Wenger confirms interest in Brazilian midfielder

Posted on March 03, 2010 by admin

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tried very hard to buy the Fiorentina midfielder Felipe Melo during the summer, but in the end Juventus won the race for the Brazilian hardman. The Italian giants have had a disastrous year in Serie A and Melo has not been very popular with the fans, which could mean that Melo could move on again this coming summer.

Wenger admitted that he is still very interested in bringing him to the Emirates: “We were interested in Melo during the summer.” he said.

“We watched him in Brazil’s international at the Emirates, against Italy in February 2009, when he had an outstanding game. Then he went to Juventus and that team has struggled and certainly he has not had the season that everyone predicted he would.

“We still think he is a very talented player and with Gilberto Silva, Brazil have a very useful pair in midfield. We are still looking at Melo.”

Most Arsenal fans were keen for Wenger to bring in a tough-tackling midfielder last year to partner Cesc Fabregas. Could Wenger have finally found his man?

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! Best news all season!

  2. DannyKing says:

I pray this comes to pass in reality. will would be carrying the EPL back to back

  3. Newmy says:

This would be a great signing as a longterm repacement for when Cesc leaves in one or two more seasons time! Song/Melo/Ramsey the future with Diaby/Denilson/Lansbury prooding cover! I am so hoping Aaron recovers to where he was before the injury, this kid is going to be better than Cesc in my eye if the injury has not changed him! Cesc disn’t have te physical presenc eAaron does at 19yrs of age and he is only going to get better and wiser with the ball! What a shame and what a talent!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Tsegaye Hailu from Ethiopia says:

    do it Wenger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. NZ _ gunner says:

Ramsey will surely recover but saying he will be better than Cesc is a bit too much i think.. He will be good and strong but Cesc has unbelivable vision and accuracy that only a handful of players in the world has it. World Class!!!!

  6. Isiaq kure says:

We need strong and reliable striker like rooney and add to our center half, if wenger can do this i belive we will pass through our enemy, up gunners.

  7. Nitti says:

One player that i thought could replace Fabregas is Ramsey, but this injury is a bit worrying, as we can see that Eduardo hasn’t recovered to full pre-injury form. That being said, Wilshere has the passing accuracy Fabregas has, if only they play him more centrally. I’m not as excited as everyone about Melo, I am glad Juventus got him, i think if he had come, we wouldn’t have seen Song and Diaby develope. I saw him today, and he just made clumsy tackles that could possibly get sent off a lot. He didn’t do anything special int he Brazil v Ireland game. He’ll be better than Denilson, but that’s it. I doubt Wenger would go for him.

  8. Chris says:

I think we have enough midfielders, there is no point buying more and unresting the ones we have at the moment. Cesc wont go this season. We need a PowerHouse striker… someone who can make use of Cesc’s vision.

  9. bole says:

felipe melo is good player.i also would like to se him in red but he singed for juve this season and WENGER would need to pay at least 10 mil for him!we all know this will never happen.

  10. armagharsenal says:

i wudnt worry if Melo didnt come but we do need 4/5 players.through the spine gk,cb,cm,cf.
Lloris Savic Fellaini(injury concern Veloso if not) Chamakh and get RVP back dont no bout any1 else but i love him i think he will win us the league if he plays the last 6 games.I REALLY DO!! Ramsey is brilliant but Cesc is the best in the world with Xavi n Iniesta so u cant say Ramsey will be better.
I think Fellaini would be a class signing good ball winner on the ground and the air and is a great passer. Also we need to keep Gallas or we should sign Cahill or Upson if this 4/7 rule is to come in.

  11. Pete says:

Wenger stop unsettling players(stop the hypocrisy), thank you. And for heaven’s sake stop taunting your own support with interest in players you never sign.

  12. Jason says:

I don’t know how well can he fit in.
But if AW can bring in what armagharsenal said, Fellaini!!
Then I think it would be nice…
But this not probably gonna happen I think.

AW should consider taking in a new goalie.
    A world class goalie..
For the rest of position, don’t really need more addition when the squad is all back from injured.
