Wenger expects Bendtner, Fabregas and Van Persie to miss Liverpool game

Posted on July 28, 2010 by admin

Arsenal fans are certainly used to having injury problems, so before a game it is normal to think “who is available” before discussing line-ups, but to have Arsene Wenger to expect three top players not to be available for the first game of the season must be a first!

The good news is that, although Johan Djourou limped out of last nights game in Austria, Wenger doesn’t think it is serious and the SWISS defender should be okay for the Emirates Cup matches. Thomas Rosicky also missed the game but again Wenger thinks it is just a minor problem.

“Djourou has a small hamstring problem but it is not bad,” he said. “He should be available for the weekend.

“Rosicky had a small, small alert. He was supposed to play in the first half but he could have played.

“I didn’t want to take the gamble, it is only a little problem on his groin and I decided to replace him.”

Nicklas Bendtner is a big big worry. He has been suffering with his groin ever since his motoring accident before Christmas, and he played through the pain during the World Cup. There is every possibility that he may need some serious investigation to find out where the problem originates.

“Bendtner will not be available for the start of the season,” said Wenger. “We don’t know how bad it is.”

Fabregas and Van Persie both played in the World Cup Final, and have been given extended breaks to recover, but as they will only join up with the squad a week before the season starts, Wenger doesn’t think they will be physically or mentally prepared to face Liverpool.

“Fabregas and Van Persie are due to come back on August 5 and from then on we will see how much build-up work is needed physically and as well how they have recovered mentally from the World Cup.

“They might be short for the first game of the season but I don’t know, that will depend on the fitness work they have done during the holiday.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how Fabregas is feeling after this summer of uncertainty, as well as coming back with a World Cup winners medal he has to come to terms with staying at Arsenal.

Just for good measure, both Denilson and Abou Diaby are currently unavailable, and won’t play in the Emirates Cup but Wenger thinks they will be back in time to face Legia Warsaw in Arsenal’s last friendly before the season begins.

Wenger continued: “Denilson should be fit – maybe not for the Emirates Cup but for the Warsaw game, and Diaby as well.”

More bad news is that both Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski are perfectly fit and will be fighting over who will be in goal against Liverpool….

  1. Nitti says:

So Wenger, what’s your logic? Eduardo has been sold, Bendtner does not appear to be fit since last season, and you still won’t figure out how to get an extra striker? Lost Campbell, Gallas, Silvestre and Senderos, got only Vermaelen, Koscielny, Djourou and Nordtveit and still confident this time of pre-season? RvP and Fabregas have been given an unnecessary long term absence, No way Arsene’s policy is not flawed.

  2. Nitti says:

…and don’t get me started with the most important issue of number one goal keeper, not sorted out yet?????

  3. GUNNER says:

OMG!!!!! THAT IS SOOO ANOYIN!!! BUT I BET THEY WILL BE READY FOR THE LIVERPOOL MATCH.WE R GONA THRASH LIVERPOOL!!

  4. jack says:

Although I don’t think we will miss Bendtner that much in the first game, I do worry that he will be gone for extended period. As for Cesc and RVP missing the first game, Liverpool will be missing Torres and possibly Kuyt, so I don’t think Liverpool will be that dangerous. I expect a 2-0 win with Vermalen and Chamack scoring

  5. ytwokay says:

Here we go again…fabrigas, van persie, bendtner, diaby , denilson, djourou all injured …galas, sylvestre, campbell, eduardo, all gone…we fot chamak and new boy…it means we will start the season Arsenal 0- 3 Liverpool. After ten games we will in 6th spot…watchit!!!!!!!!!!!,

  6. messi says:

you know what reading genuine fans comments like Nitti up above, i completely agree with you and feel your anger to arsene seriously. how can we sell the most experienced players in our squad like gallas, senderos, silvestre, campbell, eduardo and we have bendtner, van persie, cesc, denilson, diaby all out injured or not returned from world cup, then we only bring in koscienly and chamakh not bring in a keeper who’ve needed the most for the last 2 years ever since lehmann left. this is a fu*king joke seriously and arsene has the audacity to say we are very ambitious and bloody close WTF!

he deserves no more respect seriously

  7. Champion says:

Comments above are a load of rubbish! Not too late to change support to Man City.

  8. sam D says:

    @champion.. if u r a true gooner..u will nvr leave it.. no
matter what happens to the club, we gotta support the club.’

btw if the trio dont play in liverpool match.. it wil b a difficult job for rest of the crew

  9. obscenelyseriousgunner says:

Ok Arsene, Bendtner injured, Dudu sold, RVP needs more
nap time, who the heck is gonna lead the pack??
Also, the defender we are in need of should be atleast Gallas quality. I am not sure your gonna find one with ur paycheck. I am already getting a little scared. Please don’t put us all down again. I beg u Arsene…

  10. messi says:

thank you sam for filling the significant outcome of my point, i love arsenal and im a die hard fan but you guys need to see it the way im seeing it. in the space of 3 years we’ve lost a whole 11 who have the highest of experience and success, a whole 11 that can virtually form an 11.

lehmann, toure, campbell, gallas, silvestre, gilberto-silva, diarra, flamini, eduardo, hleb, adebayor and now possibly (CESC) that is WAY TOO MUCH! experience going out of the club its actually ABSURD that arsene can let that happen… world cup winners, champions league winner, premier league, fa cup and carling cup winners… you just have to admire fergie and chelsea they’ve got all their experienced players still in the most competitive and fastest league which requires the most speed, and we probably have the most fastest players by the way, no wonder why chelsea and united just let us play our game and then counter attack us and batter us all the time. that will never happen to united ever ever, we are a disgrace ! arsene has lost it, im sorry to say im just expressing my opinions genuine honest opinion.

how can someone like arsene be so hungry and ambitious to win trophies if they’re gonna loose all of their spine of experience, its like building a wall but then taking cement from it bit by bit, what do you think is gonna happen….. COLLAPSE isn’t it… which then leads to a rebuilding process that takes time again. Its like were the new AJAX OF LONDON!

The fans need to know what is really happening because i really feel for arsenal season ticket holders, because if i was one i wouldnt know what to do seriously…

  11. gunner4lyf says:

nO rvp, cesc and bendtner.. NO PROBLEM.. WE STILL HAVE aRSHAVIN TO SCORE 4 GOAL.. :D

  12. samuel says:

Yes..Remember every one Arsenal 4 -4 draw last season and how much Arshavin likes to score against liverpool. Liverpool old defence will go wanting against Arsenal’s Pace attack. We still have nasri, ramsey, walcott,Arshavin, Chamakh. I have lots of hope on Vela, he will be a Great player soon. Watchout for him.

  13. real fabregas please stand up says:

“Nickless” is not at all the problem v’ll surely miss RVP and cese but i think we are good enuff for liverpool and JET looks like a good striker so am hoping he plays and scores….@gunner4lyf lol mate hope he blast 4 past them again i loved the celebration!!

  14. Sometimes wenger baffles me.we have inadequate defenders, our goalkeepers are wanting and he still has confidence in them and so on and so on.i have always said that goalkeepers win you trophies be it CL,PL,FA or even Carling cup and if wenger does not buy a good goalkeeper then be ready for another disappointing season. We can’t rely on the likes of Almunia,Fabianski but i actually have some confidence in Vito Manone coz he had a positive run Last season when he was on goal. So, i would rather manone be on goal instead of Fabianski and Almunia. But we need a new keeper as soon as possible period.

  15. Cameron says:

Not a positive way to kick off the new season. With injuries already. We will be relying heavily on Chamahk alone at the begining of the season. A CB has to be signed Djouro needs time to recover, get back to full fitness + match fitness. He hasn’t played for a long time and probably needs a season to catch up. If we have to rush him back over and over it won’t end well

Pre season started so positive now it is just abysmal.

  16. mike says:

calm the f**k down. theres still time left in the transfer window and arsene’s obviously gonna get a couple more players. stop stressing. as for the liverpool match nasri should be able to take over cesc’s role this season and chamakh will be good if he receives good crosses. so start walcott on the right.

  17. noel gallagher says:

Bendtner is not a problem for us, and there’s no problem at all, liverFOOL is just a stupid fat f**k club, so lets have no worry, we can beat them surely.
