Wenger keen on ‘Magic’ Honda!
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger couldn’t hide his admiration for the Japanese star Keisuke Honda, prompting rumours that he may make a bid for the man who scored three goals for his country in just four World Cup matches.
“This Japansese team is based on a solid and collective defence in which everybody knows exactly what to do,” Wenger said.
“When they get the ball they can give it to Honda – and the magic starts.
“When they get that genius Honda playing up front, he has shown what a top class player he is. For me he’s the best performer of the competition so far.”
Honda cost CSKA Moscow just £5m when they signed him last year, and he is worth at least twice that now.
Japan only went out on penalties to Paraguay, and Honda felt the disappointment keenly.
“I wanted to play more with this team. Honestly, instead of achievement I feel more disappointment. The disappointment is stronger,” he told reporters.
Honda usually plays in midfield for CSKA, but has excelled since he was put in attack by Japan, and he says his success is simply due to having his team behind him.
“It was very easy to do. The players behind were defending so well and supporting me. I could concentrate up front without any concern. I could score because of that.”
“I feel that I will keep growing. I want to be hungry and greedy and to practice every part of my game. I want to develop every aspect.”
Honda is certainly a very versatile type of player which has only impressed Wenger even more. The Frenchman tracked Andrei Arshavin after his performances at the Euro2008 tournament. Will he do the same with Honda?

Honda is a good player but I don’t see him playing anywhere in the Arsenal attacking midfield with the likes of Arshavin, Rosicky & Nasri. We’re also booked out on forwards, unless Bendtner and Eduardo leave soon, then I see him getting a chance.
please he’s the best if you need him don’t think twice buy buy buy ……………………………
bendtner must go he’s useless no control. weak, no speed i wonder why wenger saw in him and if he’s good why is there no teams running for his signature?
Honda is good!!!
Being an Asian, I have been following Japan in the WC. Honda did indeed caught my eyes.
Gimme a break. You must be joking. Nothing against this Honda guy but only Wenger could watch the same Cup we’ve all been watching and come up with this guy as the “mvp” so far. I think its just because AW might actually be able to afford this guy compared to the rest.
Honda has been one of the stars of the tournament so far.
Beautiful strike of the ball and great runs… whether he is the overall MVP is another thing but there’s no denying he should at least be in the top 20 for consideration (maybe even 10).
Yeah! That’s what I have been saying – Keisuke Honda to Arsenal!!!! Come on!! Get rid of Diaby, Denilson, Bendtner, Eboue, Rosicky and bring him in!! He looks more than suitable for Arsenal’s playing style!
Not forgetting his marketing value!
“When they get that genius Honda playing up front”?! I don’t know who made up this line, but Wenger sure as hell didn’t say it lol! He would never call a player a “genius”. Just doesn’t sound right, and more importantly, it sounds english

Spot on Matt – all world cup players will be linked to Arsenal in the coming months as they try to get offers in from other clubs based on a few match games.
we nid him in our attack to continue our 4.3.3 formation moreover he can play in midfield too.wenger pls head on
lets hope
@Matt, it’s a quotation my friend.
Honda did come across like the Fabregas type creative player, clever to spot passes, long, short whatever and also making the right decisions in and around the box, explains why he thinks Honda is clever.
Have to agree It is very unlikely that Wenger would heap those kind of praises on any player and the word `genius` makes it all the more doubtful. Knowing how he operates he would water down his comments if he`s interested in the player or all the cats in the neighbourhood will be on his doorstep.
Wenger is working for Eurosport at the World Cup. The quotes come from an interview with that (massive) company.

It could be that he has no interest in buying Honda, and is just “bigging him up” for the viewers?
Aw please buy honda and sell bentner
