Wenger – If Van Persie won’t sign we have to respect that
Arsene Wenger could not have hoped for a better performance from Robin Van Persie on the day that he issued a statement saying he is still committed to Arsenal, despite refusing to discuss a new contract extension.
Van Persie scored both goals as the Gunners beat Sunderland 2-1, and after the game Wenger praised the Dutchman and said that his decision not to discuss his contract had to be respected.
Wenger said: “The ideal situation is he extends his length of contract. But if he doesn’t we have to respect that.
“He knows we’re ready to talk about it. Most important is what you do today and how much you’re committed to the cause as long as you’re at the club.
“What is important is he plays like he plays. We’re here to see special footballers and he is a special footballer.
“For me commitment isn’t how long you’re at the club, it’s as long as you’re there you give 100 per cent until the last day of your contract.
“That is what I call commitment. The rest is different. The length of contract is completely different. You have players with ten-year contracts who aren’t committed.
“Many people questioned his leadership qualities. But he is completely committed for the cause on a daily basis and is even more important on the pitch. He does the job. He scored two goals. That shows how important he is.”
Robin was by far the best player on the pitch yesterday and he certainly looked like he had a point to prove. With 29 goals in his last 36 starts for the team, Van Persie is practically irreplaceable, but will Wenger have to try and do just that next summer?

i’ll bet our captain made it late because of 1 thing..rvp want to see this arsenal club position and performence until the end of the season..if we can’t compete and qualify at least on europa league, then rvp should rethink about his future..i’ll had a bad feeling on this..why this our captain always moved to others club??? (viera, henry, fab) no more loyalty?? they always ask for our (fan) loyalty during a game and during a bad club performence..but do they (players) had that in thier heart??

I just feel we don’t have enough cover for him. There is a lot of expectation and hope resting on his shoulders, which he handles with ease. But if Rooney gets injured they have 3 world class replacements. Maybe that’s why park hasn’t started yet. He might be RVP cover.

Give him space, but i believe has to be pro-active… Offer him a gud package and hear his concerns…. If he doesn’t sign by January consider possible replacement options. Though ideally we want him to stay….
On the other hand we acquired Miyachi, Oxland and Park…. but they are not getting game time…. if they ain’t gud enuogh why did we buy them…. Are they carling cup material or what exactly….? Give the guys a chance otherwise what’s the point. Oxland has already proven he has something to give so what’s the happening… even as late substitutions it’s ok.
Did we buy them for the future????

yes, we have to respect someone else’s opinion or choice but its high time Arsenal looked into their wage policy. Arsenal is one of the top 6 clubs in the world who pays its captain 70 thousand pounds with just a contract in view of additional 20k. The load of work is much and the concentration is high. Its high time we follow the abnormal pay curve which will when managed very well lead to more revenue and rights to the club. I believe this is in progress. Arsenal board should work with time and read what will happen in the future in order to combat all deficiency. Arsenal for life. Very soon, we will see the HEROs of ARSENAL

hey Chitrak… i hear wht u saying, but look at united our bitter rivals they have kids who are playing and they are doing well (eg Welbeck) …. Even consider in our own team, Jack Wishere he is still a teenager but the guy is first choice even in the England midfield…. I think giving the young guys even just 15 mins as late substitutions can help…. Am sure thoz young lads are so hungry to make an impact and that’s what we need, Hunger For Success…..

I think Van Persie appreciates Arsenal have precious little chance of making the top four but the FA and Carling Cups are within reach. He is probably waiting to see if the present squad reaches it`s potential and if Wenger brings in a couple of top notch players. Should this happen he`ll more than likely sign a new contract, we`ll know come January.

AW @ his best again always havin a diplomatic explanation to every happenin, my guess is he knows he can offer rvp mo dan d 90k and knows also he wont buy any quality players and those ar d only reasons rvp wil make any commitment so gunners just hold tight and pray for a gud season ahead.

chitrak thats a very objective response, kudos. we cant be decieving our selves, if the board dont want to pay him what most of us believe is his value, i’ll be the first to ask him to leave.

Wenger’s comment that a player should give 100% until the last day of his contract has a hollow ring. Today, before the ink has dried, plans are laid to re-negotiate a new contract on better terms. Otherwise, at mid-contract stage, panic begins to reign at Club level for fear of an eventual Bosman.
Professional football and players’ contracts are no longer on the same wavelength and the sooner sometning is done to introduce integrity, the better.
