready, u knew bentdnar wasnt the finished product and u knew vela is full of potential but would need a bit more experience to play week in week out like rvp does So why dint u buy chamack? i know he would have limited the chances of certain players but at what point do we say enough is enough lets try and win something instead of using our season to groom youngsters and loose experienced players at the end. when we lost flamini u dint buy because we had song but it took him like half a season to be the player he is now. when u sold viera we had fabregas and it took him quite a while to be this good. when we lost adebayor u sed we had vela. only god knows how long it will take him to realise his potential.
I think Wenger has an adopted son ” Denilson”
Gosh the man loves him and the honest truth is the Denilson will never fit into the Arsenal era of football. The lad is not meant to play soccer. He is the most threatening player to Arsenals football. I dont understand how Wenger could think he cud replace Hleb/Flamini with Denilson?? You need to wake Wenger. Drop this so called Brazilian from your first team and maybe we can have some sort of joy in the midfield.
Just take a moment to watch Denilson in an Arsenal match and count how many times he gives the ball away. The only thing he does is run alot !!
I am a totally disappointed Gunner!! Catch a wake Wenger of please step down!!!

Still hearing bs like ‘they took their chances and we didn’t'?? I’m sorry, what exactly were ‘our chances’ basically nil.
What,s wrong with Eidur Gudjohnsson the Barcelona striker as he could come in on loan for a year or six months and get the goals for Arsenal while van Persie is out ,so obvious a move ,it,s time Arsene ?
Arsenal,s problem is midfield defensive players with Alex Song doing too much defending and attacking all by himself.A
nother quality player in the same mould would bolster the midfield very nicely allowing Cesc ,Samir and Andriy to push further upfield and get the goals needed to win the League this season?
I hate Denilson. Worst player ever to grace the world of football.
Should he continue to play for Arsenal, they will never win a cup!!
He is not even good enough to make the SA squad…lol
