Wenger lines up Fabregas replacement – Sami Nasri!

Posted on June 26, 2011 by admin

It is being reported this morning in the respected English paper The Guardian that Arsene Wenger will only allow Cesc Fabregas to move to Barcelona if Sami Nasri re-signs his extension this week.

Wenger is willing to let Nasri replace Fabregas as the highest paid player at the Emirates and allow him greater freedom on the pitch in exchange for his loyalty, but conversely if Nasri refuses to sign then Wenger will fight tooth and nail to keep Fabregas at the club.

They reckon that Wenger is considering changing the Arsenal formation back to 4-4-2, which means it won’t be so easy to accomodate Fabregas in that line-up. This is why Wenger would prefer Nasri to be the one that stays while using the money from Fabregas’ sale to reinforce the other areas of the team.

They also say that other than Gervinho and Ricky Alvarez, Wenger’s main target is Everton’s Phil Jagielka who will bring the “maturity and experience” that is so desperately needed in Arsenal’s back line.

HOPE this is true cos we are already 10 men on the pitch when fabregas starts so if unfortunately our player is sent off then we play 9 against 11.he should go 4 nasri to stay

if this is true then absolutely great news but i wonder how the formation could be changed to 4 4 2 it is more of a 4 3 3 with song,dm,samir rcam, jack lcam and the three forwards gervinho lf walcott rf and vanpersie cf and adding jagielka is a great news at the moment he is the best 4 what we need he is experiened english and has leadership qualities and even if clichy goes we would be able to replace him the squad wil be perfect then but we also need a mentor for schezny who can stil keep like given

Fabregas can no longer be described as a priceless asset of Arsenal.Just take a cursory look at the his contribution to team work for the past two years. He is most of the time nursing injury. Sometimes he has to play through pain. Pschologically, he is a Barcelonian. For how long can Wenger stick to his decision of denying the youngster the opportunity to player for a team of heart? Just let Cesc leave. We all love him, but at least he has paid his dues. All the players know he wants to leave. Can such a player lead a squad that wants to win a trophy? Wenger, drop your economicas jacket and wear a spectacle of psychology and let the inwardly agrieved young chap leave, whether Nasri stays or not.

If Cesc leaves he shouldn’t go less than atleast 40m,but one thing is for sure he would regret that for the rest of his life by getting frustrated at sitting on the Barca bench for the next 2 years.

Liked the post. It certainly makes sense. IMO I think we have seen the best of Fabregas, both physically AND mentally. He should now go home and whether or not he warms the Barcelona bench for a while, he will be happy. Like many an ex-Arsenal player he may well regret leaving. Most of them do.
The only people to come out of this whole affair with a total lack of honour are those who work for FC Barcelona.

  12. Alex says:

Apparently Barca are planning a bid in excess of GBP 33m, if Arsenal can get Nasri to sign an extended contract (hopefully for 5 years!!) that would be great for the club, for barca, and for Fabregas. a 4-4-2 with Nasri playing in the centre would be great because he would speed up play with his quick dribbling, and therefore Arsenal would be able to revert to their attack-minded counter-attacking football of old :)

I would prefer if Fabregas stayed and Nasri left. I think Fab has a love for Arsenal while Nasri is a journeyman. Fab’s injury will not last for ever. If he leaves we have to start from scratch with regards to formation. Arsenal fans should not be carried away by all the reports. Fabregas is a very sensible young man who is torn between loyalty and first love. if he stays he will give his best. And the truth be told Nasri is good but he cannot influence the game like Fabregas does.

Remember d home game against wba, d game we lost, all the players wer resigned to defeat except nasri, nasri was d only one tat play his heart out. You’d all say nasri got just a good half season, just like chamakh, but do you people realise tat rvp n fab wer injured in d first half of d season, n chamakh n nasri wer playing, it simply means tat nasri n chamakh are both more than capable of covering 4 fab n rvp, n nasri is more than gud enough to replace fab.

If Wenger reverts back to 4-4-2 then wnt it be a possibility that Arshavin can partner RVP at the top ? I thought that is the position where Archavin likes to play in. The Support striker… Which means we can get the best out of him too…

losing fab would leave a big scar but losing nasri is more a bitter pain for the squad. really.. there is no need to keep someone that has more love for another team. well that just me. arsenal should really fight hard for nasri not fab. sure fab is fabulous but nasri is the god. arsenal should fight hard to keep nasri coz sure he would be a grat asset for the squad. win more trophies attact more attention. that’s all is wat i hv to say. barca may won back fab y not arsenal try too win back gerald pique. just a suggestion anyway. may arsenal be invincible again. god bless arsenal

    Excellent plan.
Nasri’s potential is wasted out wide, it’s clear that he prefers playing through the middle and he is a much greater threat in that position.
If fabs leaves i think Nasri will have much more freedom to play where he likes, and become a much better player.
Fabregas’ heart isn’t at Arsenal any more, we should allow him to leave, as letting him stay may only hinder his performance for the club. Yet we can’t afford to lose both Samir and Fabregas..

    Very good thinking Wenger (Y)

It is time to let Fab go.I am pleased that all the reactions have been soft on him.He has paid his dues and has done so much for us.We have been unfair to him by not matching his sacrifice with ambitions. His mates have won everything and all has to show are broken dreams from a manager who refuses to move with the times while he fantasizes with with his still birth role as Arsenals coach.Everybody is buying and we are as usual stuck with players linked and getting scared off by fees.End game,we buy cheap and old.The circle continues

  35. Ben says:

dont need to change formation, just a rearrangement of positioning. right now we barely have any players playing in the right positions. Fabregas is naturally a deep lying midfielder, along with Wilshere and Song. Nasri should be put into the playmaking role where he is most effective, with Ramsey as back up. What I would really like to see Wenger do is to buy some natural wingers ie. not Walcott or Arshavin, to support RvP at the front. That, a strong CB and a replacement for Clichy will be enough to give us the Premiership.

I like this scenario. I don’t mind letting Cesc go IF we keep hold of Nasri, and having Alvarez and Gervinho do Nasri’s job at the wings, it should come out as a great formation having Nasri in his favourite position where he does some damage everytime he gets to play as a 10.

If fabregas left we will need a 30 milion replacement..and all this talk about fab wanting to go 2 barca coz its his hometown is CRAP!!! wat waz he thinkin when signing a 5yr contract…lets face facts the reason fab wants 2 leav arsenal is becoz he thinks we cant win trophies…bring in a player in the mould of benzema or eto.,.. he wil thnk twice

Pls let him go and let’s have peace!what I really believe we should do is to have like 2 new very dangerous strikers…like falcao and eto o for once!let’s pay for these talents and achieve somefing!I personally believe it’s because we don’t bite well in front eventhough we always have d highest number of scoring chances in every match!….other teams know we they can always run at us with confidence since our backliners get to move towards opponents goalpost to assist attackers in their assignments.(Note-our defenders scores more than other defenders from other clubs)…..
I remember opponents never venture to rush at us when we had henry, berkamp, pires, lumberg who were very efficient at scoring!
But we still need to 2 additional backliners please!…I hope we get jageika, cahill and samba!

Fabregas and Nasri are two good but very different kinds of player. Fabregas can but, won’t dribble much; reads the game like no other; sees all sides of the pitch at all times; knows when to hurry the game and when to slow it down and best of all, picking up a striker in a good position right from the center of the pitch.
Nasri is a good dribbler, fears no one when he has the ball, but doesn’t pass it around that well. He kinda tends to overstay or over run with it till the advantage is lost.
Nasri is a rover and daring while Fabregas is the grown up who keeps everything together and makes sure the kids don’t wonder off.
Rosicky and Fabregas have more in common.
