Wenger – I am convinced my new signings will prove me right
Arsene Wenger went on a last minute spending spree at the end of the transfer window, and although the new players are taking their time integrating into the Arsenal squad, Wenger is convinced that he now has the strength in depth to challenge for all trophies, and also to cover for the usual long injury list at the Emirates.
He said: “Sometimes we are reproached for not having enough captains in our squad, now we have plenty.
“Overall, we have more experience and this could be important if we are in a strong position should we have interesting challenges in March or April. That could have a big part to play.
“We got criticised a lot last season for not getting over the line, but I believe that we were so close, so, so close that it was unbelievable to accept. But we have added more experience.
“Also, last year, we lost important players in March and April because we went for all the trophies, so hopefully we have the squad to do it and this time it will happen.
“In every position, you always have number one, two and three, knowing there is a not a lot between them.
“But basically I’m very happy with the signings we made and my challenge now is to prove that I made the right decisions.
“I have great belief in the players I bought in and I am convinced they will prove me right.”
Arsenal certainly have more players, in fact we are still waiting to see Chu-Young Park and Ryo Miyaichi play in a League game, but I’m not sure about having three players of equal ability in every position. Where are the three right-backs, or three left-backs? And can Squallaci be called the equal of Thomas Vermaelen or Per Mertesacker?

Alright, I’m not a wenger hater but the note about 3 quality players at each position is complete bullocks. I have faith that arteta, mert, and park (when given a chance) will live up to expectations of the red and white. Why they weren’t given time to gel in the preseason instead of being bought last second is a wonder to me. This better not be wenger already making excuses for not buying in January. If he doesn’t, it will have harsh consequences.

Mertesacker is clearly the marquee signing of the panic buys but seems strange to me no other club was in the hunt. Pace is important at the highest level and we have a slower defence now. Maybe thats why. We still need 2 truely world class players as signings. I think it needs to come in attack and centreback. Doing exactly what Bruce Rioch did when signing Bergkamp kick started a Gunners revolution and the rest is history. If we don’t I can’t see us climbing back up to top 4 land. Hazard is looking less likely by each week that passes. As with everything, money is the key.

There’s nothing wrong in sharing the same opinions with the fans okay? But yeah, I understand the thrill one gets when one succeeds with an unpopular opinion and against all expectation. That is what has left is trophyless since 2005.

I`m quite sure some of his summer signings will be justified but maybe not the ones he expected. Santos, Mertesacker, Arteta, Gervinho and Beneyoun are not world beaters but no doubt will fit into the Wenger mould. On the other hand we have Ox-Chamberlain, Miyachi, Coquelin and Parks who, given the chance could fall into the Wilshere mould and rise above the conservatism of the present Arsenal management.

Enough is enough, the wise says, anytin you do and did not have any impact should be change, why late signings everytime, if this players have been signed and play preseason game together, i believe the team would have been better by now. Gunners 4 life

TWIG you are 100% right,actually Wenger usually just wants to prove his critics wrong but it is his critics who usually prove him wrong for 6 years now[since 2005].So for sure before GOD his 3 new signings;Arteta,Benayoun and Mertesacker alone won’t make Arsenal to win any trophy even The Carling Cup alone,NO! He should have bought more than 10 players of such calibre.Also,YOUNG TEAMS/SQUADS like Arsenal’s current one for God’s sake DO NOT,CANNOT,HAVE NEVER and WILL NEVER WIN trophies.Instead for any team to win trophies; for GOD’S SAKE ALL its players’ average age should be between 25-29 years old,but NOT 24 years old and below! So just read which players am going to write that Arsenal should buy in the 2012 January transfer window[not all of them but just a good number of them] in my next comment after this one.

Daniel has just said that Arsenal needs to sell all its current useless ‘potatoes’ and injury-prone players[the named ones] and also buy just a good number[not all of them] of the elegant versatile ones that he has mentioned! Arsene is a brilliant manager and long may he continue at the club. As a fan my bit of advise would be to get CAHILL from Bolton in January (He may well be cheaper now what with Boltons Current form)and then play Tomas V at full back. Let Robin V play in the hole, with OXO and Walcott up front. That should do the trick. Most of us dont have his pressure to contend with. I think he loves the club and wants to win, with a bit of tweaking and less injuries Arsenal will be up there . Keep the faith.

No offence Daniel but Wilshere, Vermaelen, Sagna, Ramsey and Frimpong are anything but useless potatoes. Wilshere could go on to be one of the best midfielders that the club has ever had, Vermaelen is one of the best defenders in the league and Sagna is one of the best Right Backs. Apart from that it’s not just a case of sell your unwanted players and buy world class ones because nobody wants your unwanted players and the world class ones cost a fortune. There’s the question of where to find the 100s of millions to fund this exercise.

Lol@ the people who think buying 5 world class players is how you win trophies. You need to build the team first before signing big names. Look at barca. They work and think like arsenal except they built their team so perfect that whenever they sign players, they adapt slowly witHout it affecting the team’s current form. Barca can sign someone like jenkinson from us and make him look like a star because the team is already solid so he can adapt at his own pace and develope really well. Remember cesc and other young talent fitted well with the squad because the invincibles were there to help them adapt and take their time to develop. Wilshere would have struggled a bit if he started playing in the squad this season rather than last because the team is not solid this year. Wenger need to get the defence sorted before vermaelan gets bk so he won’t have to be rushed bk in to the squad and get injured again. We only need 2 signings in jan to cover and for the knockout rounds and FA cup so some players can rest for the next game. I think the team we have now is good enough to reach top 4 but wengers needs a tactic that will benefit everyone. Maybe when we’re solid again, then we can go bk to 4 3 3 next season with the right players

@Charlie,no! money is not a problem for Arsenal,Arsenal has A LOT of money;in fact Arsenal is among the current top 10 richest football clubs in the world,only that it has a coach,board and management in general including even people like Ivan Gazidis apart from only its billionaires and shareholders Stan Kroenke and Alicia Usmanov which is/who are very mean/selfish,greedy, egocentric/self-centered,not serious,unaccountable, untransparent,incompetent,unfocused,lazy,uncommitted, useless,uncourteous,asleep on their job,unethical and economical/economisers/economists with money. But for sure before God if they just FIRE/SACK its current coach[Wenger] plus the WHOLE of its current board and management in general including even Ivan Gazidis apart from only Stan Kroenke and Alicia Usmanov and then replace its coach,board and management in general which is/who are the exact OPPOSITE of its current coach,board and management in general,am sure they will be spending lots of its money during all transfer windows and be buying enough/a good number of expensive elegant, solid, versatile and non- injury prone players who can help them be winning trophies so as to be winning trophies year in year out/season in season out!
