Wenger – I’ll use The Ox but he needs to work on his commitment
The Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger told the fans that they could expect to see more of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the New Year, and he fulfilled that promise by giving him an hour against Leeds this week.
But although Wenger is very happy with Chamberlain’s progress, he thinks that he still needs to work on his commitment and defensive play before he can become a regular in the Arsenal first team.
“He is very close now and he will be used in the next six months for sure,” Wenger said. “He is working on his defensive side, his urgency and his committed level as well.
“When you are a young, talented player you have to experience that talent is good, but that commitment at the top level is highly needed too. He is an intelligent boy, he understands that, and I am very happy with him. I am confident that in the next few weeks he will play.”
Arsenal fans just think that they prefer to watch The Ox than a lazy Arshavin or a misfiring Walcott, but Wenger obviously sees something missing from his game so far.
Or maybe he just doesn’t want too much pressure on him at that age? What do you think?

At 18 he is young, he is also English. This is a burden, as English fans and media place massive amounts of pressure on there players.
He looks very promising, he has pace, he is inventive, and not afraid to shoot. I hope he gets more games in this half of the season. It would certainly help. I think playing behind Walcott and Arshavin is beneficial as its means he can become more confident quietly without the watchful eyes of the fans and media.
I believe this is what has made Walcott the player he is today. He was under a spotlight for the wrong reasons, and I believe this has affected his confidence and psychology. I think Wenger is being more careful with Oxe, which is reassuring.
I think by comparing Oxe and Walcott (when Walcott was 18) it’s fair to say Oxe shows more promise, and is less one dimensional.

Quite honestly, Chamberlain is better than most of the players in our squad. Wenger should play him more regularly, before Arshavin. I would even play him LW and Walcott RW.
AOC can cut in from the left and he has an eye for goal. Would be interesting to see the two on the pitch at the same time. I would most certainly play him against United, as AOC is the type of player who could do well against them. United defense do not like players running at them. AOC has strength, skill and determination. He is at least one player who is more direct in our squad and isn’t afraid to shoot. We need more like him.

i think this argument looses credibility everytime arsharvin gets on the pitch, my nan tracks back more than arsharvin still he showed more desire the other nite and im hoping he bags us the points against the swans like he did last time. arsharvin is still world class deep down under all that self pity and if he could just have a few good games maybe he can turn it around.
whats worrying me more at the momment though is hazard seems to be set to move if not this jan def in the summer, like most gooners i could just about get over him signing for someone abroad like real but if he comes to the prem and it aint us its gna break so many hearts and cause mass disscontent, especialy since it seems hazard is availible if the release clause is met.
we lost matta and that hurt, but if hazard also goes to chelea for 25-30 mill i cant see many fans forgiving wenger in a hurry. dont no why i brought this up i just got a hunch hes on the move and as much as i would love it to be us i just cant see it happening.

We should play him as much as possible, he is almost as fast as theo, but being stronger than theo, being able to cross the ball and being able to shoot better with both his feet than theo can with his best foot, he is already a better player than theo,

If this guy lacks commitment then what is it that Arshavin lacks?

you’ve already said what i had in mind so no needs
wenger needs to drop people who really lack commitment and stop joking with us, we are not stupid.
we have a tireless japanese he doesn’t want to play him all these because wenger seems to be powerless these days when it comes to senior players or is he scared to axe them.
if he wants to quote commitment then ryo miyaichi should be ahead of arshavin.

People tends to forget that we didnt lose mata to chelsea. Mata himself chose chelsea over arsenal. We made a bid for him but he chose chelsea. And I can respect that.

Let’s look at his overall game not just his offensive skills. If Wenger says he needs to focus on his commitment to defence than so be it, he isn’t ready.
I believe AOC is more talented than Theo, but we do have to look at Theo running back to help his back line players too. I’ve seen him use his speed to cover for Jenkinson and Santos when they commit too much on the attack. Theo is there with Song to recover. Let’s give Walcott credit for this. Maybe Alex needs to learn this part of the game before he is ready.
There is one thing for sure though, he is a better player than Walcott

Its something else or Wenger is just getting old to remember the days when he was still new. He unleashed a 17 year old on Premiership. That kid dislocated and subsequently ended Ian Wright’s career at Arsenal something that still rankles when you read the weekly articles in the SUN. Then as now, its about quality kids and really cant see the difference. So OX ought to get more minutes on the pitch. Can anyone say Walcott did better when he came on against Leeds?

The man who coaches AOC everyday is telling you the lad needs to work on certain aspects of his game and fans who only see AOC on the field are talking and making demands as if they know better. Disgusting.
If AFC board and manager were to follow fans’ demands, the club would have been forgotten by now because most of our demands are totally unrealistic, unreasonable and impractical in AFC.

He’s older than Prince Cesc was when he started playing regularly, and look how well he’s doing now.
Drop Chamakh and Arshavin, and promote the Park and The Ox. And give Ryo a half hour here and there when he’s fit. He looks pretty much as good as The Ox and even quicker.

there they are again – the “dont dare question wenger, we must have blind faith” fans. To be stronger this season Wenger should be playing the Ox more, no doubt. No one can seriously suggest Ahsarvin has anything over Ox. but it is yet another cost / benefit analysis. everyone know that these kids are more prone to strain / stress type injuries. Wenger needs him for the long haul because he aint got the board’s support to spend if Ox gets injured

IF WALCOT RAN AT PLAYERS,IN ALL MATCHES HE WOULD BE BRILLIANT BUT HE DOESNT ESPECIALLY AGAINST THE BIG TEAMS DONT KNO WEATHER THATS CONFIDENCE??RUNNING AT PPL IS THE ONLY ABILITY HE HAS COZ HE IS POOR AT CROSSING AND NOT GOT A BRILLIANT SHOT EITHER…
AV SEEN ENOF OV THE OX TO SAY THAT HE IS ALLREADY IN A DIFFERENT CLASS FROM THEO…

My saying AOC is better than Walcott is in reference to his technical abilities over Theo. We can clearly see that the Ox is a more fluid, exigent and technically gifted player. Walcott didn’t have this type of level at the age of 18. The Ox does. Therefore, I believe it’s fair to say that if AOC keeps developing with time on the pitch, by Theo’s current age of 22, the Ox will be a much more refined player.
