Wenger – I believe in the squad I have, so there will only be a few signings!
Arsene Wenger has been quoted quite a lot over the last few weeks saying that he will be buying players to strengthen the Arsenal squad this summer, and he wants them to be in place before the World Cup starts, but now it seems that he will be signing Marouane Chamakh for free immediately, and perhaps just another one or two players.
The fans that were hoping that Wenger would be investing heavily to take the team to another level look like they are going to be disappointed again this summer.
“We have a basic squad and I believe in the squad I have,” he said. “But if I can make an addition – two or three maximum – then we will do it.
With Silvestre, Gallas and Campbell all well over 30 and all out-of-contract next month, it was expected that Arsenal would need at least two top-class defenders, but again Wenger admits to only considering one replacement, and only if Gallas doesn’t sign a contract extension.
“What is for sure if Gallas doesn’t extend his contract we have to go out and strengthen this position,” said the Frenchman. “For the rest we will see.
“There is a cut off point for Gallas. It doesn’t depend only on me. Gallas can come and say ‘Boss we will stop the talks because I signed somewhere and that’s it’.
“I could set a deadline for us and that will certainly be before the end of May because we then have to look for someone else. We have more talks planned.
“I still have to assess the Gallas and Campbell situations. Silvestre is out of contract too and the whole package has to be right – one goes, one stays. We have to get the number right.
“If Gallas and Campbell stay it will depend slightly on how well Djourou comes back about what we will do. He looks good in training, quite positive.”
“I will try to do what I want to do as quickly as possible but I am not the only decider. It doesn’t only depend on me.
“Ideally, you would want to do the job before the World Cup. It is difficult to give yourself the right timing.
“Certainly, we will announce one player before the World Cup. After that we will see.”
That one player is obviously Chamakh, as this has been arranged for some time now, but it looks like there may just be one more signing at most if Gallas commits himself to another season at the Emirates.

We need a new goalie, a world class player to put an end to all the stupid goals that kept coming throughout the season. I feel horrified when I hear Wenger has trust in Fabianski. Fabianski should not only leave Arsenal, but should retire from football so he won’t annoy fans at any other club in the world.
Almunia is definitely better than him, but has never been a keeper of sufficient quality for a team like Arsenal. He should be a third choice at best.
I am also very dissatisfied with Bendtner, Song, Rosicky, Eduardo, Silvestre and Denilson. I disagree with bashing Diaby, he had some great games and will surely perform better next season.
Wenger has to convince the owners that money has to be spent. I understand they are businessmen, but there are several clubs rolling a heap of debt from season to season that still manage to purchase players. So no-one tell us Arsenal are unable to do so.
I have no realistic ideas on whom to sign, but as a goalie we need someone like Lloris, Adler or Akinfeyev. A goalkeeper cannot be so horribly expensive…
As far as other positions go, we need an excellent defender to accompany Vermaelen and at least one established midfielder. With Chamakh coming and Van Persie hopefully not picking up injuries, I think the storming section will be okay.
The two most important things nonetheless are Fabregas, Nasri, Sagna and Arshavin staying and a lot better luck with injuries next season.
“I am also very dissatisfied with Bendtner, Song, Rosicky”…jb26 I’m dissatisfied that u said that. Bartender who continuously serve up 90th min goals, Song who has been possibly the most consistent midfielder all season apart from Cesc Fabulous, and Rosicky? come one compared to eduardo coming back from a whole season out, i’m satisfied with his contributions throughout the season…never easy…he had some very good signs of what is to come nex season i think
WENGER BELEIVING IN HIS SQUAD AGAIN. HE’LL ONLY UNVEIL CHAMAKH B4 THE WORLD CUP. HE WAITS TILL THE LAST MINUTE TO PAY THE LOWEST POSSIBLE PRICE. ITS CLEAR ARSENAL NEED 4 QUALITY SIGNINGS & THIS GUY STILL CAN’T SEE IT BECAUSE ‘WITH THIS GROUP OF PLAYERS THERE’LL BE TITLES NEXT SEASON’!!!
…I believe in the squad.
We need a new goalie, another defender, a new forward which we more or less have and maybe another central midfielder.
Were people genuinely expecting Wenger to buy straight for first team players in the window? We just need that bit more class and depth in a few areas, goalie, defence and attacking mainly.
This is getting sickening..Its not even d transfer window and Arsene is already talking himself out of major signings..For crying out loud, djourou wil neva look like a new signing..he wasn’t gud enuf before he got injured and after a year out,wat difference will it make?We didn’t sign a striker in january, cause bendtner would return from his injury as superman(it cost us dear)..Spurs are bidding 4 Micah, shouldn’t Arsenal be doing dat 2..Shouldn’t we go all out for Joe hart?..r u telling me we dnt need another big strong midfielder?..isn’t dis 1 of Arsenal’s most profitable time?..regardless of gallas staying a not, isn’t a defender a PRIORITY?..wel,wat do i knw?
come on Wenger!! az fans we’v shown loyalty 4 the club despite the trophyless seasonz, bt am sorry 2 say that that loyalty n faith comes at a price… it iz time 2 return the favour, we want silverwearz n in order 2 achiev that we need signingz!! brin in versatility 2 the mid~feild 2 reinforce Cesc the fabulous ability… that means Hazard’z signature…. then, atleast two hardworkinimg defenders like subotic or mexes n a top class goalie like Llorys or Rene
This is bizarre.
The whole of Arsenal apart from AW is banging on for the need to sign a secure if not brilliant goalkeeper, a new first-choice centreback to partner TV5, and a defensive midfielder as cover for Song …
… and what do we get … Chamakh on a freebie.
Later we might get another one or two (tops).
WTF? Let’s say the definite other is a GK … though I wouldn’t bet on it. And the second – a CB – is down to whether Gallas goes or not. Then that’s it folks.
Chamakh and a new GK if Gallas stays (+2)
Chamakh and who knows what if it’s not a new GK. (+2)
… and so on.
It is entirely possible if we get a new GK our defence next year will be exactly as it is now.
Including Senderos, Silvestre, Campbell, Gallas, and Djourou.
Holy crap in a handbasket to hell. AW must have a death wish or something. Ah, right … they will all be a year more mature … that must be it.
As I say, bizarre.
does that mean that NO MORE Signing will be made after Chamakh and a possible CB if Gallas leaves?
We need 4 players! Hart, Sissokho, Hazard, Chamakh!!
Maybe 2 CB if Gallas leaves!!
What is playing in his mind?
Trust in squad again?
Then we better pray hard that Fabianski and Almunia can get injured so that Mannone and Wojicech can show some true keeper skills.
RVP has never stay fit for one full season before.
Beside Song, we have no more reliable cover on the back…
So?
And so the hedging begins.
I’m getting the feeling that it is going to just be Chamakh this summer and only a CB if Gallas leaves.
Djourou will be the “1 in and 1 out” for Silvestre.
Wenger will come out with more statements this summer about how if we had only had a proper replacement for when both RVP and Bendtner were out, this squad would have won the title. (Especially since he has already opened the door for Eduardo to leave)
I am also very dissatisfied with Bendtner, Song, Rosicky, Eduardo, Silvestre and Denilson. I disagree with bashing Diaby, he had some great games and will surely perform better next season.
Who wrote this crap? I’m dissatisfied with moaners who keep bashing Bendtner, the guy has done his job this season! And SONG? Are you sure you follow ARSENAL?
ANYWAY..Wenger starts his okiedokie, recipe for another trophiless season. When you start hearing he will get 2 or 3 maximum, know we will remain same also rans. Denilson is not ready for this team, Diaby is too inconsistent and does not command the midfield like he should, Nasri is also inconsistent, he has so much to offer but you would think he is not in some games. Ramsey will not be the same next season, Wilshere will not be given the chance in Arsenal next season, Sagna is not the same RB and has nothing to offer in attack other than pointless crosses, Clichy has been dealing with a back injury for 3 seasons, Almunia\Fabianski are not title winning goal keepers, Gallas is ok, but not the right piece in defence, possibly reason why Sagna is dipping. That being said, I am not slagging off the team, but there are obvious major adjustments to the squad. We don’t need to get rid of anybody, but we need 3 quality players in addition to what we currently have, with Gallas and Campbell remaining in the setup. An older quality goal keeper, who has a lot to offer like what Brad Freidel is for Aston Villa, this so Wojciech can soon be the number 1. We need a tall strong centerback to partner Vermaelen, Cahill, Subotic or Zapata ideally, that being said, i can’t see Gallas accepting bench duty, so it’s best they let him go, but Wenger is making a mistake by being desperate to keep Gallas, it means more of the same of the last 4 years at defense. Song has a partner in the mold of a confident Craig Eastmond or Nordveit back from loan. Upfront Eden Hazard MUST brought in. I can’t understand why a talented player like that will not be invested in. Starting to sound like same ol’ Arsene Wenger, stuck in his own stubborn ideas and the board, despite swearing there is money to spend, saving the penny at the cost of any real returns to the supporters. Our focus should be tempered next season, no more arrognace, Arsene needs to win a trophy, at this point the Carling cup is not a bad trophy to win, considering we have not won anything since 2005.
Gunner fans you must stop buying season ticket until AW takes his words back!!!(I believe in this team and only players”"” what a BS is that!1 we heard it over the past 5 years, and we saw what happened NOTHING!!! this man is crazy and should be traded, so we need a better coach than AW. He just messing w Arsenal fans, and the result is no right thing but disappointment one afteer another.
Buycot the French man and force to act like a coach and bring quality players, not outcasts like Silvestere, and Fumbulanisky !! this guy is a clown in goal, and AW REPEATEDLY said he believes in him ya right coz he is a looser like him!!!
JaGunner and Ezat: I didn’t want to hurt anyone by saying I am dissatisfied with those players I mentioned – it is just my opinion, and yes, I do follow Arsenal. You don’t have to call me a moaner just because You disagree.
Sorry, it was going out to Dale, not Ezat. My bad.
hey guys…. we can all say that buy this or that player by seeing in TV only…… but inside locker room there are lot of issues….okay
as some said buy Subotic as a matter of fact ManU already talk with his team they failed….we should think in other way tell me guys if u r boss of arsenal i mean major shareholder…you wanna to see ur having debts 300 or 400 million like ManU has…. we all know we moved to emirates stadium in 2006 it was project cost £390 million, it not easy to manage this kind of situation… but AW only man keep our self in top 4 and still making…that’s why u morons don’t understand why he is saying “now we have good financial situation “and he is making rights things before he is leaving so that his successor have cakewalk…hats off to AW…. U R MAN FOR US
Shreyas ya he is man for you but look at the past 5 years, proises promises, potential, potential. They say if you want to be invited to the party you have to dress up for it. He buys cheap young talents, but keep them on the bench until grass grows beneath them, or oldies and out casts like SilWaster, and then Fumble iansky!!!(he really misses those game costing fumbles). The whole summer transfer window he play with you guys, and spread rumors here and there but no buy, and this year my dear Gonners would be the same story!!!You have to make him respect us Gunners not just beg to buy, he has to feel the pressure.
