Wenger – Good news on Wilshere, but bad news on Mertesacker
Arsene Wenger realises that every game from now on is crucial as the race for fourth place in the Premiership hots up, as well as the pressure of staying in the Champions League and the FA Cup.
The Gunners have now won two Premier League games to shore up their position in the League, and now they have the two other competitions in front of them. Wenger is confident that Arsenal can keep the run going, but just one defeat could bring back the talks of a “crisis”.
He said enigmatically: “You could say that the crisis at the moment in England is a bit like fire. It moves very quickly from one club to another,”
“It’s like a fire with strong wind so you have to be a bit cautious because it can quickly come back. The wind can blow it back!
“This is the important time for us. Before the week started, I said that this week would be vital for us. It’s down to us to do well and hopefully we will do it.”
The injury to Per Mertesacker last week was another defensive injury that Arsenal could have done without, but Wenger tempered the bad news with the revelation that Jack Wilshere could hopefully return to the squad within the next month.
He said: “Jack can be back within a month if all goes well,”
“The recovery of his latest problems looks very good. The latest scan was very positive.
“We go cautiously step by step because we tried to push him back quicker in the first instance and he had a setback. So this time we have to be cautious and not go too quick.
“He can be back before then end of the season, of course.”
But there is less confidence behind Mertesacker’s recovery. Wenger continued: “He had a reconstruction of his ankle in Germany before he joined us,”
“And the scan didn’t look too positive yesterday.
“He went back to Germany to consult the specialist to see where we go from there and he is supposed to contact me this afternoon to tell me exactly what the specialist told him.
“Certainly in the next month he will not be with us.”
Injuries to Arsenal defenders have already caused the Gunners great problems this season, and Wenger knows that any more must be avoided at all costs if they are going to avoid another “crisis”. He said: “We play in many competitions now and we can’t lose a player like Per Mertesacker in every competition. What is important for us now instead of losing a player is getting players back,”
“If we can get Diaby back, Wilshere back and not lose any players in the defensive sector then we have a chance but we’ll see. This week is vital for us.”
Just three more wins in a row and we will definitely have our season back on track, but just one thing; Does anyone know who this Diaby fellow is that Wenger mentioned at the end?

@Emery i couldn’t catch the first half, didn’t know Koscielny was injured didn’t hear it mentioned. But Rosicky wasn’t good at all, but Wenger could have moved Song to CB and Rosicky to midfield and introduced the Ox couldn’t he?

rosicky was crap, should have never started. his volley that went for a throw in sums up his last 5 years for arsenal. arteta was shit, losing balls and not breaking any of milans passes. wtf do we have him for?! song was crap. tv5 had his worst game ever. sagna played terrible, djourou was a joke, ramsey was garbage. walcott was nonexistent. szczesny couldn’t even pass past the halfway mark. i won’t be surprised or upset if rvp leaves but what I’m gutted with most was that are “experienced” players were the ones who let us down most. our best player was an 18 yr old!

I really hate seeing all those angry comments around here.
We havn’t played well today, that’s for sure, but I really don’t think we played that bad. Certainly Milan were the better party but I think 4 goals difference doesn’t reflect what we’ve seen on the pitch. I think 2-0 would be more like it.
I think the most obvious thing we can see in this match, and from the last one against Sunderland is how much we miss Wilshere. Whenever we stand against well organised defence we’re just helpless and don’t know what ro do.
I think the only player who i can honestly say the played badly today was rosicky. The others did there part, but we just can’t beat teams so organised defensivley without that creative midfielder….
Still, Milan caught a hell of a day, in the emirates it will be a totally different story. Maybe we can’t get back from 4-0 but we have to keep the faith and look forward.

what is with the In and Out posts. Im sorry but any team that sells around 15 players is just asking for trouble, it would be so difficult to blend a team together when you lost that many, also I see soo many players names being branded to be sold, maybe players like…
Mertesacker
Gibbs
Ramsey
Diaby
Rosicky
Arshavin
Walcott
… arent first team players but theres no doubt they are good enough for back up, some maybe are good for first team spots.
Its embarrissing that after one game you have people calling for all these players to be sold and AW to be sacked yet before the game your all optomistic we can get something, an opinion like that shouldnt be formed after 90 minutes. You should support a club through thick and thin and there are some seriously deluded ‘fans’ here that obviously dont.

quality, how long did it take you to come up with that?
is it not obvious to you that it would be moronic to sell soo many players, espicially some that are not half bad, we arent going to have a team of 11 world class superstars you know, even teams like City, Utd, Chelsea have average players in their SQUAD!

If we sold all those 15 or so players and bought 8 or so players who are all better than the ones we have sold in their positions, not only would we have a better starting 11, but we would have a better bench too. As well as balancing the books! And we have more than enough young players with good quality such as Yennaris, Miquel, Coquelin, Frimpong, Miyaichi and Joel Campbell who would make up the rest of the squad and would get a chance at a club like Arsenal.

but it wouldnt work, on paper yes but in reality no.
Look at how City done when they initially got their money, or better yet Chelsea, buying every player in sight and it still took them a couple of years before it started to work, and only immediate success would satisfy certain fans before they start to call for Wengers head again and start saying why did we buy this player or that player.
Dont get me wrong, I want us to spend money and buy top players and there are a number of players that I wouldnt care about if they left but some of them are ok, for example Walcott who lets not forget is still only 22 has proven on a number of occasions, latest being against Blackburn, that he can influence games, with age comes maturity and better knowledge of the game, it would be a terrible mistake to let him go, along with players like Rosicky who offers experience and knowledge and can be a good impact sub, I for one beleive hes been one of our better midfielders recently, and think he should be starting ahead of Ramsey a lot more.

1. Seriously what is up with these ‘fans’ on this forum, completely have an inability to Keep the Faith.
2. We were dominated in every area today in fairness to ourselves AC,they were absolute class to be honest, otherwise our pace, vision of the game was really slow, looked like we were just lost on the pitch.
3. Us Gunners constantly keep naming these Players (Podolski,Gotze,Hazard in particular) that we reckon will revamp the club but two realistic questions; Will Wenger/ the Board even attempt to bid for them? Are they ready & good enough for the PL?
4. Our Coaching staff has been static while United,Chelsea,Man City and other major clubs have constantly changed theirs, Wenger does all the coaching as far as im concerned, FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
We’ve got to stick together, We’ve got to show the Players we’re still with them regardless of what happens,True Gooners till we die. Honestly I don’t understand what is going through the Board’s heads, Wenger is at fault as well for our recent downfall, Fabregas & Adebayor’s goals at San Siro four years looked all but a distant memory but let’s Keep the Faith please!!!

It’s all well and good saying that Walcott can influence games and that Rosicky can be an impact sub, but the FACT is we have not won ANY trophy for almost SEVEN years. When we built the emirates, we were told that we would be competing with the best in europe like Barcelona and Real Madrid. What happened? We are one of the richest clubs in the WORLD. We keep on getting told that there is always money to spend. Why isn’t it being spent on better players than the ones that we have already got?

This result is for the best…we need to get into the top 4…we do not have a good enough team to win the CL….it is better to get knocked out now, than to get to the next round etc. only to then go out later on in April and as a result, miss out on the top 4 spot, because players are tired, or because we lose RVP or another key player like The OX, to injury. Plus, AW did not buy backup for RVP in January, (not to mention another defender) and their will only be more games that he would have to play and less time for him to get a rest again, lessen our BPL top 4 chance.
Then once we are back into the top 4….we will then have more chance to change thing and get top players or at least we will be able to attract them.

I havent said we shouldnt spend money, in fact ive agreed that we should, what I am saying is theres no point in selling these players as they can still play a part, yes buy players but also keep the ones we have, theres no need to sell 15 players and buy 10. Why not just sell 5-6 and buy in 3-4 ???

Are you saying that Arsene Wenger and the board have blatantly being lying to the supporters since we moved to the emirates? I think the time has finally come for a massive clear-out this summer. Almost all the players that i have mentioned have had more than enough chances to prove that they are good enough, but are clearly NOT good enough to be in the squad of a top 4 team like Arsenal as far as i am concerned, so they should be sold ASAP! and replaced with better players.

no, at what point did I say that, I said that I think we should spend some money but not neccessarily th ridiculous ammounts that players like Hazard are going to cost, as much as I would like them. Every team has fringe players/squad players and they are needed for rotation and subs etc. You cant win the league with just one amazing first 11, players like Kalou, Malouda, Carrick, Park Ji Sung, A. Johnson, Johnny Evans, Zabaleta, Anderson, Mikel, they are all average players who do jobs at their clubs and theres no way players like Rosicky, Ramsey, Mwertesacker, Gibbs etc. cant do the same for us. As for Walcott, I beleive hes much better than that and selling him would be idiotic, he is frustrating at times but theres no denying he is a really good player on his day. All im saying is spend money yes, but dont sell half your squad which you need

Truth is is that this current squad (it has potential yes) but currently is a top 6 premiership team, this is fact its where we’v been lingering all season.AC Milan are one of the top 6 sides in Europe and plain and simply it showed tonight they have an excellent mixture of class, youth and experience throughout there side. We have some experinced players but absolutly none of them have won anything (unless you wana count van persie’s FA cup). We got thumped tonight theres no 2 ways about but 1 thing we have to do is stay behind the team. We have the best young keeper in the world, the best young midfielder in the world and the best young winger in the world. We have 3top centre backs and 1 of the world’s best strikers. 2 top additions to this side and we are challenging for all honours.
