Wenger – Gallas and Arshavin will be okay for Chelsea, but Gibbs is in a bad way
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger saw William Gallas and Andrei Arshavin injure each other when jumping for a cross from Cesc Fabregas last night, and he feared the worst, but after analyzing the injuries he has concluded they should both be okay to face Chelsea on Sunday.
But poor Kieran Gibbs is definitely out for at least three months after he suffered a broken metatarsal last night.
It was feared last week that had suffered the same problem, but now scans have confirmed it as a certainty.
“Gibbs has a big hole in his leg,” Wenger said after the game.
“It was a very bad challenge by the No 22 and it was not his first try, unfortunately. It doesn’t look good for Gibbs.”
“Gallas has an ankle problem and a swollen eye,” said Wenger. “I think he will recover for Sunday, we hope so. It wasn’t concussion but he couldn’t see anymore because his eye was swollen.
“Arshavin has some staples in his head. He will be available for Sunday.”
