Wenger – It was a solid performance
Arsenal can away from Newcastle with a point and a red card on the opening day of the season in a game full of controversy. On his League debut for the Gunners, Gervinho will not gain many admirers for the way he goes to ground, but he’ll certainly have top marks for slapping Joey Barton!
But overall Arsene Wenger was pleased with a point from a difficult away game. He said afterwards: “I thought we had a solid performance and were in control. Newcastle had last season’s 4-4 more in their mind than we did. They organised not to concede goals, defended well and it was very difficult for us because we played a team who was highly focused to defend.
“We missed something, the regret is that we missed something in the final third and in the speed of our passing. But, overall, we had a good performance. I can’t remember giving Newcastle a chance at goal and, away from home, you have to give credit to our team for that.”
As for Gervinho’s sending off, he felt that his team should have exercised a little more self-control, although he thought the referee didn’t treat both sets of players evenly: “We try to play football and, if you watched today, you will see that.” he said. “Overall, I feel we have been very harshly punished today. We try to play and sometimes we overreact. We have to take control of that. If we have an area to improve on, then that is it. We will learn from that today.”
I guess a point is better than nothing, but it is not the best preparation for a difficult fortnight ahead. Look on the bright side; Things can only get better!

let’s be honest Arsenal is a money making business now not a winning football club!
I hate it how Wenger say i’m not scared to buy if we find exceptional talent! well buy you crazy old man! Look at Man U as much as i dislike them i credit fergy on no nonsense buying! if he likes a player he will get him.
I think our midfield now is weaker then our defense
would love to see Arsene bid for Chelsea’s brazilian bench warmer Alex! His perfect big strong, plug can score off free kicks! RVP…when was the last time he scored from a free kick! must be over a season ago!
The biggest worry is midfield with Arsene saying no to mata! who do you guys think we can get to replace nasri and fabs?

I think the ref was right sending Gervinho off. A slap is a slap no matter what, i just wish Gervinho would have gone down the moment barton grabbed him. That’s what barton does against us, rocks us so we lose focus. Get him off the pitch and we would have won that game. The ref making the decision to only give barton a yellow was a shocker! It was at that moment that if i was arsenal player, I would have to footed Barton in the chest and tea-bagged that prick whilest messing up his diabolically terrible hair cut. But for the admin posting up a request to clean up the commenting, this comment would have been filthy.

first game of the season against a team that had us on toast last year id say an away point and a clean sheet was a good start. yes we need to be more clinical and maybe a mata is needed but credit were credit is due we looked rock solid even with 10 men and on paper that was one of the toughest games already out the way. koshelney is the new vermaelen, gibbs looked like a real player, shezeney commanded the box and rosicky showed sighns of the great player we no he can be. i was just generally impressed with how together and up for it we were. ps i love song but you should of stood on his head!

AW keeps on repeating that he’d only buy a player if he adds something to the squad. Well, MR W, if you can’t think of a player who can perform better than the mid-field we had out there today, then its time for you to go, because we need someone more competent in the transfer market!! But in all honesty, I reckon AW knows that we need a a better CB, a better DM and more reinforcement in the midfield after Cesc and Nasri leave. But his stubbornness and ego won’t let him spend the cash the club is sitting on. He was quoted saying today:
“I tell the fans they should not worry. I have a history over the last 15 years and if you look at the quality of the players I have brought to this club you will see that I did not do badly.”
Just goes to show that the man is still basking in the glory of his successes with Henry, Pires, Vieira etc. Do you ever see other great managers, SAF, Mourinho saying similar things? NO! They understand that the football world evolves and they work to keep up with the changes. AW on the contrary likes to stay in the glory of the past.

The standard of Arsenal’s performance yesterday (in my opinion) was not impressive. The team seemed to be be mentally dehydrated. RVP was not so impressive, Gervinho was quite wasteful with the ball, the midfield was not at it’s best and the substitutions made were remarkably not objective. We really need to solidify our midfield and stabilize our defence (they still overlap). Wenger should buy established players and stop using our team like a football laboratory.

Stop knocking Wenger. Force him out and who would we get, some idiot who would go back to the boring George Graham days. It is Far Far more difficult to win things these days with mad Russians and Arabs throwing silly money at teams, who then buy up every player even if they do not play. If Nasri goes to City how many games will he play for a salary beyond the reach of all well run clubs. We got a good point at Newcastle, Still some great players, with a couple more in the right position i believe we an be serious challengers agan this year. Get Behind the team and show you are true supporters.

one positive thing today is that defensively we were solid and much composed but the negative aspect is that offensively we looked quite unconvincing and inconsistent…

The real analysis of the game should be –
Wenger, “Apparently we had a football game today. However more importantly I was looking at our budget excel spreadsheet and we are on target to meet our August targets. Sod these fans they pay good money for the board to pocket it all hehehehe………….oh wait are you recording……………..Ivan get the Batmobile……….I have to go”

solid performance? maybe in defence. attacking-wise we were poor. no creativity, very few sharp through balls. Gibbs should not play, he has no tactical awareness and is constantly out of position. teams always attack arsenals left flank cus sagna stops them 9 times out of 10. Gibbs has to improve or put traore there. gervinho looked ok but should have done better at times. the passing was sloppy at times. szcezsny looked solid. more creativity needed and speed on the counter attack.

so wenger was happy with a point = THE FANS ARE NOT AND WITH GOOD REASON!! we should be beating teams like that for fun lets see if wengers happy with another point next week shall we, i really do think wenger would be happy with 4th place again this season!!! he is just as bad as the bored unless theres a cup wow this season i think they should all get the sack why are they in a job that they clearly cant do? ITS NOT HARD TO BUY PLAYERS WENGER YOU JUST HAVE TO OFFER THE CLUB MONEY ASK SAMBA!!

Newcastle are weaker than they were last year (their target this year is to avoid relegation cos of all the player sales). Still we come out with a draw & AW says it was a solid performance. Defense was ok, but still Im not sure coz it was a weak Newcastle attack. The next few weeks should be interesting and a real test. We will have a better picture & be able to rate our defense after the Man U game.

spend some money to buy barton, or, at least, a player similar to him.
I would love to see the opponent player getting a red card by touching our player cheek.

For me, the highest point of yesterdays match was to see TV make Ba and and the other strikers of NCFC look amateurs.
Kos had a very good game too…
Liverpool looked very compact and strong despite the 1-1 draw so next week with Gervinho suspended we will have even more problems creating scoring opportunities
Downing will give Gibbs a run for his money, and I think he will have a nightmare copping with those runs Dirk Kuit and Suarez will join the party at the left side of our defense because they will be avoiding Sagna and know the Gibbs is lightweight and not tactically strong
.. also if there is no improvement in the creative midfield point of view, RVP will voice his concern by January, and that’s when Arsenal will be in real troubles… I predict that heads my roll come January.
I trust Arsenal will see the urgency in doing just that… We need Hazard type more than Mata type player bcaus in the Wings we have what it takes for a good time Gervinho Ryo and Walcot to set the tune, as Arshavin lacks somethin (I dont know what).
By the way I am very impressed with what I have seen from Frimpong, he will do us the J. Wisher trick this season
UP THE GUNNERS

Did anybody expected a better outcome to that game? Well Arsenal is reputed for a good start to a new season. Except better signings are made, the signs are ominous. Wenger NEVER lacks excuses to ANYTHING that happens in a game. I still love Arsenal but dislikes Wenger’s deceit.

That was a bad decision by d ref. to send Gervinho off. Its an eye opener to him, his performance at d attack was a bit shacky. He’ll definitely fit into d system with time.

Should have bought Fab and Nasri’s replacements earlier if you weren’t going to play those two against Newcastle… Especially with Wilshere out. Our midfield was terrible.
I don’t see why he doesn’t buy Vertonghen from Ajax (basically the same as Vermaelen but 2″ taller and can play as a central midfielder) or Alex from Chelsea. I think most people would have signed one of them weeks ago.
Gourcuff as Fabregas’ replacement because I’m not too sure on Jadson really…
And I’m skeptical about a Nasri replacement because we already have 3 good players who can play on the left wing. I’d rather see the money used on Benzema.

Also, why does he never play two strikers up top?
I’d play this for next game if i’d made tge signings I think he needs to:
Szczesny
Sagna – Vertonghen – Vermaelen – Gibbs
Song
Gervinho – Ramsey – Gourcuff
Van Persie – Benzema
Not sure how I’d fit in Wilshere once he’s fit again though.

We need a more solid left back. Gibbs was all over the place. Sagna was a workhorse once again. Midfield lacked creativity although Gervinho was promising. I believe RVP should not be playing as CF and Wenger should revert back to a 4-3-3 formation against Udinese and Liverpool.

Solid performance my foot. If u cant win your first game against new castle, then club, like west brom, fulham, aston villa e.t.c will give us tough times. Then the big clubs like Man.u,chelsea,liverpool,spurs,man.city will wreck arsenal. We are suppose to win lower clubs like that and get a maximum point. To me, that performance is not good enough, there is room for improvement. Godwin Victor Ekoh. Edo State, Nigeria.

those are wengers’ point about the game and here are mine….Our center backs were solid.kocielny did a good job of being composed and vermaelen as usual was impressive.Sagna did good.Gibbs did fairly well but still we need a decent LB to put gi bbs on his toes…..The main point of the match is the midfield.I thinl i agree with the user who said our midfield now is poorer than our defence. If ramsey is to replace cesc then he better gives us more than what he gave in this game.Song was solid too as he didn’t let them bully us out there.Rosicky was just running around.vanpersie looked short of confidence.we need quality in that midfield to help rvp or we will rmber this season for bad memories…i’m sorry the post is long but i just got to to give out my opinion..

i have been watching arsenal side from the first day wenger took charge until now, i am a die hearted fan. yesterday was one of the worse attacking performance i have ever seen. the defence only looks good because no quality player is on new castle side to attack with purpose. arsenal need one more clinical forward like, tevez, two more quality midfielder like hazard, and gorcouf, and two solid defender, cahil and alex…thats a champion ship side…i am stressed….i haven’t smiled in six years….

OH YES MR.ASH.LE WENGER – the performance was as solid as yr fckng thick skull..now-a-days if we draw against a team like Newcastle ( who wpould probably fight for relegation end of the season )away – he & his bunch of lickers are happy & satisfied…
we should distance from these so-called buffons who r a bunch of digrace to a club like Arsenal..
I really wonder how still people repose faith in that constipated nut-case called AW

Dear Arsenal Fans,
Arsene Wenger is leading the team into destruction mode. Whether you want it or not, time will tell. Even the profit he and the Board are more interested in, can only be sustained by sustaining the brand value.
Cups drought for 6 yer, no longer a destination for star players, limited holding ability on star players, negative publicity, inability to listen to positive criticisms, lack of openeness on the part of the management etc are a sign of collapsing club.
