Wenger – If Vela does well i won't move for Chamakh!

Posted on November 22, 2009 by admin

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has lost two of his first choice strikers to injury, which has revived speculation that he may consider a move for the Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh in the January transfer window.

But Wenger is keen to see how his young Mexican star Carlos Vela performs in the next few weeks before making a decision on the transfer situation.

“I’m inclined to say I won’t move for Chamakh because we have enough quality and I want to give a chance to Carlos Vela,” said Wenger. “It’s a good observation period to see how well we do without Van Persie.”

It could certainly be an interesting month with Eduardo and Vela making the new strike partnership at the Emirates, and if they perform well they could get Arsenal’s season back on track after yesterday’s shock defeat at Sunderland.

Now Arsenal are eight points behind Chelsea (albeit with a game in hand) they really cannot afford to drop any more points at all before Christmas. If they do, perhaps Chamakh will become an option again.

we should move 4 him this january especially morocco is not playing the african cup.what a week i had till yesterday 5pm. my country qualified to the world cup after a hell of a playoff game,so i was flying till that whistle.we missed diaby yesterday his kind of game i understand the boss inclusion of ramsey after the game he delivered against scotland.ps what do need to happen 4 us to get a pen?even the haters in MOTD thought that was an absolute pen whom by the displayed ur game second 4 a change, bcos when we smash teams they try to highlight it as minimum as possible.

  2. T says:

I think we should have atlest 4 really quality backups for each spot on the field incase one gets hurt. They should all be national team quality and they should all cost atlest 20M. That is the way forward. And that is why we should buy new strikers. Because if both vp and bendtner and walcott and vela is injured at the same time we could pull some world class off the bench just like City.

  3. jo says:

That sounds great T but the hardest thing is to get world class players to sit on the bench. i just hope we can be consistent while RVP is out

  4. ytwokay says:

vela and eduardo is not Premier League material…end of story. Wenger, plse don’t play Cesc and Ramsay at the same time…and please let Rosicky go in January, i think he did his best for Arsenal before his injuries…he is not the same player anymore

  5. lee says:

wow T . . 4 subs for each spot that cost 20mil . .lol thats some real bullshit there

  6. Davi says:

Vela is the man. Im glad wenger is finally going to give him a chance

  7. mayank says:

But we need to get Chamakh. Even with Van Persie in, we just have Bendtner who is a fox in the box. so we need chamakh and especially when he can come for free now.
And dont 4get that we need a world class defensive midfielder.
Get them AW, and the title is ours..

  8. adewunmi says:

we need to get chamakh in the january transfer window becos his country are not in the ACN and he will be of a great help to arsenal. please wenger get him cause we really need a potent striker to retain our title hope

  9. Kay says:

I dont really think we need chamak, but he can serves as addup since he really wish to come and i can see the greatness in him, but believe vela is fast developing as one of the best finisher in the world with his classy goals on one-on-one.he is a playa i really luv with ball movement. Keep on vela.

  10. Jack Staniforth says:

Eduardo and Vela and about time. When he`s fit again stick van Persie in between them and we`ll have the best striking trio in the Arsenal camp.Behind these we need the fit pair of Fabregas and Arshavin with possibly Diaby/Nasri/Rosicky or Walcott making up the three. the back four from Sagna, Eboue, Gallas, Vermaelen, Gibbs and Clichy (when fit) plus we have Bendtner to come back in the new year and not forgetting Ramsey,Song and young Jack so it`s not looking so bad. However names don`t win titles, coordination, concentration and confidence, the three `C`s`,are more important.

  11. Bongo says:

We don’t need anyone, you all need to take a step back and realise it was merely a selection error on Arsene’s part, (yes it happens),He put Nasri and rosicky, two rusty players who are not on form in two striker roles on the edges a three pronged attack. Big mistake!!!! Both Nasri and |Rosicky are both drawn to the centre and neither make for a good attacking winger because of this. They were rarely on the wing to accept a pass and when they were they didn’t once look to play the ball quickly to Eduardo, because of this he looked cold and alone.

Fair enough to sunderland for marking him well, but if they kept hitting the ball to him, someone of his skill is going get a break. When Arshavin, walcott and vela came on the entire game changed and we were unlucky not to get goal, this was not because we were sudenly behind it was because he finally had three dedicated strikers up front.

Arsene played a cautious game yesterday, I don’t know whetehr it was because of the amount of first teamers out and not match fit or what, but we got punished by a great Sunderland side with a fantastic striker in Darren Bent. I personally don’t feel so bad losing to them as they’re now a side to be reckoned with.

  12. skwam says:

If Wenger said he wants to give Carlos a chance before going for Chamack, thats Wenger ONLY telling Chamack of his intention that he is still interested in him.
    This what will happen………
He will give Vela a chance
Get him to sign a LONG TERM contract
And in January go for Chamack on a free
Argument…Chamack is a player more in the mould of Ade or Nick and is good in the air…Vela or Eduardo can never be that
    Simples

  13. jojo says:

without the ‘useless, mistake prone, slow’ diaby, we lost.

  14. WillyG says:

We need to beef up the midfield if we are to contend for the premiership and the champions league, because diaby is shit.

  15. Velaaaa says:

Wenger is gonna have a massive selection headache if Carlos performs!!

  16. Casicky says:

We lost its gutting yes,but yday I watched blackburn fans travel to Bolton(I knw its not that far for them) but the support was immense and I think as fans we av to look at ourselves and really ask ourselves do we as fans do enuf???we lost to Sunderland who have been doin well against thr top four but ultimately if you chasing the title that excuse just won’t cut it,hopefully we av learnt summ here n move on to do same way better things than we av done which is quite doubtful (seeing as we drew at WMHam n still didn’t learn anyfing)

  17. Arnsam says:

To me carlos vela is the best striker we have, overall the only disadvantage he has is heigt but his brilliance more than covers up for that. If vela plays wel…how on earth is he ever going to do it when all he plays are preseason and carling cup games, even if he plays his part by scoring almost every time he’s played in the right position, the closest he gets is playing as a substitute more over on the wings.
    However we still need chamakh
