Wenger – I pushed Gallas too hard, and now he has gone backwards again
Arsene Wenger last night revealed that William Gallas will miss tonights game for Arsenal against Porto, and probably at least another month after that.
He was thought to be close to recovery from his calf injury, but when pushed in training this weekend, he is now back to square one.
Wenger said: “We were a little impatient with Gallas and we pushed him and he wanted to get on as well, which is why maybe it has happened.
“But there is no obvious sign as to why it keeps coming back.
“He has no pain at all, then goes for a little jog and then it goes again.
“Gallas has been out for a month and now he has had a recurrence of his calf injury.
“He felt very well on Sunday and went out – but he has gone backwards again.
“At the beginning it was a minor injury. We don’t know how long it will be, he needs a scan and we will assess it from there.”
Luckily Sol Campbell has recovered from his groin strain last week to replace Gallas for tonight, but Wenger has previously said that he doesn’t like Campbell to play more than once a week to keep him fresh. He may now have no choice unless he gives Silvestre a few games in the league.

update:: Wenger – I pushed Gallas too hard, and now he has gone backwards again http://bit.ly/aileDp
We dont want Silvester anymore in that club cus he is not good neither is he a developing young talend. i prefer any1 that play centre back in our reserve to SHITVESTER
From the start of the season a great deal of concern has been shown by fans relating to Gallas and Vermaelen. What happens if? Sol is a great footballer make no doubt about it but he doesn`t have young legs and should something happen to Vermy we are left with Silvestre and an ageing Campbell who will be required to back up for maybe several games. Still I suppose it could be worse, we could have easily had no back up at all.
Bad news, Gallas had been fighting through injury all year, not surprised it caught up with him. We are very lucky to have Sol now in these important matches. We can survive against lesser teams with Silvestre, as shown against Sunderland and Burnley.
The only other alternative is playing Sagna at RCB and Eboue at RB, with Vermaelen at LCB and Clichy at LB. Sagna played CB for this former club and has some experience there, along with being a right footed player wouldn’t have that ackward situation of having two left footed CB’s. But that is very unlikely.
Lads, lads, lads calm down. We’re not stuck in the CB positions, you lot have seem to forgotten that we also have Song for that position, yep he does seem better suited to the DM role but our defenders play so far up the pitch it’s pretty much the same thing. Let’s not forget Luke Ayling, he’s not our reserve captain for nothing. He’s a tenacious and dogged defender, with a determination and positioning sense akin to Vermaelen I wouldn’t dismiss him as an option.
If we were forced to have the unlikely partnership of Silvestre and Song, we could have Denilson and Eastmond as DM to play in front of them. Eastmond is someone I’m very impressed with he makes a great second DM as his pace and work rate more than make up for his lack of experience.
Silvestre isn’t a bad defender, he is just too prone to mistakes but in general he is pretty good in a one on one with a striker he more often than not comes pout on top.
I just want to add, that Eastmond has been on the first team quite a bit this season especially when Song is unavailable so it’s obvious Wenger also sees him as an option.
Not having Gallas for a while is a bonus for Arsenal as Song or Diaby can fill in there or cover for Sagna ,Clichy or Eboue .
SPOT ON Bongo. Song can fill in CB if Sol can’t go sometimes and Silvestre can’t either. Funy enough, I prefer Eastmond at DCM to Denilson. Eastmond tackles better than Denilson.
