Wenger indicates that he won’t pay Gary Cahill’s transfer fee
There have consistently been Arsenal transfer rumours around linking the Bolton defender Gary Cahill with the Gunners, and the price has been variously quoted as anything from between £12m and £25m, which could simply depend on how many clubs are interested in buying him.
Tottenham and Man City have both been reported to be interested in the English centre-back, and today’s Mirror says that Bolton have decided on their asking price for Cahill, with £17m considered to be a fair price.
But they also say that Arsene Wenger is quoted as saying that he won’t pay over the odds for Premier League players when you can buy from foreign leagues at a much cheaper price.
He said: “I will always try to get value for money because I think that is the job of a good manager.”
“In England, it is bit more difficult because the inflation is higher than everywhere else. When you only have a few players and many clubs the price is always high.”
It has recently been rumoured that the Blackburn defender Christopher Samba will be available for around £12m and is probably a more likely target for the Gunners, but perhaps Wenger may go abroad and try and find someone even cheaper.
Is it time for Wenger to stop penny-pinching and buy the players he needs, whatever their price?

Surely arsene wenger will make petty excuses to buy cheap french loosers like squillachi,silvester. Oh i feel arsene is just so annoying he keeps doing such things and than giving petty excuses after the match . I respsect arsene for what he has done for our club but he wants to keep his penny pinching policy i think its time for him to leave. We cannot wait for players fom arsenals youth academy to grow up after few years to play for arsenals first team. Its high time he starts buying quality players. A slow defender will destroy Arsenal’s style of football because we play a high line to be more attackive and cahill will push that line back to the stone age.

Seriously, I don’t think our problem is signing of players. Yes we need some players but that is not the real problem.
The major problem has something to do with the mentality of the players. One thing is, class can not drop only form can drop. Someone like Arshavin is still very much but probably do not know why they are playing for us.
Same for Bendtner, Diaby and Denilson. We need more Jack Wilshere, RVP, Chesney and Ramsey in our team.
I am of the believe that the first thing Wenger has to do is to either sell Fabregas or make him know the main reason why he is playing for us. His body language is not encouraging and as the captain, that will definitely affect others.

Signing is Important,we have many players but are not good.example Diaby,Denilson,Squilach,Almunia,Rosisky and Bendtner.All these deadwoods leaves no empty room for signing of good players.We need to eliminate them and replace the best ones.We have no good substitution.No one can replace Robin Van Perse if get injured,all strikers are not good.We have no strong midfilder,Song is weak especial in tough games.

There are a lot of players out there that are better defenders than Cahill, If I was Wenger I won’t pay more than £12 million for him, for the simple reason he’s an English defender. As what TrueGooner said the guy is slow, if we get him, this means we’ll have to change our defensive tactics to base them around him! A player with no more than 4 caps for the Englands first team! £25 million… You would get Cahill for £25 million? Cahill is in the same league as Koscielny maybe abit better, and when I say abit I mean abit, Actually Koscielny is quicker than Cahill! Adam kemp is a tool. Many of his post expose hum for the gimp that he is, but unfortunately he is spot on about Wenger. Nothing will change, we will be lucky to finish fourth next year unless there is a drastic turn aroun by Wenger and he spends some Real money on proven quality players as well as changing his philosophy. The set piece situation is a total farce, we need some strong hard defenders who know what to do on set plays and don’t look lost Luke our current squad
We are so close, just two or three correct signings, change formation to 4-4-2, have some support up front for RVP, a holding midfielder, solid back 4 and a good golie.

I think this season out of the most of the 6 year trophy drout, that Wenger will listen to the fans and spend in the transfer window, especially knowing he had 40 million in his budget last year & this year with some high price players leaving he should have no excuse to spend, secondly bigger stakes are being taken in Arsenal which increases the cash flow….Personally, they need a leader! There is no player i would give to armband to at Arsenal, maybe R.V.P, but you can’t lead from the front. If Nasri does leave, that is such a missed player, regardless if Arshavin leaves he doesn’t suit Arsenal and British football. Therefore they need one more attacking player, BUT not one who will become good, and then leave but is at his peak. Defence wise, i think they should strip the defence and start all over again, getting maturity, which will help at the end of the season & some winning players e.g Charlie Sheen;) Rant over.

Jagielka would be a much better buy I think. Quality centre back and also do a job at right back…just what we need! No more eboue or squillaci they are complete liabilities! He is also a leader and has good premiership experience. He signed a new contract at everton last season I think so he’s gonna cost at least 15 mill I would guess but surely it’s worth the money when this is exactly what we need! Wenger shouldn’t always look for the cheaper option abroad we need premiership experience both jagielka and Scott Parker would give us that. Then I thought we needed an attacking left sided player which I hear we have signed Alvarez and I expect big things from miyachi as well! I personally would sell bendtner and get a new striker as cover for van persie, although I’m pretty sure wenger will stick with him and chamkh as cover.
I’ve given up on hoping we would actually spend big on a benzema or hazard it clearly will never happen. I just hope wenger makes the right signings even if it means paying a few mill over the odds but I do agree that both Cahill and samba are NOT the answer!

I always used to hear about this cahill fella on the internet. People just thought he was the messiah of our defence. The day I decided to watch him play (the game against chelsea), he was responsible for all the goals chelsea scored. He has just 4 caps. He is worth 15-25 million! Absolutely ridiculous. The guy is mediocre like a lot of the players in the squad. I see nothing wrong with what wenger has said here. He wan’t to get value for his money. He doesn’t want to play ridiculous amounts because the guy is english. The guy has done nothing in his career. You pay 25m for someone who is leaving inter, bayern or any of the top clubs. I dont totally agree, though we all need to get behind the football club for next season. If Arsenal had the voice of the away fans at home it would certainly give the team a big lift. I think in 5 years Arsenal will be in a position to do what they want! We have a less than average deal with emirates which will run out by then plus the fact that the council will grant us permission to put in maybe 10 – 20 thousand more seats plus boosted by the new ownership. Hopefully Ajaz and PSG and maybe Porto will do business with us in the near future! Lets face it if Chelsea, Liverpool and Man city werent taken over we would all be laughin!!!!!!!!!!

Sombody should tell Wenger that the premiership has taken a new dimension. He’s got to follow the changing trend,or be left behind. My humble opinion is that he should stop placing topmost priority on bringing up young players,who eventually dump the club for a more serious one. But spend money on players that can bring smiles on d faces of the ‘not happy at all fans’.
Wenger’s vanity and ego to win trophies with average rated players is causing the club immense damage. why he has such an aversion to sign established players? Good age at 24, Tall and strong(look at the goals hes scored from corners), will get better playing with with better plays ie at city. spurs and gunners.
