Wenger didn’t have many other options other than Arshavin (look at the bench!)
Okay well we certainly all know that Arsene Wenger made a great error in replacing The Ox with Andrei Arshavin yesterday, but the fact is that he wanted Arsenal to win the game, and at 1-1 with 15 minutes to go he had to try and refresh his attacking options.
Okay lets look at the players he had on the bench; Almunia (why was he there when Wenger had announced that Fabianski was fit again); Squillaci (no point even putting him on the bench!); Yennaris (already replaced Djourou in defence); Miquel (another young defender); Benayoun (A possible choice but not really known as a game-changer); JY Park (an unknown quantity so it would have been a gamble); And Arshavin (A captain of Russia and a known genius in his day).
Perhaps we could argue all day that Wenger shouldn’t have taken off Oxlade-Chamberlain off, but the manager is surely in the best position to know how the 18 year-old could handle a full 90 minutes against one of the best teams in the country. The Ox played well, but Wenger was trying to win the game. We can’t knock him for that!
But once the decision had been made to make the change, how many of us WOULDN’T have chosen Arshavin out of that substitutes bench?
Look at the players (game-changers) that could have been on the bench, like Henry, Arteta or Wilshere, all out because of injury, then you can see that Wenger had very little choice, and if the fans realised that then perhaps they wouldn’t be criticising the manager quite so much?

Within a couple of minutes of replacing Ox with Arshavin, Fergie brought on Park and moved Valencia to RB. He sensed an opportunity to push forward now that the threat of Ox was removed and it paid off with all 3 points. A manager who knows how to make effective substitutions.

Out of the bench, Arshavin should be bottom of the list. He’s lazy, slow and just plain right doesn’t want to play football for us anymore. Benayoun was the obvious choice to me and alot of people i know. He works hard for the ball and he actually puts the effort in, he would of tackled valencia. The second choice would of been Walcott off and Arshavin on. The Ox was tired, RVP said no to the decision and 60000 fans boo the decision. And they had every right too.

I really think if ox stayed on that 2nd goal would not have happend and that maybe we could have got the winner and its wengers fault for having no match winners on the bench maybe not for the injured players but lack of spendin to make sure were prepared when we do have players injured arshavin is just not good enough to be on are bench never mind the team wenger needs to swallow his pride and admit he made a mistake buying him and sell him 10 mil back to Russia

The argument isn’t that there were no other options. The argument is why did he take off our best player who was causing their defence all kinds of problems?! That is not justification… He is the manager of a team who should and have the money to have a full bench! We have injuries… Who dosent… but this is the time where we can buy players to strengthen the squad, a right back a left back and striker would have been a wise purchase. What I don’t understand is that I can see it every arsenal fan can see it and Wenger can’t? Ignorance, arrogance I don’t know what it is but he will need to start listening to us!

This is not the first time Wenger has been outhought on substitutions. VP our captain knew it was a wrong move. The first time Arshavin was called upon in a defensive role it failed because just like Rosicky he has no clue on reacting to danger situations and no longer has the pace to rectify the mistake. Taking our threat off allowed Manu to come forward. The Ox is going to be a big game player and been waiting for his chance. He was tired but so was Rooney…he did not come off. At times Wenger is too technical with fitness levels, sometime you just have to let things happen naturally.

The problem with arsenal is not b/c cesc & nasri left,neither will it be caused by RVP leaving,but simply b/c we have blatantly REFUSED 2 buy,which leads me 2 ask how is this EPL actually won,is it the club with the biggest money that carries the day?!Anyway,if we can spend a little money & buy replacements for those dt have left or leaving,falcao for RVP,dempsey for nasri & probably vertonghen for djourou & squillaci,If truely the winning of the EPL or any other trophy is by MERIT,then even now,we still have a chance 2 end this wonderful yr with a silverware.

Oh well, here we are again…
The lack of quality in the Arsenal team yesterday was embarrasing, we have been reduced from a title-chasing team, to a team praying for a top 4 finish, but coming to the realisation that Europa league is probably where we will end up.
I think Van-Persie loves Arsenal, but in that split second yesterday when the 4th official held up the Ox’s number to be substituted, i think that was the final straw in his decision to sign a new contract or go.
So, next season, we know we will get the normal rubbish from Wenger and Arsenal about signing new players (has everyone noticed this normally happens when the season ticket renewals are sent out??)… and we will then bring in more youngsters, or ‘past-their-sell-by-dae’ players.
This transfer window will pass by with only the signing of Henry on loans, a calculated and manipulative decision to appease the fans, and make us forget about the fact we only have 1 decent striker…
I dont agree in boo’ing the team, we need to show Arsenal our disgust at the way the team is being destroyed for financial gain, the only way to do this is to hit the board where it hurts….
Do not buy drinks or food inside the ground, do not buy merchandise from the club shops…. lets show them that we have has enough at the under-investment in the club we love.

Walcott should of been replaced as Chamberlain was growing into the game, absolutely ridiculous decision which cost us the game.
He also did the same against Fulham so we had no pace to get them on the counter attack when we was under pressure in the 2nd half.
Have really had enough of Wenger now and the board too,I have always backed Wenger all the way but now i think he is on limited time and need to get new coaching staff other than YES men!

Arsen Wenger effectively lost us that game by taking off the Ox for Ashavin. That was a stupid and dumb decision and an a right kick in the bolox for the Ox. AW made us back into a 10 man team again against MUD Utd and thats why we lost. We started off with 10 men until he subbed Dreary who was the cause of the first goal.

I think it was a mistake to bring off the Ox, but Wenger is limited to what he can bring on due to lack of investment in World Class players, like we used to have and attract. I am not defending Wenger but think there are things going on behind the scenes that are influencing his decisions and he is too loyal to speak out. We do not hear a lot from Kronke about ambition to win trophies for the club. Has he become major share holder so in a couple of years he can sell to Usmanov at a great profit, Smell the coffee it is not about success on the pitch, more about success on the spreadsheet. Bring back the desire and passion we had at Highbury.

The question should be why are the fans in the stadium booing when arshavin was introduced? It doesn’t help the team at all! If anything, it just makes AA less interested, rather than motivating him to find the winner for us.

How could he not have many options on the bench when he keep telling us he’s got a big squad. It is humiliating being a fan and that has to be sorted soon else Arsenal will be loosing millions of fans esp say in Asia where they just started to amaze followers.
I have said it several times here, we need a top creative midfielder and a top striker. The creative midfielder with more priority. Our style of play relies heavily on midfield control and going forward. Without Fab in the games we struggled when he was playing for us. We need someone who can control the game and open up opposition. Our problem is we are poor from set pieces, crosses and corners our strength was always playing into the opposition net. Jack Wilshire alone will not solve our problem we still need like for like replacement for Fab. We have loads of players who cannot contribute but they are not even in the market. According to Wenger Chamack, Ashavin etc are not for sale. Been a big fan of Wenger but times are changing and to compete you must spend, as it looks not we are not getting into that top 4 come end of season. If we don’t make it 1 of 2 things will happen. To keep profit up as they have always done, we sell our best players or the club will have to take a financial hit and buy quality to be able to compete again. Easy to fall off but not so easy to come back up. See liverpool

Just to add I have also been stressing the need to use Yennaris as the right back for now. Djourou is like a time bomb waiting to go off whenever he plays(RB or CB) but for some reason we keep using him. Wenger need to give others a chance and drop non performers. Interesting Theo and OX were in the same game and Theo was like missing in the entire game while the OX was like a loose bull dog hustling down the neck of Man utd. So why is Theo getting the spot ahead of OX. Form should decide the line up not admiration or whatever. In my opinion instead of Walcott starting the next game I will use Park if he can play there or Ryo with the OX on the opposite flank. They both need a fair shot b4 we can make our mind up as to how good or bad they are. Esp Ryo should start ahead of Walcott for now. Let these guys know they need to fight for a place ah

Felt like AW had already decided Arshavin was going on (possibly prior to the match commencing). Almost dressing room politics. Has anyone else noticed that for whatever reason Arshavin seems to be higher up on the player rank pecking order? I suspect its why Ox hasn’t started a match till now. If Arshavin ‘had’ to be played …. Why not place him in his natural position – behind RVP? That’s where he plays for Russia (and might I say – plays well there). So if someone had to be subbed out – why not Rosicky, move Ramsey back, and put Arshavin up front? Why the f#*k would you take the most dynamic player off the pitch at that time??? I have watched Ox play earlier this season (Carling Cup) and thought back then – freak this kid is good! (Along with every other person in the stadium at the time). To suggest a young 18 year old was tired is absolute BS!!!
AW took a (wrong) gamble and it didn’t pay off. Its a managers job to make good decisions. That’s what they are paid for. Players are paid to execute the managers decisions. Unfortunately – of late – AW is making some very poor decisions. Either he adjusts his tactics (this includes the way he approaches the transfer window, paying players their worth, being open to different formations, buying the right players, and putting players in their right positions!) or, maybe its time for AW to call it a day, and allow someone who has better judgement to take the helm.
I point the finger of blame on our manager on yesterdays loss. Can’t see who else is to blame.

It was better to choose benayoun or park. benayoun plays way better defensive than arshavin. I think the changes should have been Ramsey for benayoun, and thats all maybe the ox for park(if the ox showed signs of fatigue).
