Wenger looks to France as Arsenal spending spree continues
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger promised the fans a “busy summer” and it looked like being anything of the sort until now.
But Wenger has now brought in Gervinho, Carl Jenkinson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joel Campbell, and with the myriad departures (no names mentioned!) it certainly HAS been a busy summer. but according to the Arsenal rumours around it looks like it is far from over.
FranceFootball today reckons that Arsenal are still interested in the Sochaux midfielder Marvin Martin and are going to return with a second bid to fortify the weakened Arsenal midfield. They also say that the Gunners have made a bid for the Marseille striker Andre Ayew, who has a 13m euro buy-out clause in his contract, but Wenger will have to pay the full amount to get their man.
To make things worse, Marseille are currently trying to give Ayew, who was Marseille’s Player-of-the-Season last year, a new improved contract with a bigger buy-out clause to head of any further interest from Arsenal.
The 21 year-old has already amassed 29 caps for Ghana and is certainly set to be worth a lot more than 13m if he continues progressing, and he underlined that fact with a hat-trick against Lille last week, despite Marseille losing the match 5-4.
Marvin Martin may be easier to get as he has already stated that he is keen on a move to the Premier League, but Sochaux are loathe to let him go and have rejected Arsenal’s first bid. FF say that they expect the Gunners to return with a second bid shortly.
If Wenger managed to buy both of these then Arsenal really would have a formidable squad to challenge for the title this season….

Wenger is trying to fortify every position OTHER than a CB. what’s his problem? But yes any additions to the squad are welcome. I suppose we will see today how Arsenal’s current defence handles the job…

Until i see them wearing arsenal jersey and play for arsenal. But mean while our greatest problem with the squad is not the inability to hold ball or score. But in the inability to withstand presure and conceed goals. We are good up front as we can attack and score, but the defend is bad. And now we have too many midfielders like Rosicky,Jack,Ramsey,Song,Alex,Diaby,Ashavin,Miyachi, even Walcot. We need a strong/Solid defender that can deal with dead balls and set pieces. The league is on now. Wenger should not wait till January, or else we migth be down the table. Gunners 4 ever. Godwin Victor Ekoh. Edo State Nigeria.

this is trash.what we need are 2quality cbs,2quality midfielder*one center,one defensive*.one selfish and deadly striker,then we are good to go *i guess.
But with wenger u can expect crap trust me if we win without conceeding against NUFC,wenger will claim the team strong enough to win the league which is so wrong even the blind man beside my house knows that.

i believe Wenger’s next 3 signings will NOT include a Centre Back here is why (i have only included players that have played or are in the first team picture) Obviously i have assumed that Almunia, Eboue, Fabregas, Nasri and Bendtner are all gone.
CB (5) – Vermaelen, Koscielny, Djourou, Squillaci, Miquel
GK (3) – Szcesney, Fabianski, Mannone
RB (2) – Sagna, Jenkinson
LB (2) – Gibbs, Traore
DM (2) – Song Frimpong
OM (5) – Wilshire, Ramsey, Rosicky, Diaby
W (3) – Walcott, Chamberlain, Gervinho, Arshavin, Miyaichi
S (3) – Van Persie, Chamakh, Vela, Campbell
For me it is offensive midfield and defensive midfield that is Wengers priority. I think both full backs are next on his priority. That is 4 positions he will focus on before he contemplates CB and if Campbell does not get a permit and Vela leaves on loan i think Striker will be more important than CB.
This is not how i think, just what i believe he is thinking. Either way it is a very weak squad

Are you having a laugh…..Ive never heard of either of these players, do you think they are going to be stronger than signings like Aguero Schneider Torres etc. Would you have swaped Cesc and Nasri for them.

Tell me the date when Arséne Wenger has bought someone – and now I don’t think of young, talented players – from Spain or Italy. He always signed French players or at least players from Ligue 1 since he had signed. So I think we won’t see Mata and Jadson at the club.
I think we will try to get Martin, Ayew and Hazard but if we fail to land them, nobody will arrive.

I would imagine that Wenger is trying to find a centre back who has the pace to play with our high defensive line. Most of the players touted do not have this capability. I would have thought that a better swap for Nasri would have been DeJong who really is a “beast” in the middle of park. I do though think that the venemous nature of the criticisms of Wenger will definitely send him to PSG at the end of the season which I personally think will be a disaster for the club. The next manager will not be able to pay wages compared to the Mancs or Chelsea or possibly Liverpool and will also have to handle a large player exodus.

its a joke! mata is the man for the left wing 25 mill same price were selling nasri for, im happy with jadson for 10 mill, but for god sake wenger look at the back 4?? there a mess let squid go and get cahill and guess what we’d only spend 50 mill on the 3 of them and we’ll be better than last season BARGAIN considering that 50 mill is from the sales of to crying babys. Look i feel it needs to be said this doom and gloom has been hyped up way outta proportion. it wasnt fab that scored against man u it was ramsay. and that “horrible defence” managed to hold barca to one and man u to 0. look i wont lie and say i wouldnt love a strengthened defense but we wont be bottom half without it. dont lose the faith.

All these talks of players in other positions coming in, I bet they are all ways of leading people off the trail from Wenger looking for a centreback. I hope he buys Vertonghen. Basically the exact same as Vermaelen, they are even best mates and already have a great partnership formed at Ajax. The only difference is Vertonghen is like 1 year younger

When FIFA’s fair play thing comes into play and stops teams from spending more than they earn, Wenger’s tactics will get us to the top again. In two years we’ll be out of debt and making profits. We’re already the 3rd richest club in the world and making £3.2million per game…
We may have to suffer for a little while before this but I really think times will be brighter in the future.
I still think if Fabregas leaves Wenger should bring in Johan Gourcouff and Ryo Miyaichi would be Nasri’s replacement along with Gervinho who can play left side.
Gourcuff and Vertonghen are the only players I want in, the rest of the money can be used on youth.

Some people’s player suggestions on here are just plain stupid. Most people seem to just hear a vague rumour and get amazed by the thin possibility like rabbits in headlamps… Even when we do have the money, transfers like Hazard, Mata and Benzema are unlikely… It’s not as easy to sign real players as it is to sign them in Fifa or Football manager you know.

What is worrying me is that Arsene is playing with a 4-5-1 formation rather than the more successful 4-4-2 he used to adopt in the past. Van Persie is not the classical box striker and I am beginning to notice that we are starting to find it difficult to score goals. Just as much as we need a CB, I think we need a proven goalscorer … ‘a fox in the box’ as they used to say. Neither Van Persie nor Chamakh nor Gervinho fit that category.
